I hired this company to do drywall work, painting, trim work, and some other small jobs including adjusting doors to close properly, etc. The company's owner, D.J. Rice, came out and quoted the job, signed a contract, and agreed that we did not have to pay him anything up-front because we were to purchase the required materials (about $250 worth) and he stated that he had drywall mud and drywall left over from previous jobs that he was willing to use free-of-charge to us. D.J. and his associate, Ben, showed up to do the job as agreed. However, after working for a day, they stopped showing up regularly and provided a long list of excuses for not working on our home. The job eventually came to a screeching halt when they both stopped showing up altogether and left our home with gaping holes in the walls, unfinished (rough) drywall patches, poorly patched and painted walls, wall paint on the ceiling, and a complete mess in all areas of our home where they had been working. Eventually, after trying to reach D.J. for a week or so (to no avail), I told him that I would file complaints with the BBB, Angie's List, Craigslist (where we found him), and the Vanderburgh County Courts. This got his attention, and D.J. agreed to finish the job this weekend. Although he was supposed to work all day yesterday and today, D.J. and another young man, Jack, showed up for two hours and then disappeared after saying that they were going to get a bite to eat. A few hours later, I was out looking for Christmas lights and ended up at a store near D.J.'s apartment complex. I drove through the parking lot to see if his vehicle was there, and it just so happens that he was outside at that time. He approached my car immediately upon seeing me, and started making excuses for not coming back to work. When I questioned his excuses, he stated that he did not return because I had breached the contract. D.J. stated that he had purchased materials, but that I had not given him 1/2 up-front, which was in violation of the contract. The reality is that yesterday he told me that he needed a sheet of drywall and some finishing nails and when I said I would go out and get them, D.J. insisted on getting them because he said he could get a better price given his contractor status. It now appears that he insisted on getting them because he was looking for a way out of the contract. However, given that I have paid in excess of $250 for materials and D.J. has expended approximately $20 on materials, I have more than paid for 1/2 the cost of materials. To top this all off, D.J. had a group of his friends gang up on me, calling me names and insulting me, and then D.J. threatened to assault me. You do NOT want to do business with Precision Refinishing, LLC or D.J. (Dezmann Jose) Rice. By the way, if you look up his LLC on the Secretary of State website, his name is shown as Dezman Jose Pice, so I am not sure whether his last name is Rice or Pice at this point.
