Using this contractor was a nightmare.  They were hired to repair our house after a fire as a preferred contractor from our insurance company.  But after 1 month into the job we had to fire them.  Many parts of the job they said that were completed were either not done properly or not done at all.  Wood that had been charred from the fire was suppose to be sealed, but was not done properly.  Old burnt insulation from the fire was reused.  They broke my granite countertop and only wanted to pay to match up the broken piece which was impossible to get an exact match. My insurance company had to push them to get them to replace it all.  I believe I was lied to several times by the project manager and could not trust him. The insurance company also made them pay for the damage they did to my house during the demolition.
Imagine having your house hit by lightning and catching on fire.  Then moving out of your home and having to deal with these kinds of issues with a contractor.  Bottom line is we had to fire them because we could not trust them, and because of the bad quality of their work.

After getting the initial estimate they disappeared. Work was to have been completed by end of September and I can't get them to return phone calls. Just fired them (Oct. 29th) and hired another contractor, more highly rated on Angie's List, which I should have done at the beginning.

The company installed a new roof for my home and left a gap around the chimney resulting in a massive leak inside my home. Total damage for the leak was $15k. Hand R were given an oppportunity to examine the damage and do the repairs. One of their team members examined the leak and immediately claimed fault.
They were willing to fix it, but it was apparent very soon that they were going to do a quick/cheap repair instead of doing the job correctly. I chose to use a different firm for the interior repairs which upset the owner of Hand R. From there on, they became impossible to contact and after months of trying sent me a letter from their lawyers stating that they were not a fault. In the end the my insurance company and I paid for all of the damage caused by their mistake.
There are too many good contractors out there for me to ever consider, refer or suggest that anyone work with Hand R in the future.
Response from H&R General Contractors
"First off Mr. [member name removed] is not a actual customer of H&R we did the work for the previous homeowner and therefore there is not a transferable warranty to Mr. [member name removed]. With that being said Mr. [member name removed] did contact us regarding leaking to the roof and we did send out a rep to inspect and try to verify the problem. Upon inspection we did find a leak in the flashing to the chimney and offered to first mitigate the damages and set a time for the next day to do water mitigation and fix the problem however when my tech got the house Mr [member name removed] refused service and sent him away. Mr. [member name removed] then brought in another Restoration company that he told me he was personally friends with to quote the work and do the job. The work and quote that he had this company do was completely over board and inflated in price based on what we saw and we also told his insurance the same. At the end of the day Mr. [member name removed] wasn't a customer and had no warranty and we did try to service based on good faith but he refused or services."

Worst experience ever. They don't show up when they say they will. Now they are charging for services that they didn't do and also for putting plastic over my contents that I did myself. They are not good at returning phone calls I've had to initiate all the calls when they said they would return my calls. Not a reputable company and would definitely NOT recommend them for any work.

"Unfortunately this Job and customer did have a few communication errors on our part and on the customer. We tried to rectify the problem and contacted the customer but he decided to go with another company to do the restoration. We only did the initial demo and never got to return to do any other work."

They didn't do everything we talked about and they had to remove a lot of the siding they put on and start over because they didn't put house wrap on first. The guys on the crews did good work for the most part. Problems were mostly in dealing with the salesman and the company.
Response from H&R General Contractors
"[member name removed] I'm sorry for the problems and the salesperson was terminated related to some of the issues related to you job and others."

They showed up as promised early in the morning of what would turn out to be the hottest day of the year. They working until the whole project was completed. I kept the crew supplied with ice water during their breaks. The did the new roof first and installed two skylights and flashing. They placed all the new shingles with drip edge. Then they removed the shingles and felt from the roof valley where they suspected the leak. They put down a sheet of water and ice adhesive backed underlayment. They blended new shingles with the existing roof. The end result looks great and so far no leaks!

The workmanship and professionalism is excellent. The project has taken longer to complete than I would have preferred due to staffing changes and communication slips, but overall, I am very satisfied.

The roof was hail damaged to the point of complete replacement. Leaks on a rap around porch, several smal overhangs and a barn shed.I had originally called a major national contrcting company and they wouldn't touch it because of the flat widows walk. Hand R worked with me and the insurance company to meet the budget, then exceeding the quality of the roof. in avery timely fashion. The sales staff was very patient and helpful helping choose what is best for colors and type of shingles. I have never had to make a once in a life time roof decision like this and again they were very helpful in explaining everything.
The roof was tore off and replaced in 2 14hour days. This a high peek victorian house, I think 10/12. Without issue.Well, 1 issue on the widows walk with a chimney and opening., was handled very quickly without issue. Almost forgot because it was handled..
The roofers and project managers were respectful and very attentive, clean and not intrusive.
They didn't sell me a roof, they repaired my home and I am very appriciative of thier service.
I don't have any other home repair experience to compare this to, but this was huge and couldn't ask for any better with my 132 year old house and new lifetime shingled roof.

The work that was done was, window repair in living room, window replacement in bedroom, drywall repair in living room, a surround wall replacement in bathroom, and siding repair on front of house. There was a fitting issue in the bathroom with the wall surround for the bathtub, and the window replacement took longer than was expected. Once everything was completed, we were satisfied.

Hand R was recommended to us by our insurance company to replace our front door after a home burglary. Casey was the first one to come out and give an estimate. He was responsive to my questions and was pleasant to work with. Once the insurance company approved the estimate, Sam was in charge of getting the work scheduled. We worked with him to get the door we wanted ordered and then scheduled for installation. Bryan was the person who installed the door and painted all the trim. Other than a new door, everything looks the way it did before the burglary.
I found all of the individuals above easy to work with and responsive to my questions and concerns. If we ever do any other type of remodeling, we will definitely call Hand R.

We had several contractors come out and inspected our roof and claimed to fix the problem. Not until H and R General Contractors came out did the problem get fixed on the first try. Gregg was honest and professional. He assured us that he would figure out how to prevent water damage to our roof. He put us at ease and explained what he was going to do until we understood it. He was neat and respected our home. He did not leave a mess behind. He had a plan A and plan B. I thought companies and people like Gregg were gone forever. No problem is too small or big for this company to solve. Thank you Gregg and H and R General Contractors for a pleasant experience and fix to our roof problem.
