Ferman Excavating

Much of the ditch was in a cramped location between the house and a steep, upward-sloping bank.  From the start the project was complicated by a number of unexpected large rock slabs (typically 1? thick and 4? across) beneath the surface which blocked the path of the ditch.  Excavating these unavoidably left large pockets in the banks of the ditch.  This complicated placement of the geotextile and film liners, requiring extensive reconfiguration along with more gravel than planned.  Other complications were rainy days after which work (in the wet clay) was not possible for a few days.

In spite of these obstacles, the work proceeded very satisfactorily and to a successful conclusion.  Mr. Ferman is experienced and very skilled at operating an excavator and skid-loader.  (I say that as someone having earlier personal experience in similar areas).  He was always conscientious and carefully planned each day?s work in consultation with me, sometimes anticipating and resolving problems before they occurred.  Interacting with him and his associates was a pleasure.  I felt his charges were very reasonable.  Without question I would have him back again for other projects.
