I regularly get maintenance. My last stylist was Jess from headcase salon. I've never had someone I always felt would leave me feeling wonderful like she did. She left with her pregnancy and I thought she was coming back. I had a phone call and didn't understand why she listed the number, not saved, but she's gone. I'm still in mourning (if anyone knows jess, or where she is now. Please let her know I'm looking). So new style places ahoy. I asked someone who came into my shop with very impressive hair who did her hair and she pointed me to jaina. It was my first visit and now moving onto my second today (new to angies list and checking out reviews). My first visit noted the front desk unmanned. Eventually maned by someone continuing a conversation behind her. The entire time. Asked questions and didn't listen to my responses and continued the conversation. Seemed to be another stylist. I wanted to see if I could get a lip/brow wax that day, but she didn't pay attention to that question. They stylist showed up and snatched me from that experience into a lovely, courteous. and well done color. Jaina seemed quite good at color (chocolate, good grey coverage). More interesting at highlights. Good at the hairstyle I chose (the grown out cut from Jess), chunky layers but straight with less of the small variation needed for good movement (I'm not a stylist). I still miss Jess and her amazing cuts with good movement (if anyone has any information as to that stylist, please, please, please contact me), but will try out Jaina again today. I did miss my second appointment. I scheduled it as they did ask for this, and related that I'll have to check since my work schedule is INCREDIBLY VARIED shift work. I didn't call to reset it and missed my appointment (sorry guys!). I didn't get a reminder call, which I really really appreciated from my old salon (I know I shouldn't need, but it helps my busy life). On the phone I made my 2nd appointment. I asked about waxing services and they said they did those. I asked about an appointment before or after and never got that answer for this, they just said the date of my hair cut, glad to see me then, and ended the call. I guess they don't make appointments for these? O.o Not the most responsive front desk staff. My 3rd appointment. I got a lovely color which is a nice warm brown, would be happy to continue working on the color if that's all it was. The cut is a bit awkward again. Takes a lot of work to make it doable, but is doable, interesting, and quite a bit better than most places I've been! Much better movement. Lengths from one side to the next are awkward. The back seems unfinished, and will need more input at a next visit. Would continue with the stylist. The waxing is another story and was done by the assistant. The lip wax, 3 attempts later (without my glasses) noted that what I'm feeling was dry skin. It was in fact several hairs left in the corner of my 30 year old mouth. I had to shave when I got home so I didn't have to show up with my friends with whiskers at the corners of my mouth. : / This was really disappointing. The worst though was the eyebrows. She waxed the bottoms. I have very bushy top eyebrows. She plucked a bit then waxed the tops. The wax was ok (only did the inner 1/3rd), and not the outer 1/3 where I have the most trouble and I hate to pluck when I got home. But.. they are uneven. One is so thin I'm worried correcting it would require too much plucking and end up penciling in my left brow arch. Right now I have a triangle shaped spike in my left center eyebrow where it just drops off, not as the arch but a 1cm spike, I really wish I could post a photo. It's not god awful, but makes me look a bit unusual in a bad way. I've had many many satisfying waxes (actually can't remember one I hated beyond this) and after the first 5 min of haircut shock I usually love my new maintained do. Maybe I'll skip this salon and hit a different salon. But not being able to do everything I need for maintenance at the same salon, is less than exciting. But it's a hard trade from salon to salon. I'll check on here for a new salon I guess. :(
