Everything was perfect - cake, icing decoration, delivery. Yolanda, at Taylor's, was great and provided expert advice.

They were easy to work with, suggested the cupcake idea to fit our budget, and everything tasted great! We highly recommend them!

We ordered two cakes in person a couple of weeks ago at the bakery on 116th street. We told them exactly what we wanted.. On the cake for the shower we had to correct the spelling and the person we called in and talked with wrote it down and asked if we just wanted white frosting. We had ordered pink. A day or two before the shower someone called to check on our order and nothing had changed it was still white and the spelling had not been corrected. The lady that called got every detail changed The day of the shower I was to pick the cakes up at 10:00 am. I was going to joke with them that I was a minute late, but I waited 10 minutes to get waited on. In the past they have always brought more help out from behind to help. When I got waited on they went to get the cakes, after another ten minutes they informed me that it would be another ten minutes while they frosted the birthday cake. Seeing as how the shower was in less than an hour I did not have time to wait, so had to take a cake out of the display case. When I got home my wife called the manager and she said that they couldn't find the paper work for the birthday cake. The manager was not sympathic and made us feel like it was our fault. There was incompetence in taking orders and filling paperswork.

I had a very negative experience today at the 116th Street location of this bakery. When I called the bakery in the morning to inquire about placing an order, the person I spoke with was very friendly. I was told about the different flavors available and that I should stop by the store to place the order for the custom cakes I wanted. However, when I arrived at the store later that day, I was met with a completely different demeanor. I wanted to purchase 3 custom cakes for my son's graduation. However, when I asked about having a certain shape, I was told "We don't have that cake mold." I wanted a paw print shaped cake, nothing too extraordinary, but the people I spoke with in person had no interest in creatively meeting my needs. When I asked about sampling the cake flavors to make my choices for the 3 cakes, I was told I would have to purchase a $15.00 cake to have a taste! I was willing to spend a good amount of money to purchase custom cakes for a special occasion. Unfortunately, the people working behind the counter had no interest in helping me make the purchase. I will not be using this company again in the future for any of my bakery needs. The only reason I did not give them an "F" is because the person I spoke with on the phone was friendly and seemed to want to be helpful.
Response from TAYLOR'S BAKERY
"Unfortunately, Member was looking for an item that we do not offer. We make hundreds of different styles of cakes, but we do not have a paw shaped pan. Heather, the same manager that spoke to Member earlier on the phone, offered other possibilities such as hand piped paw prints or air brushed paw prints. We can also bake a cake in a specific shape if a customer finds a particular pan and brings it to us. Or, we could scan a school logo on the cake. Member didn't like any of these suggestions. Mrs. Gardner was also upset that we wouldn't cut a large dessert cake for her and give her a bite out of it. That's when Heather recommended that she try a cupcake for a $1.25, not a cake for $15.00. We consider the bakery business a happy business and we are truly passionate about it. We can make so many different wonderful items, but there are some cakes we just can't make. We like to offer that an owner is always available to speak with. We have almost a century of experience serving the Indy/Fishers area, and it's very disheartening to read a review like this; especially after offering so many different possibilities to a new customer."

I worked with Yo at the Allisonville Rd location to order and wedding cake. She was very professional and easy to talk to -- giving us different options and ideas. We took a picture in of what we wanted the cake to look like and she told us it would be no problem to make ours look the same. For our tasting they gave us a small cake to take home, with both vanilla and chocolate flavors. It's actually a pretty big sample! We were interested in carrot and red velvet too, so they gave us extra slices of those. They were very generous in their portions. Every flavor was magnificent!! It was hard to choose, but we decided to keep it simple and go with vanilla and chocolate. You can definitely tell their cake is made from scratch unlike some other big cake bakeries in town. When the cake showed up all I could do was smile - it was perfect and looked exactly like the picture I sent them. Not only did the cake look awesome but it tasted really really good. I will definitely use Taylor's again for any cake or cupcake needs I have -- their Allisonville location is always so busy, which is of course a great sign. Lastly, we received our deposit back within a week of the wedding.

The cake was moist and everyone said good things. I thought the icing was a little too thick for as rich as it was, but overall the cake was beautiful. The number "1" was the perfect size for him to tear into.

The Birthday cake was very beautiful and delicious. I wish their prices were a little bit lower so I can afford to go there more often. But they do a wonderful job.

