Furnace / Forced Air Heating System Install or Replace
I had a furnace installed in 2016. In 2024 it was leaking into the basement and had rusted in pan due to not installed to drain properly. It was still under warranty but the manufacturer wouldn?t stand behind it - Elite wouldn?t either. I paid for furnace and have had issues since that with leaking into the basement, humidity and fumes, carbon monoxide alarm going off when really cold and have been ignored or told motor oil burning off, fan needed to be turned down, etc. My furnace has run constantly when hot (humidity horrible) - bills higher - heat pump went out during that time-9 years old - was replaced with an air conditioner without letting me know doing this. Upon consultation with another furnace company found that flue was not installed correctly- tape slapped over an approximate 2 inch gap- fumes coming out the back (could have killed me) - other vent left open to the attic sucking hot heat and humidity (only made for 20 degrees difference- not 110 degrees

This company sent someone to my home who lied to my face and attempted to scam me out of $15,000 while my wife was 9 months pregnant. I did not know it at the time, but the Elite technician tried out a common ruse on me. It’s the cracked heat exchanger scam, and it goes something like this: “your heat exchanger is cracked. This means carbon monoxide is leaking into your home, risking the health and safety of your family. Replacing it would be as expensive as replacing the whole system, so let’s have you buy a new system today. And if you act now, I can throw in…” My favorite line that really started to tip me off that I was being played for a fool was the part when the technician tried to show me the carbon monoxide levels on a meter he had. They were normal, but he was sure to tell me, “oh, you can’t see the part where the levels will be the highest and most dangerous because they are further up the line.” I just had to take his word for it. The visit was originally just to transfer over routine service from one house to the new one we had newly purchased. [*** Link removed ***] Several other companies have inspected the heat exchanger on the unit and informed us that we were lied to. No serious cracks, no leaking carbon monoxide, just a dishonest person trying to work a scam on a guy with a pregnant wife and five year old twins. First I was scared because I believed Elite when they told me that the air quality in my home might be dangerous. I now know not to trust them. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Can assure you I will never do business with this company again.

DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS! They do not understand the system that they installed (and we are still paying on). Haven’t heard from them since the last week of 2022 after our heat went out on 23AUG2022. Multiple errors on their part has led to permanent damage to our system. Here’s some examples of how inept they are: - Installed a 3 wire hard start motor with 2 wires. ‘Fixed’ it, still wrong, proud owner of a melted hard start motor. - Installed our thermostat incorrectly, a/c was running whenever our heat ran. - Found out on 23DEC2022, the coldest day of the year (by far), when our heat went completely out, that our auxiliary heat was never hooked up (great conversation with Allie, their admin. “Is your auxiliary heat on?” “What auxiliary heat?” “Your auxiliary heat?” “Allie, I have no idea what you are talking about!”). - Came the next week and tried to install a board from a different manufacturer (I know) and of course it didn’t work. That was the last time we heard from them. They were supposed to be getting back to us the next week to get our heat going and then get the manufacturer out to us to see what could be done but they’ve gone no contact. One of their techs, who I believe meant well, pointed out a ton of their errors but he didn’t even get everything fixed. Another reviewer commented on how terrible Allie is but she does have to listen to ticked off, disgusted customers all day! DO NOT USE THEM. BEWARE OF A COMPANY THAT SPENDS SOOOOO MUCH ON ADVERTISING! They simply don’t care and don’t stand behind their very expensive investment!

