The installers arrived on the appointed day and I was advised there was a need for additional preperation, that remaining tile flooring and tack strips would need to be removed at an additional cost. Was a little surprised this wasn't included in pricing since the salesperson was there and these were things that were pretty noticable. I, however, agreed to split the cost of this work rather than stop the job, about $75. In addition, the installers leveled a portion of the floor for the vinyl which was included in the cost.
While removing the tack strips, the installers, inadvertently hit a pipe running across the baseboard that provides the radiant hot water heat, creating a leak. The manager at Miller called and advised the situation and I agreed to pay the $200+ or so dollars it cost to have a plumber repair as the argument could be made it was partly due to the age of the system.
The repair didn't occur until the afternoon and the job was delayed until the next day, ultimately taking 3 days to finish by the time the leveling compound dried and the floor dried from the leak.
So the installers did a good job with one exception, no transition from the top of the stairs, laminate flooring to carpet starting on the stairs.
Left on vacation a couple of days later after talking with sales person, and advised transition was not complete and left that we would get back together when I returned.
Upon return I left 3 messages for the sales person over the next week and did not get a call back. Called Tuesday the next week, and rather than leave a message talked to person answering the phone and she indicated she would have him call me. He did, leaving a message that the installers indciated it was the responsibility of the installer of the laminate to put a transition in, not the carpet installer, but if that wasn't going to work, they would try to come up with something.
I am not sure what that means. I guess since it sounds like it is too much trouble I will just do it myself, go to Lowe's or Home Depot and find a transition to install. The point of my contracting to have the entire job completed was exactly that, not have to go through a bunch of gyrations to have a finished job.
At the end of the day the experience with Miller was mediocre, and may just as well have had a major chain do the work, this experience wasn't much different. Seems like the sales person either wasn't on top of the job requirments or simply didn't provide all the detail needed to really finalize everything that was needed to complete appropriately.
