After having our wedding at our newly remodeled 120 year old home we noticed a horrible smell coming from our basement and crawl space. Raw sewage and a lot of water was almost covering the whole basement floor. We had a similar problem but on a MUCH smaller scale and called a plumber off of the list to come look at the problem a few months earlier. Was told it was the drain from the street and just needed a plug not a big deal nothing to worry about. A fore mentioned plumber installed plug and moved furnace drain to sump pump, problem solved. Gary from Streamline came out to look at our problem. His company was referred to us via word of mouth from my husbands work. Gary went the extra mile to find the real problem. He had to crawl all over the place trying to find the problem (our house is 1/4 basement and the rest crawl space), but he never gave up. Gary gave us a few worse case scenarios but continued to look because it didn't make sense what was going on. Finally he found a main sewer line in an addition built a few years ago that had never been capped off. With so many house guests and a lot of water and plumbing use the vacuum sucked in dirt and debris into the line. We were VERY impressed with his determination and willingness to figure out the problem and not just go with the easy fix. Which this turned out NOT to be. His philosophy is if he wouldn't do it in his own house he won't do it in someone else s. A few days, a few army shovels (not much room in a crawl space) and a lot of hard work and we had our plumbing back and in working order.
Description of Work: Do ALWAYS get at least TWO contractors to look at your problem!!! Gary from Streamline diagnosed our plumbing problem as shoddy workman ship from the previous owner, and a previous plumber not going just a little bit farther to find the real problem An addition was built onto our home on top of the main sewer line and clean out. Two bathrooms and a washer and dryer were added during the renovation. The main line was never capped off allowing it to vent into our crawl space. When we had our wedding and a lot of house guests it built up a vacuum and dirt and debris was sucked into the line causing a "muck"line, back up and cracking a drain line. We never smelled the sewer gas and the home inspector never noticed because a crawl space liner had been installed, therefore covering the problem. Instead of just using his eyes Gary used his nose and moved the crawl space liner and found the problem. They had to dig a five foot deep hole under the crawl space around the sewer pipe to replace the line, finding more shoddy workman ship the further they dug, as in a five gallon bucket of concrete used to patch the line sometime before. They removed the line and replaced it properly, installing a proper clean out and capping off the drain line. While in our basement he noticed a few other issues and let us know about them, said none were immediate issues but should be addressed. NO pressure and he wasn't looking to charge us for more work just noticed things and let us know. He explained everything in detail. We will be using Gary and Streamline again.
