Lawn Irrigation
On 4/20/16 we had some heads repaired and some extra heads added for a garden we were putting up next to the side of the house. In order to install the 4 new heads, they had to water blast under our walkway to get the new pipe to go under. My husband watched them and they had a hard time, having to really shove the PVC line under the walkway. When they left, they tested the system for less than a minute or so and it worked fine. We did not use the system again until 5/7/16 (approx) after I put in several asian jasmine plants. I dig down 6-7 inches to install the small plants and used a hand trowel to do this, very aware that somewhere underneath were the new pvc pipes. When I finished I put the system on. At first it was fine. Then, after a few minutes water came gushing out from under our walkway. I called Rainscape and explained the situation. They came out that afternoon. My husband was there when they came. Right from the beginning they began blaming us for the massive leak. My husband pointed out that where the pipe had blown out was just as it began to come up from under the walkway. That is over a foot down. It was too deep for me to have done while planting, not to mention there were no plants there. A week later we got a bill for $75.00. We called Rainscape. During the phone call, Ivan did most of the talking. He repeatedly said that the system was working when they left. That is true, it was working for the less than one minute they tested it. He would not entertain any possibility that his crew shattered the pipe while trying to shove it under the walkway, nor would he entertain the possibility that once the system was left on for awhile, the pressure built up causing the pipe to blow. He refuted and possibility that his company was responsible in any way at all. We told him that we had the piece of the joint that he cut out to repair the leak and that it did have a visible hairline crack in it. He disputed this, as well. He didn’t allow either my husband or me to get a word in edgewise. In the end he said, in a less than professional tone and manner, and I am quoting, “This happens all the time, people think I did something to destroy their property. Fine don’t pay. I will just never service your property again.” To us, it was never about the money. We are not people who try to get out of our obligations. It was about them taking responsibility for a mistake that they made. This is not how we are used to being treated by the companies we use. They should have entertained the possibility that they either shattered that pipe putting it under the walkway or that the pipe itself was defective. It appears to me that Rainscape, is only concerned with the money, and not with customer satisfaction.
