In the process of selling our home, the inspection report indicated further investigation by a licensed structural engineer in which we called on Silver Creek Engineering to assist in this matter. My husband tried to set up an appointment with Mr. Scott Szentes, who finally agreed to stop by our house which was on his way home from work. Mr. Szentes was on our property for 45 minutes, and most of the time was unnecessary as the evaluation was complete within the first 15-20 minutes. We then receive a bill for 2 Hours, ($150) of which we agreed to pay $75 (already too much) and Silver Creek was unwilling to reconsider their costs based on actual time spent onsite without sending us to collections. We believe this organization is one of a "Typical Engineer" willing to take advantage of their ability to write small print on their contracts and squeeze every nickel out of you without offering any reasonability... even over just $75. Moreover, we did not even receive any form of written response from the "Evaluation" so the effort turned out to be a complete waste of time and money.
Response from Silver Creek Engineering Inc
"Our licensed Professional Engineer provided the services requested by our client in a professional manner in accordance with accepted industry standards. The client signed a Fee Agreement for a fixed fee of $600. The services requested by the client and listed in the Fee Agreement included: 1) making a site visit to make observations and take measurements; 2) identifying deficiencies and providing general recommendations for repair, as required; and 3) preparing a sealed written report. Our engineer visited the site on April 27, 2016 (not March 2nd as the client indicated), made observations, took photos for the written report, and then verbally conveyed his opinion and recommendations to the client. At that point, the client said he did not want a written report. Although we had a signed fee agreement for $600, the client was only billed for the actual amount of time spent on the project, including travel time for the site visit. The total billed was $225 (not $150, as the client indicated). We are sorry to hear that our clients are dissatisfied with the services that we provided, including the cost. However, we provided a professional opinion and recommendation as they requested and billed them for the time spent on the project at a rate provided in the signed Fee Agreement and consistent with accepted industry standards."
