Harbour Maintenance

Harbour Maintenance inspected the furnace and claimed that there were no cracks in the heat exchanger.  Moreover, they indicated in writing that the "furnace checks out and should last another 10 years".  I just had another provider inspect the furnace and perform annual maintenance prior to starting the heating "season".  They showed me that there are multiple cracks in the heat exchanger and that the recepticle is broken.  Given that the furnace had not been turned on between the initial check and now, these cracks were clearly there at the time of the initial check by Harbour Maintenance.  I called Harbour Maintenance and asked them to pay for the labor to have the part replaced since the part is still covered under warranty.  They flatly refused and stated that the crack could have happened at any time after they had inspected it (even though the furnace had not been turned on).  Given the poor state of the heat exchanger, i.e. cracks, rust, broken recepticle, it is very clear that this damage occurred as a result of use over a period of time and therefore was already present when they inspected the furnace and claimed there were no cracks and should last another 10 years.

He is just a nice guy, a nice guy about the whole thing. He was well worth it. He did everything in a timely fashion. If there were any issues whatsoever he resolved them quickly. It is just a great business.
