The best exterior paint type to use on a stone house is an acrylic latex, preferably a semi-gloss or eggshell, as it is durable and easy to clean. Rather than learning how to repaint a room in its entirety, you might want to touch up areas that are showing worn paint or damage. For painting your cinder block walls, you should use a 1/2-inch nap roller. Depending on the square footage you need to paint, you might need a 3/4-inch nap roller. Besides rollers, you can also use a paint sprayer if you have one on hand or want to rent one.

Using a roller allows you to apply a mist coat quickly to avoid uneven spots while drying, but it can create streaks and splatters from the watery paint. Applying with a paintbrush can take longer but may be less messy. There are pros and cons to using either a roller or a brush for the mist coat. The mist coat is diluted, so it can be messier to work with, but it also dries quickly.
