"Thank you [Member Name Removed]! We are happy that you are pleased with your fence! Should you ever have any problems, please do not hesitate to call us! Regards, The Blue Crew"
They came really quick to put up post and it took a little time for them to put up the rest of the fence. I am very happy with the fence. They worked very quickly and cleaned everything up after them. The fence looks great.
Blue's installed my fence when I moved into my home. The fence had been in place for two years prior to my request.
How it went:
I called Blue's and they provided an initial estimate of $300 to install a 10' gate.
They scheduled a time to come out and install the gate.
They didn't show at the scheduled time and I let a few days pass.
I called to see why the work wasn't started and they said that they were going to install my gate when completing work for a neighbor. The neighbor's work was rescheduled for a later date so they pushed back my fence as a result.
They came out a week later and re-set the posts.
Then, they came out a week after that and installed the gate and completed the work.
I wasn't home at the time they completed the work so they left an invoice in the door. I read it over and the total was ~$670.
At the time of this review, I've paid $300 towards my balance. I'll pay the rest as I'm able -- I just wish they would have communicated more clearly during the process (about the actual cost and their timeline).
I am a and quot;negotiated sole sourceand quot; customer. I like working with just one provider for my contracting needs - one HVAC company, one electrical contractor...and one fencing contractor. I do not believe in the and quot;get three bids for every job just to keep 'em honestand quot; philosophy. I want long term relationships, excellent performance and service, and negotiated contracts where both parties win.
That's what I was trying to achieve with Blue's, but to no avail. Here's how my experience with Blue's played out:
Getting the original bid: Blue's was very good about this. They responded quickly, came out twice, and delivered a bid in a timely fashion. My analysis - when the scent of money is in the air their performance is excellent.
Scheduling the start of the job: This was a small job, so I expected that they would not have it at the top of their scheduling priority and I was okay with that. They told me at the time of bid that it would be and quot;two-three weeks out.and quot; That was fine with me. That then got pushed out further, and while I was less fine with that I accepted it.
Project Start: They finally scheduled a day to start (at most this was a two-day job), and informed me that I needed to be there. There was no good reason for me to have to be there, but I took some time off work and went to the property to meet them at the scheduled morning start time (9am...a late start for a construction project in my book). When the appointed time rolled around they were a no-show. I waited another half hour, then called their shop. The person who answered showed some confusion about scheduling, and told me that the crews were all out on and quot;another big joband quot; and that they would have somebody get back to me. Someone finally did get back to me, and then they sent a crew over. The crew knew nothing about the scheduling issue and showed up with a and quot;we're here nowand quot; attitude. I was very frustrated by the lost time and the unprofessional handling of the scheduling. I went over the job again with this crew, and then left.
Construction: On day one the crew set all of the posts, and then left (as expected, as the posts needed to set up).
Then the wait began. Like too many residential, small-time contractors once Blue's had done a little work (get a toe-hold) then they disappeared and didn't return for many weeks. There was no communication back to the client (me), no notification about scheduling...they just disappeared. Eventually they reurned and finished the job, but again, with no communication at all.
Job Closeout: I was never notified that the job was done (I don't live at the property), and just had to keep driving by regularly to see if they had done their job yet. Eventually it was done. Then they sent me a hand addressed envelope with an invoice enclosed, but still no explanation for their delay, no and quot;thanks for your business, and quot; just an invoice.
Final Payment: As they seemed to be in no hurry to service the customer or to communicate, I decided to give them a taste of their own medicine...delay, don't communicate...and they could care less. They don't want to know how their customers feel about thier services, and they don't want long term relationships.
Final Analysis: In spite of their website showing all of their and quot;big nameand quot; customers - Purdue, Cat...they are a small-time, local, unprofessional contractor who can apparently get-low and attract business of those who want the lowest price. I want the right project, with the right service, at the right price, and that doesn't mean the lowest price necessarily.
I want long term reliable relationships with professional contractrors - Blue's Fence is NOT one of those.
After writing this review I have changed my overall rating of them from a and quot;Cand quot; to a and quot;D.and quot; Their field work is fine, their estimating services are fine. Their management, communication and service is very poor.
in and did a very poor job of installing the gates for my privacy fence. Blue fence gave me an estimate to what it would cost to correct the gates. They charge no more than their original estimate and did a excellent job. I would definitely recommend this organization somebody interested in having Privacy fence installed
Overall I think they did a good job with the fence. Surprisingly, they were cheaper than I expected and about $800 less expensive than another fence group I got a quote from. My job was for around 230 linear feet.
JR was the one to come out and walk the yard with me, give me the estimate, and was my point of contact throughout the work.
Once I decided to choose Blue's Fence to do the fence he put me on the schedule which was 2 weeks out from when we talked.
I had to call at the job date because the city had marked the water 2.5 days prior, but the other person/group that marks the utilities had not done their job come the post digging/setting day. I do NOT see this as any fault of Blue's. They are the ones who call the 811 #, but the markers should be done within 48 hrs. Clearly, seeing the city marked theirs that Monday, and come Thursday the utilities were not marked, the marking group/people just failed to do the job within the usual 48 hrs. JR called them to follow up, they utility marker person was out a few hrs later. This pushed the post digging/setting job to the next day (Friday, 1 day later than JR planned to do it). That's OK. (Turns out my neighbor had problems waiting on the utility marker people, too, and he was doing it for irrigation).
Anyway, the only issue I had with BLUES was this:They indicated they'd be back around TUESDAY the following week [posts need time to set/cure]....no show, no call.Gave them another day, no show, no call. So I called them but had to leave a message. Got a call back from JR eventually, told me they'd be back around Friday. No show, no call. Now it's Memorial day weekend, they did show up TUESDAY to do some of the planking, but didn't get it all done (ok).Figured they'd be back the following day. NO. Called and left message. JR called me back, told me that they'd be there SATURDAY.THEY DID SHOW SATURDAY and finished up.I asked the crew what was up, they indicated equipment issues (compressor broke/had to be fixed--they use it as source of air for nail gun). I understand things happen, they do where I work, too.
Total job span time was just over 2 weeks from posting to finishing.
SUMMARY:If you don't get them when you call, LEAVE A MESSAGE. You will eventually get a call back, maybe the next day.*****They could be better at CALLING to tell you they'd be (days) later than expected. As long as you go into this figuring that from the time you start (post holes get dug, and post set) to the final end and done with the fence could be 2 to 2.5 weeks you'll be happy. If you're wanting to have fence work done to meet some deadline BE CLEAR UP FRONT with them. I did not need it to meet any deadline.
I do know other neighbors who got a fence done recently (a month prior to me) and it was done under a week. Because of this I don't see it as a chronic issue, but as with any project, expect a curve ball and deal with it if it does show up.
I would do business with them again.
