The roof looks great. They did a great job and completed it in two days. The crew worked late to try to complete before the rain came. Once finished, the place was spotless. Overall, I was very pleased with Universal Roofing from the beginning estimate to clean-up.

Replacing a roof is one expense you really have to be sure of. Gary was prompt with the estimate, no surprises. I knew the wood was old & rotten in spots and he could only see so far into the house. Nothing surprises me with my home (built in 1880's). Lots of work has been done, some not so correction. I sleep well at night knowing I really got my money's worth with Universal Roofing. Clean up and overall work ethic. I haven't found a single nail yet! No need for another estimate. Use Universal, you won't be sorry. Keep up the great job.

Called and estimate was provided promptly. They followed up with me but I had to wait on insurance. After the insurance was resolved I called them leaving a message on how to proceed. Never received a call back. Called again a week later and remembered I needed to send the estimate with my initials back to them - my fault but this could have been resolved more quickly if they had returned the call. Mailed the paperwork and called them again after a week to make sure they received it and to ask about color selection. They promptly brought out samples and I left them another message with the selection. Another week or so passes and at 7:20 on September 4, my doorbell rang--it was the work crew. 20 minutes later, I received a call saying they were going to roof that day. When I returned home, the roof was complete, looked nice, and they did a very good job of clean-up. There were a few very small pieces of plastic and I found 1 nail a few days later.

Work was fine. They were having some administrative problems - as a result there were some problems, but that was understandable based on the situation. One of their crew workers, Carlos, was terrific. He went above and beyond.

Our roof looks great, however, I think communication was lacking. I received a call to ask which type of shingles I had selected however I never received the samples. After the work was completed and paid, I had an unpleasant experience when I dropped off the sample and asked them to fill out paperwork for insurance. I felt as though it was an inconvenience on their part (even though they had already received payment in full). I also stated in my initial communication with them that I utilized Angie's List to find them but never received the Angie's List discount advertised.

Because everybody else was getting new roofs due to the hail damage, we didn't get scheduled as quickly as we had hoped, but once we got in, they stuck to their schedule.

You could really depend on them to come out when they say they would, and to a degree, they had good communication skills. I would call them again in the future for another estimate.

They were there on the job, on site and manager came by to make sure everyone was doing their job.

Have not heard a word from the company or the estimator as of 8/9/07.

They said they would call back with an estimate. I had to call them several times and each time they said they would send something out. They never gave an estimate so I went with someone else.

They provided an estimate and worked with us and our insurance company to arrive at an appropriate price. They arrived to do the work on the agreed date on time and finished on time. We were very pleased with every aspect of their work.

Excellent experience. Universal gave us a good estimate, completed the work quickly and gave us a final invoice below their estimate. They were terrific to work with.

When I contacted the company, someone came out right away to give me an estimate. I waited a while to call them back in order to get a few more bids. When I did contact them, I noted that the estimate didn't include any reference to one of the areas that was leaking. The rep. said he'd send me an updated estimate, but didn't. I called again a month or so later and asked again about an updated estimate. When I finally got it, the price had gone up $100 from the original verbal quote he'd given me the day he looked at my roof. I went ahead and signed the estimate and sent it back. After a week or two, I received an invoice in the mail. I thought it was just paperwork prior to scheduling the work. When I didn't hear anything for almost a month, I called and was told that the invoice indicated the work had been completed. I was surprised that no one contacted me about a date to do the work or had given me a status once the work was completed. I guess it's fixed but have no evidence.

We were very pleased with them. They were prompt, worked extremely hard, and cleaned up thoroughly. We had a couple of problems arise which we thought they handled really well. This is a great company!

Very professional work. Came in with hurricane force and got the job done! There was no damage to my landscaping, and the work was cleaned up in such a way that you couldn't even tell that crew had been here tearing off and replacing a roof (other than a beautiful new roof with no leaks!)

Received estimate that was about the right price, but it included new gutters and downspouts. When I called back on this I was told this is usually included by the "office". I said I did not need these. A new estimate was given with the exact same price as the 1st but a footnote that gutters and downspouts would be $1700 extra. When I called I was told that the 1st estimate was a mistake. I hired another contractor.

The two brothers who run the company told us where to go to get the supplies. I told him I didn't work on Friday's. The first Friday the weather was good, I found them starting the roof unannounced. The only thing wrong with this is that I had to leave and I drove over a nail in the driveway. The company said they would cover the repair to the tire. The tire repair actually caused the rest of the tires to be replaced. The owner said to deduct it from the bill and send the rest. They worked very hard. they replaced the roof in one day. In the dark, with a spot light, they cleaned up the yard of nails. The roof looks terrific and I have no leaks.

We had two to three different estimates and they were comparable and right on target. They were prompt, cleaned up and if we had any problems the owner came right out and talk to us.

They told me exactly what they saw and were completely honest by telling me that I did not need a new roof.

They were very professional and courteous. They showed up on time and did the job quickly. They did a great job and I would use them again.

Their crew did it all in one day and were very good. The owners were also good.

They have had to return to do more work 3 additional times: While cleaning my gutters I noticed they just did not reroof a flat section over a bay window which had to be done. They did a slipshod job on caulking around flashing and had to be redone. They did a random placement of the roof vents (I expected the same distance between each of the five) which caused rework including part of roof to be torn off, reposition vents and reshingle. I think Randy's managers should have checked out the crews work and noticed the lack of quality without my having to discover these problems. What other shortcuts did they take? To be fair, I think Randy and his managers were great in a one-on-one, but I think with all their business from the hail storm they hired more crews and accepted many more jobs than they could effectively supervise.

Randy (Owner) is extremely attentive to detail. They removed old shingles on a hot and windy day and contained debree extremely well. They discovered severe venting problems and corrected them. Installed Ice and Snow shield well beyond code, and installed the new shingles. When finished, the clean up was such that you could never tell they had even been there. This was all completed in one day (a very hot and windy day making the job all that much harder). Fixing the venting has lowered the temperature in my second level by almost 10 degrees. I can't say enough about Universal Roofing and how well they do their job.

We are very happy with our new roof. We had gotten estimates from 3 different roofing companies on Angie's List. Universal was in the middle as far as cost, but they have a 5 year workmanship warranty, as opposed to the two-year warranty offered by the company with the lowest estimate. Evidently, it is a family business and various members/employees stopped by periodically to check on how things were going. Their workers hand nail each shingle which, evidently, is a plus. We had to call them about replacing a strip of wood which they had left undone, and they were prompt in doing so. We would definitely use them again.

The installations went well, and the workers were careful and cleaned up the yard and driveway well. Randy dealt with a very difficult State Farm inspector who missed seeing the full extent of the damage. He made an extra trip here to go up on the roof with her and show her where there was extensive damage that she hadn't noticed during her initial inspection. She then gave us the correct amount of money to replace the roof. Randy was patient and tactful when he spoke with her. He also positioned our vents correctly, as they'd been previously installed in the wrong spots. We also liked the gutter installation, which was well done. Randy's office was responsive to my calls and concerns.