Very well. I went to Taylor's Bakery with photos from my parents' 1968 wedding, hoping to duplicate the cake. The cake was hard to see in the photos, but they did a good job reproducing the cake. And it was delicious! It was a cake with filling between the layers, and they advised me to keep it very level to prevent the layers from sliding. Overall, we had a good experience - the cake was done when promised. The price was a little high, but worth it.

Taylor's Bakery has been our family's favorite for years. We get a birthday cake from Taylor's for every birthday in our family, and pastries for holidays. They staff is always cheerful and all of the baked goods are amazing.

A friend of mine recommended Taylor's for the cake. We had a sailboat theme and asked for that on the cake. The decorating was beautiful and the cake was good, but I was surprised at how expensive it was (around $40 for a 1/4 cake). I would probably only buy from them again if I really needed a specialty cake.

Their cakes are very delicious. They do well with special orders and special decorating. Our daughter ordered her wedding cake from them and it was beautiful! It turned out very nice; and they provided delivery of the wedding cake as well. We have never had any problems with them and they are perfect!

Great cheesecake. Hard to resist the other items in bakery as well. Cheesecake packaged well and very fresh. Birthday boy loved it. He doesn't like regular cake.

I decided to give them another chance since the last couple of times I have gotten baked goods from them it has seemed like the things were frozen and thawed rather than fresh. These cakes were the quality I expect from Taylor's and I will use them again.

I checked the web site and was impressed with the decorated cakes. I wanted a special cake for my granddaughter's first birthday and son's birthday, which are on the same day. I was hoping for suggestions of decoration that would be suitable for this combination. The person on the phone didn't have any suggestions, so I just asked for hearts and the "happy birthday Susie and Johnny" type of message, picturing three-dimensional hearts and edging. When she quoted the price of $37.75 for a 1/4 sheet cake I was stunned, but I was in a pinch so agreed. When I picked up the cake the next day I was very disappointed. It looked like I had decorated it myself. It had just skinny trails of icing on the edges and for the lettering and a few flat hearts and was nothing like the beautiful cakes pictured on the web site. To top it off, the cake was dry when we cut it.

Many of the guests inquired as to where the cake was purchased, and said they would be customers of Taylor's now.

They produced the cake as requested, however their prices have shot up dramatically for the same product. Thanks to the use of a debit card, I have the results from the last several years: Feb 2004 - $18.25; Feb 2005 - $19.25; Feb 2006 - $20.75; Feb 2007 - $20.75; October 2007 - $30.25. That is NOT a typo - they actually raised their prices $9.50 in 8 MONTHS while only increasing it $2.50 over the course of 3 YEARS. I am afraid to see what a cake will cost in February 2008 (I won't be finding out - I will get my cakes elsewhere from now on). I understand that prices need to go up, I understand that they are in business to make money, but I do not understand the switch from modest and reasonable 5%-8% price increases then a ridiculous 46% price increase. The only reason I got this cake was because my wife ordered it and I thought she heard them wrong when she told me how much it was. Had I known she heard right, I would have canceled the order.
Response from TAYLOR'S BAKERY
"We respect the views of all of our loyal customers, but this information is inaccurate. We had a price increase in 2011 when commodities skyrocketed. Our 8" two layer is still $26.00 today in 2012. It has never been higher than $26.00. The numbers provided above are just incorrect."

The service was excellent as well as the cake. Everyone was amazed at how pretty the cake was and when they found out it came from Taylors they were so excited. Obviously I am not the only one that know how great a Taylors cake tastes.

My boyfriend knew I would want a cake depicting my two cats drawn in icing. That's pretty specific, but I decorate cakes and cater part time, and I can custom design anything a person wants, so he wanted to do something very personal for me. When he went in, he was told he had to pick from their choice of designs only, because he had a photo and they couldn't work off a photo. He said he wouldn't get a cake there, he would go somewhere else. They said they had to have a line drawing. He is something of an artist, so he sat in their bakery for 45 minutes and drew (quite well!) my two cats from the photograph. The day the cake was needed, they called and said they had messed up three cakes and they couldn't do it. He voiced his disappointment, combined with the fact that it was 4 hours before the cake was supposed to be picked up. They begrudgingly finished the cake. It was better than a novice could do, but not amazing work. Tani's had such a big muzzle of icing he looked rabid.
