This ended up being a very emotional visit for us. Our male cat was in obvious distress - and diagnosed by the vet working with a urinary blockage. She let us know the options - he would have needed to stay at the clinic overnight, have a cath placed to drain his bladder. We then would have had to have picked him up before they closed the next morning and take him directly to our vet for further observation and any needed follow up treatments. She also explained that this may not cure his problem, and the blockage often times re-occurs, sometimes quickly (nearly immediately) or over time. This would have cost us nearly over $600, not including any further treatment from our usual vet after leaving the clinic. We made the heartbreaking decision to have him euthanized, (1) we could not afford the cost of the treatment and have it not be a "nearly sure" fix and (2) we did not him to suffer needlessly. The vet reassured us that we were not "bad pet parents" for making this decision, and that she has a cat with similar issues and has already decided that she would not opt for the treatment either should her cat reach the same point. While obviously this was a hard visit for us, the vet working was wonderful. However the vet tech/front desk attendant projected a rather poor "bedside" manner. She projected the impression that we were disrupting her by simply being in the building. She was attentive and answered questions, but just projected a bad attitude during our visit.
