Response from Willis Fence Co
"I am very sorry that you were disappointed in the response from the person who answered your telephone inquiry. I would be happy to listen about how we can improve in this area. Please contact me at 812-853-5712. We do not participate in the Angie's List contractor programs (i.e. advertising, messaging, etc.) so please contact me directly. It took about three months once we signed the contract for the provider to complete the project. Although I was told there was a waiting list, the actual start date was more than a month after the time they projected they would start. The overall quality of the work was good and they even customized a gate at the side of the house. However, the wait time seemed very unreasonable.

they came and walked the yard with me and measured. then I was given a written quote and decided that even though they were slightly more money than the other companies I had spoken with to go with them, they were the only company willing to put the gates in the way I wanted them done. They came on a Thursday and set all the posts and explained because the ground was so wet that they would not complete the fence until Monday so the concrete had time to set. They even put a temp fence up for my dogs. I left for work on Monday morning and came back to the fence completed and the area cleaned.

Fence has a great appearance. Installers worked diligently and were on time. Total installation took 2 days. Very muddy day and house is new construction with a sod lawn laid sometime last summer. It would have been better had the workmen cleaned up the many large mud deposits around where the posts were set as we've had to work long and hard at removing the mud from the buried sod that was just turning green.

Couldn't be more pleased. The two men who put up the privacy fence were courteous, informative, and efficient. When they had completed the fence I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of it. I actually looked for something to be critical of, but it was impossible to find anything at all in which to find fault. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

I called for an estimate for a wooden picket 4ft fence. They came within days and gave me the estimate and probable start date. Price was very reasonable. Estimated date to begin the project was accurate. Builders did a great job and cleaned up the construction mess. Gates are sturdy. They did a great job integrating the gates into the arch design. Very satisfied!

I contacted Willis Fence and after thoroughly listening to what I wanted, they took care of everything from contacting the utilities to obtaining the permit. Everyone was very respectful from the salesman to the installers. I knew the layout I wanted would be challenging, so it was comforting when the salesman really listened to me and provided solutions that would work. The installers did a wonderful job and I will definately use them again if I need another fence.

Fully professional, reasonably priced, on time, high quality construction. I would give them a strong recommendation, but as with any service provider be clear on exactly what you want and go over how you expect the job to look when finished.

Since Willis fence never sent me an estimate, they will not get my business. They will not be considered in future work either.

In the spring of 2007, I had Willis fence Co. install a 115 x 6 foot privacy fence with three corners and a gate. It cost $2,550.00. Recently I had several companies submit estimates to extend the fence another 28 feet, but only 4 feet in height. The estimates I received were between 600 and 800 dollars, but these companies could not get the same kind of wood called copper-wood. They could use either treated pine or cedar, not the copper-wood like the 6 foot fence. I then called Mr. Willis to give me an estimate to match the copper-wood, since he did the first fence. He came and gave me an estimate of $1,027.52. Almost half the price of the elaborate 115 foot fence for a plain 28 foot x 4 foot, NOT MENTIONING THAT HE COULD NOT GET THE SAME WOOD. (After being told by me that I wanted exactly the same thing I purchased previously so it would match perfectly.) Wanting to stay with what I already had, and to insure a match, I hired Willis. When the workers arrived to start, they brought scallop topped fence boards, not the dog-eared style that was standing. After telling them that it was the wrong style of fence, they left and came back with the dog-eared style, but it was treated pine not copper-wood. When I told the workers it was the wrong kind of wood, they said copper-wood has not been available for over 4 or 5 years. When hearing that I said that I had the 6 foot fence put up less than 2 years ago. They said Mr. Willis knew they could not get that wood, did he not tell you that? After talking to Mr. Willis on the phone, the wife and I decided to go with the treated pine since that was the closest match available and there was a timing issue involved AND the workers and materials were already on site. I expressed the thought to Willis that the treated pine would be much cheaper than what we had originally ordered. When we got the bill, not one cent had been deducted. I called and made an appointment for Mr. Willis to come and discuss the problem, show him all the mistakes, which were numerous, and adjust the bill. He defended the workers for all the boards in the fence being of varying lengths and not being cut square at the bottom saying that that is the way all fence companies do it. One of the posts (out of four) is out of plumb. The posts are almost 1 inch smaller than the posts in the 6 foot fence, and in one section the fence is almost 6 inches off the ground. The width of each board was also supposed to be 6 inches like the first fence, but then again the workers said treated pine did not come in 6 inch widths. All of this being normal according to Willis. I would never consider hiring Willis Fence Co. again to do any work unless I have no concern about what it looks like. Perhaps a horse lot or an auto salvage yard, but not for my residence. Two Cub Scouts and a drunk could have done a better job. One last thing; the Willis website is still offering the wood they supposedly cannot get to the unsuspecting public, calling it Ozark Timber.
Response from Willis Fence Co
"We are proud of our reputation from tens of thousands of satisfied customers since 1972. There are many inaccuracies is this customer's description of events, conversations, and materials used during this project. I found this story so unbelievable about our company that recently I drove by the jobsite (05-18-2011) and took pictures of the fence. Upon my return I was handed a detailed file with written statements from our installer, office manager, and sales representative (all written at the time of installation). After researching this matter, I believe that every attempt was made to satisfy this customer."
