This was a major project! Part of our roof was sagging, the overhand of our front porch was sagging, and our back porch was sagging. I had several contractors come to the house to give us estimates. Most just walked around the house quickly, then said we needed some siding replaced and left us with a large quote. When JD came, he spent about an hour looking at our house thoroughly. We were surprised by what he told us (compared to the other), but because of the level of detail and time he spent, I had no doubts about his estimate. This contractor was recommended to us by Larry Harklerod of Five Star Painting, and I was so pleased with the work of Bentley Construction. Because of the age of our house (1905), there was alot of custom work that had to be done. The new corbels that were made matched the old ones perfectly. JD's quote was very detailed, and he kept us informed all the way through the process. There were two times as they were working that they came across problems that would add to the original cost. JD explained those to us and always got permission from us and gave us new paperwork for those things. After all this work, we think our old house will be around another 100 years!

In August 2007, Bentley Construction built what we thought was a beautiful sunroom with a deck above it, adjacent to the dining area of our home. Almost immediately, however, we discovered that the room leaked when there was a hard rain. We contacted the company and were told that they would be back to check it out. They did not return right away and as we ate dinner in our dining room one very rainy Saturday evening, we began to hear the distinct sound of water dripping. On inspection, water was coming in heavily through the combination light/fan ceiling fixture in the sunroom, pooling in the glass cover and then running over the edge and dripping onto the floor. There was also water coming in from somewhere at one particular upper corner of the room and running down a window casing. We contacted J.D. Hobbs on his cell phone right then and told him this was not acceptable. The next week, workers finally returned to try to determine from where the leak or leaks were coming.
A spot where they believed the water was entering and running down inside the roof/ceiling was repaired. We were told that they were "pretty sure" this would take care of both leaks, but if it did not, we should let them know. With the next hard rain, we found that although the leak coming through the ceiling fixture appeared to be repaired, the leak at the window casing was not.
So for at least the last three years, we have made numerous calls, and sent written notes and emails, pleading with J.D. Hobbs to please return to fix this project that was not finished in an acceptable manner. Each time we had contact with him, we were promised that they would definitely return and "make good" on the work Bentley Construction had done. All of this was to no avail.
We came to realize that Bentley Construction does not stand behind its work and we would not recommend them to anyone. We are now working with another company to repair and complete this project. Because there had been extensive water damage over these almost four years, we are now involved in and paying for re-construction rather than what might have been more simple repairs if this had been taken care of when the sunroom was originally built .