On Dec 15, a tech was here for a service call. I had a code 2.3 on my furnace and the Draft inducer motor was not spinning. We went to the basement and turned on the furnace. He noticed the code 2.3 and told me the motor needed replaced. The only thing he touched was holding down the panel switch. He did not use a multi meter for anything. He did not check the thermostat, the control board, the pressure switch. He checked NOTHING. I was there the entire time. I asked him about the pressure switch. He told me that is never the problem and the motor needed replaced. The tech told me that I’d be looking at around $1300 for parts and labor. He mentioned the part might not be in until Feb. and doubted financing would be available. Then he told me the best way to go is a new furnace. He told me I should be able to get financing for that, it would be $5000 at $83 a month and it could be installed very soon. I told him I would consider the things he told me. He left. I know this doesn’t matter, but I checked several places and got $200 as the average price of an in-stock draft inducer motor. Today is Dec. 31. A few days ago, I checked the furnace again. Everything worked including flame for about 2 minutes. The motor was turned off last after the flame went out. It worked like this several times and still is. It gave a Code 3.1. I checked voltage of the thermostat at the control board and it is correct. I checked several hoses for obstruction and cleaned out the drain pan. I lightly cleaned the flame sensor. I vacuumed out the exhaust line, but I don’t think my vacuum was suited to that job. None of this seemed to help. I removed the draft inducer motor and ran it on 115v for 7 minutes and it worked fine. This leads me to believe the motor itself is not the problem. I have re-installed it and am still having the same problem. One thing I realized is that when the furnace was working properly, there was always a metal “thud” when the furnace came on. That no longer happens. Perhaps there is a venting problem. I called Elite yesterday. The service manager told me the tech’s report included that he checked the draft inducer motor. Again, I was down there the whole time. I was rather angry about his lying. The service manager said she was the only manager there and that she could not help me if I was going to argue with her. I was upset, not arguing. Eventually, she said someone would contact me after the first of the year. I expect a refund on the service call. I also expect a different tech to come out for a free service call to see what is really wrong with my furnace. I would have to assume 1/2 of the good reviews for Elite are from people who didn't know they were getting screwed over. I can only hope Elite believes me and not their employee. Perhaps it is just the one dishonest employee and does not reflect Elite accurately. It does make me wonder if I really needed this furnace I bought from them 6 years ago as a replacement.

They ended up installing it and charging us the full price and never helped us with receiving the rebates. My wife had to spend a month tracking all that information down on her own. Also, they installed a different model than the one they said they were going to install, which frustrated me. I won't even let this company come out to service the system regularly for maintenance.

"Can you please advise if possible who your service technician was on this call? We do not condone pressure sales, we do, however offer replacement options if the unit seems to be in need. Leaking freon could be a number of things, and is not a normal occurrence. We are sorry if you were offended by that and would like to know more about your experience so we can correct any issues or problems. Thank you for your feedback."

Setting up the visit was very good and the tech arrived on time. It was all downhill from there. In reading several other reviews, my experience seems like the SOP for this company. The first furnace had a little bit of orange flame from time to time so I was told how bad that was and that the integrity of the combustion chamber was bad (showed some rust and light 'pitting.' Replacing that was basically as expensive as replacing the furnace in whole and since I had a basic, 'builders grade' unit, I should consider a full replacement. I also got the 'this deal is only available for the next week' because 11/1, the prices go up. The tech 'took' a CO reading and told me that the unit was emitting a lot of CO...something like 23 or 25 PPM (PPB?) and that at like 30, they have to call the gas company and basically have my furnace condemned (shut off until replaced), but of course he would cut me some slack.
Checked out my upstairs furnace and found the fan motor that initially kicks in was drawing too much power, like a 1/2 an amp or something and that the igniter needed to be replaced. Quoted nearly $500 for those repairs, but would 'throw them in free with the purchase of the first floor furnace. A little research and I found the parts for the upstairs were basically about $100 and labor to replace is about 30 minutes!
Needless to say, I was skeptical about the findings. I knew the motor had an issue on the upstairs as we can here it start....stop and then start again, but the first floor was another issue!
I had two other companies come out and check the first floor unit. Both found the CO emission to be ZERO and questioned why we would specifically ask them to check this out. Both told us the furnace was fine and that we 'may' want to consider replacing it to get something more efficient but otherwise it was working as expected.
Additionally, as others have stated, nothing was was cleaned. The tech made an attempt to open the humidifier and couldn't figure it out. When one of the other guys was out checking the furnace, he cleaned that and found the drain was plugged which was the 'biggest issue' he found.
All in all, my general experience with any of these 'inspection' types of deals is that it is just a way for these companies to instill some fear into unsuspecting people in order to up-sell other services they offer.

They came out for the tune up but I didn’t have a water source or realized I needed one. He ended up giving me a voucher for a furnace tune up. I had to get a new furnace installed after my basement flooded so I got a refund for the deal.
