Initially the job went well, the contractor started on time and completed the job in a reasonable time frame (this was Fall 2013). However, they used the wrong type of wood for the replacement deck boards, and the company owner, Ron Huser, refused to come to our home and physically inspect the job. He insisted that the right wood was used and it would all match by Spring 2014. I contacted him early in Spring 2014 because the deck boards did not match. He still stonewalled, but eventually came out to inspect. Once on our property he immediately admitted the wrong wood was used. He proposed replacing all remaining deck boards with the new wood (a cheaper grade) at his expense. We agreed, as long as he would also stain the new deck. The new wood was installed. While on our property the workers clogged an outdoor toilet and left without fixing it. 2 weeks later I called Master Built to have the deck stained. Over a 2 week period I have placed 3 calls and sent Ron an email. He has not responded to send a crew to stain our deck. Additionally, we now notice that the new concrete deck has cracks (it is less than 1 year old) and there is a low spot next to our home which allows water to come into our basement. This is a problem he was supposed to fix with the new concrete pour. Overall, our experience has been poor. The customer service offered by Ron Huser is dismal, and we feel like we wasted our money. August 11, 2014 UPDATE In early August I attempted to contact Ron Huser again to schedule time to stain our deck. As usual there was no response. We wrote a letter threatening legal action if he did not address our issues with deck stain and improperly sloped concrete. He called upon receipt of the letter and scheduled a visit to our home. When he arrived he inspected the job and asked what we would like him to do. We requested a refund of $2,200, which will be the cost of having another contractor stain the deck and properly repair the sloping concrete. Ron agreed and mailed a check the next day. We are very happy we no longer have to deal with Master Built Construction.
Description of Work: Removed a swimming pool and concrete deck, poured new concrete patio, replaced a large number of boards on our wood deck.
