However, from the first day the employees began work, problems began. The workers are very knowledgeable & friendly, but do not have required equipment to do the work. I had specifically requested (although I shouldn't have had to) that they seal off the upstairs so that the dust would not go all over the house & so my pets could not enter the area they were working. Not 2 hours go by when I see the workers removing ceiling tiles (suited up in hazmat suits & respirators) & the dust is flying all over the house. I asked the workers to stop & it took several phone calls until plastic arrived to seal. Again & again throughout over 3 months of work I was told that they couldn't do something because they didn't have the parts (at one point, I questioned why my new bathroom sink had an old, very convoluted, pieced-up drain & was told all he had was parts from a previous job).
For the first few days, several workers were on site & work progressed smoothly. But after just 1 week, only 2 workers were left & work progressed very slowly. Then, once drywall was up & sanded, I was down to 1 worker & only the walls had been done. It took over 3 months to have the work completed.
The owner rarely returned calls, especially when I had a complaint. When the upstairs bath was completed, they started on the downstairs bath & encouraged up to use the upstairs shower. Right away I called complaining that a lot of water ran through the seams of the tub surround walls & drained into the garage below. Larry told me "It shouldn't do that" & did nothing to fix it. His remaining worker attempted several things but couldn't grout then seams because he said he would get in trouble if he did & Larry noticed. Finally, after repeated angry phone calls, Larry came on site & saw for himself that water was leaking & had pooled under the new linoleum floor . He grudgingly had another employee come & grout the tub & surround seams. I told him 2 days later that water still leaked from the tub, but got no response. Several months later, I noticed water in the garage again under the tub. I called Hoosier Services & never received a return call. I had to have my plumber reconnect & tighten connections between pipes in the tub drain.
The downstairs bath needed wallpaper removal, walls painted, counter replaced, hardware replaced, & tub door installation. Well, the tub leaks from the seal under the new door, rust is showing through the paint where they did not cover the metal corner pieces on the knee wall, & we are still trying to clean the baseboards where the wet wallpaper stuck.
The new step works well, but the trim molding they glued on has peeled off. I had to call several times to get the doorbell completed, & we still have problems. Because the original doorbell box inside was horizontal & the new box they purchased was vertical, the installed the new one horizontally & tried to glue the cover into place. It falls off often when the front door is closed.
We didn't use the outdoor faucets until this summer, & the first time I did, water ran in the crawl space under the house & continued to run after shutting off the faucet. I had to have my plumber repair a faulty connection on the new installation in the crawl space.
I, smartly, withheld half payment until completion, which is, I believe, the only reason some of the issues were addressed.
In conclusion, DO NOT USE HOOSIER SERVICES. The actual workers are great, but the owner is unresponsive & does not stand by his work.
