"We did electrical work in two bathrooms for the homeowners. We worked with the homeowners and a remodel company. I had the understanding that the homeowners or remodel company would supply the special outlets for the cabinet drawers and that these outlets would work with the cabinets ordered. Our quote clearly stated that these would not be supplied by us. They are a special type of outlet that we do not supply because they would be specific to the cabinet type. The homeowner stated that she didn't read the fine print on the quote and did not notice that. The cabinets that they ordered from the remodel company did not have the clearance behind the drawer for this type of outlet and we could not do the work she desired. If the cabinets did not allow for an electrical cord to hang behind them and be movable, with use, the drawer would pinch the wire and eventually become a fire hazard. I am assuming that the homeowners would not want their home to be a fire hazard. We advised the homeowner that we could not come up with a way to do it safely and according to code. We advised the homeowner that we would not bill the final $239 for the work that we could not do. During the job, we went above and beyond for the homeowner and changed switch covers at no charge when she changed her mind on the color. There is no work that needs to be re-done. Our work is finished according to the scope of the estimate, it is up to code, and they do not need to hire another electrician to complete the work that we quoted. Mr. [Member Name Removed]'s comments are unfortunate because our work is complete and their new bathrooms look great! David Burtner"

Estimate was provided in a timely manner. The company worked well with us to time the installation with the pouring of a concrete patio. Work performed as expected. Only issue was with finishing work. There was not any finishing work done - holes left in walls and outside brick. The fact that this was not going to be done was not well explained. Could have focused more on details - i.e. getting things square.
We had service completed to install electrical from our main panel in the garage to our outside deck for a hot tub. When the installation was completed I went out to look at the work and saw that a hole had been drilled into our wood deck and into the hot tub base for the wiring. At that time I I asked the technician if that would be a problem when we moved it (only about a foot in each direction against the deck railing.) He replied, and quot;Yes! … I guess I should've asked you that before we drilled the hole!and quot; He then said that after we moved it to call and he could come back out to hook it up.
When I called to schedule a time for him to come back out the receptionist proceeded to argue with me. When my husband called to speak with the owner, who completed our estimate, he was also argumentative and said it was our fault and, and quot;Do you realize this is going to cost me $300 to send someone back out?and quot;
When the technician came out to hook it up the owner repeatedly called him while he was trying to complete the work. At one point the technician said, and quot;My boss wants me to drop you and just walk off the job!and quot; He was visibly frustrated and even offered to come back and do the work on his own time, but was able to complete the job in about 30 minutes.
I have to mention that we are new homeowners, and I was also not present during the estimate so I assumed when they came out to do the job I wouldn't need to supervise every step. At no point in time were we told that the hot tub had to be in the exact spot it would stay, and we didn't think one foot in each direction would make a difference. To top it off, the electrical layout of the wiring was not done the way the owner stated it would be at the time of the estimate (he said they would go thru the basement ceiling, but instead did it thru my garden outside the home pulling up several of my tulips.)
Now that it is all said and done we LOVE our hot tub, but we would never use nor recommend Burtner Electric to anyone. There was a lot of stress caused by this event, and after paying $1,000+ to a local, family owned business we were very disappointed with the level of customer service!
"We were contacted to give the customer an estimate to hook up the electrical wiring for a new hot tub. The customer contacted us to do the work as per the quote. Our technician went to the door for our scheduled appointment and the female homeowner took him to the back of the house and showed him the hot tub and she went inside. This is a standard hot tub hook up and since hot tubs are extremely heavy and not easy to move, they are placed in the install location by the company who delivers it and we hook them up. In our 29 years of operation, we have never run across an instance where the hot tub was delivered to a location other than where the homeowner wanted it. We had no reason to expect the hot tub would be moved. Electrical work requires that wires be run, holes be drilled and drywall sometimes has to be cut, etc. as part of the process. There is no way to do this type of work to the National Electrical Code standards unless this is done and since this is the case, any changes after the work is complete will leave a mark. The only way to do the work without drilling a hole for the wiring is to leave exposed wires hanging and that is not to code, nor would the homeowner be happy with exposed wires hanging. Per the homeowner's complaint, she asked us about moving it only after we had hooked up the wiring. She did mention to the technician that they were thinking about moving it and asked if that would be a problem, but this was after the work was done. We did not hear from the homeowners until a couple of days later. At that time, a gentleman called us upset that we had wired it up in that location. He complained that we wired it in the wrong spot and that he didn't like the location that it was in. Again, we did not place the hot tub in that location, we simply wired it up. He also stated that he didn't like the location of the disconnect box. When Mr. Burtner stated that they did not discuss the disconnect box being in a specific location, the gentleman stated that he had several quotes and that he did not remember what he told to which company. Mr. Burtner advised that when they were ready to move the hot tub, they could call us to schedule for it to be disconnected, the homeowner could have people there to move it and we would stay around to hook it up. The homeowners were advised at that time that we would not charge them for another service call to do this because we wanted to do this for the purpose of customer satisfaction. The homeowners called us to have it disconnected and hooked up. We went out to do that work at no charge and the homeowners did not have anyone there to move the hot tub to the new location as agreed on. We were able to hook it up in the new location and stretch the cord temporarily until the homeowner moved the hot tub. When we left the job the second time, we had no reason to believe that the homeowners were unhappy. Yes, a hole had to me made in the deck and this hole will be covered by the hot tub when they move it to the new location. The disconnect is on the side of the home where all of the other utility boxes are and is standard for this type of electrical project.. We did the estimate with the male homeowner and he was not present when we did the work, thus, as mentioned above, he did not recall what he told which company. Burtner Electric, Inc. did the work according to code and according to the location of the hot tub when we went to our scheduled appointment. After the homeowners changed their mind about the location of the hot tub, we made the changes at no additional cost to them and feel that their complaint is invalid."
