This past month the ceiling developed a small leak. When I called Purkey's back, they said that one of the joints (which did have glue on the outside of the joint) had come apart--apparently it did not have glue on the inside, and because Purkey's saw glue on the outside, they failed to test it.) When I brought this to their attention, they said they couldn't be held responsible for it. Before I could get that drywall issue fixed, I discovered that I now have a 2' x 8' wet area on the same ceiling. Upon further inspection (when I called them back yet again) Purkey's said that upon further review they had "discovered" that the float on the kill switch was missing a key part--which they could not find; the plumbing was done incorrectly (it was, they showed it to me), and that the setup did not meet code because there was no secondary drain for the auxiliary (overflow) pan.
When the changes were complete, I asked the installer if there was anything more that needed to be done to the A/C unit, the setup, etc... in order to make sure that it: A) met code, B) would not have any more leaking because all joints were correct, plumbing correct, etc... and C) would function unless the drain backed up; in which case the "kill switch" would activate and force me to call them to clear the drain. He responded in the affirmative. Then I asked him if the code requirements had changed; if the setup had changed since I had asked him the same questions last time. His response was this time he had looked more fully at the unit and the setup.
In the future, I'll be using someone else; in fact I'm calling someone on Angie's List to review the work that Purkey's just completed - just to make sure that I don't have to have the drywall guy out a third time.
