He did fine work but he also had me sign a form that forced me to send a report to Angies List to get the discount. Since I forgot to send in the report he charged me $35.00 for each time he came out which was three times. Right now I have a bill for approx. $100.00 just because I didn't file a report on Angies List.
Response from Screens N Things
"When I came out to the member’s home I explained to him that I give a 10% discount up front if he agrees to report on my company within 30 days of completion of the project. The member agreed and even signed my form clearly stating that if you do not report within 30 days you will be charged back the 10% discount. A week later after completing the first job, the member contracted me for a second job. About a week after that job the members wife contacted me to come back out and tighten a screen that had come lose from the first job and this was done at no charge. At 30 days out from the second job I contacted the member to inform him that I have not yet seen a report on either job. He advised me he would get right on it. Sixty days out I charged The member back $71.00 and $35.00, the 10% discount for the first and second job. The member sends me an email that he is going to pay it but that I should rethink my policies. If The member did not agree to my policy, he did not have to sign the form and he would not have gotten the discount and would not have had to report within 30 days. Since that email, The member has completed a false report on Angie’s List stating that I am charging him back $35 for the 3 visits I made to his house. So far he has only paid $35.00 and has been trying to negotiate his way out of the $71.00 by having Angie's List intervene. I immediately put a stop to this by filing a small claims court complaint against the minister for the remaining $71.00 plus court costs plus removal of his false and inaccurate report. Even ministers can't hold up their end of an agreement now-a-days."

Screens-n-Things did a very good job. Very responsive. I was able to get a lot of things done via email, such setting the appointment time and even selecting the new door.

The previous owner was a woodworker and had custom made a wooden screen door and garage entry door. When we were ready to replace them, Shane advised us that the doors were not standard. He was able to use standard doors on both as they reworked the door openings so that a standard sizes would fit.

Great. It looks very nice and the screen is a much better grade than what we originally had. They explained to me that the screen would never be stabilized properly with the way that it was originally placed in. Shane had his folks remove the old wood, reuse if they could, staple the mesh in place and add another piece of wood to disguise the stapling. Shane was also very good at keeping in contact with me as we were having to reschedule due to bad weather. I've already spoken with him concerning future jobs that I will call them for. Overall, excellent service!

Shane promptly called to set up an appointment to give a free estimate. He arrived on time, and quickly did an estimate. His price was fair, and he was very well organized. He gave me lots of information on his policies, his price match, his referral program and Angie's List discount. I received other estimates, but went with Screens N Things because of the positive experience during the estimate. Work was scheduled. Shane had to reschedule the original work date, but communication was very good, and they were able to come the next day. The workers were on time and did a great job. Very friendly. Shane came by that evening to do a walk through and to pick up payment. My only complaint is a few staples I found on the floor. (I have small children.) And there was a lot of dirt/dust to clean up. But, I guess that's to be expected. Overall very satisfied.
Response from Screens N Things
"We apologize for any staples or dust that may have been left. Our installers attempt to clean the entire area before they leave. Unfortunately, some staples and nails do get missed. We will be sending this customer a gift card to make up for the debris. Thank you for your business and your report."

The experience went well overall because the screens are exactly what I wanted especially since they are old windows and there was not another option besides getting all new windows with screens. We did run into a few snafus where we had to reschedule a few times and I was late one time getting home, but overall the windows and sliding screen worked out great.
Response from Screens N Things
"I LOVED WORKING FOR THESE CUSTOMERS! I AM NOT SURE WHY THEY GAVE ME A RESPONSIVENESS OF B WHEN I WAS ALWAYS LEAVING THEM MESSAGES. I RETURNED ANY AND ALL PHONE CALLS AND GAVE HER THE PELLA DOOR FOR COST PLUS INSTALLATION. LOOKING FORWARD TO DOING MORE WORK FOR THEM THIS SPRING."

I needed the strongest frames possible and Shane talked to me about how to get that done. The screens have been in since July and recently stood up to the remnants of Hurricane Ike that tore through the area. That was the ultimate test and they did a great job.

Shane arrived as he promised and looked at the work we needed. He suggested a different type of screen for the patio door to prevent the dog from making holes in it, as had caused the tear. He gave us an estimate and said he would have the work back in 2 days. He accommodated our schedule as our son was getting married that weekend and we could only be home at specific times. Screens are up and look fabulous. Estimate was accurate and fair. We will certainly call him again for any future screen repairs.

Shane came out to my house and removed my sliding screen door. He returned the next evening and replaced the door which he had rescreened. My wife and I are very happy with the job Shane did with the new screen. I have a Great Dane who likes to let us know she's ready to come in from outside by getting up on her back two legs and pawing on the screen with her front two paws. Needless to say, the original (cheap) screen that was in the door didn't hold up well to that at all and had ripped in a few places. Shane replaced the screen with a "heavy duty" type screen. Hopefully it will hold up better to future "OK, I'm ready to come in now" requests!

I was charged $30.00 for one screen door for regular screen material and $50.00 for the other screen door due to it was a stronger material for outdoor use called pet screen, well worth the extra price. Both doors were removed and taken back to the business and brought back the next day finished and installed in less than 24 hours of removal. I was very impressed and thought the price and entire experience was excellent.... 5 stars out of 5....

Well. The job looks great. He gave us several choices on doors for the screen porch and was much more economical than 3 other bids- the other bids were more remodelers and this is his main business- doing screens. He went out of his way to also repair rollers on our sliding door screens and found that when the rollers were quite expensive he was able to adjust the screen rollers and use silicone to make them function better. Thus he was cost conscious. He got the job done on time and in an efficient manner. I would hire him again.

The door closed and locked with effort on my part. I was not thrilled, but he had spend an inordinate amount of time trying to repair a problem that neither of us understood. All of the screens looked much better done by a professional. Still he was not satisfied. He called later to tell me that he now knows what the problem is and he is coming back to finish the job competently. I was very surprised! That's highly commendable, and very professional. Sad to say, but it is unusual to find people so conscientious about their work. He obviously takes a great amount of pride in his work, as well he should. I was very pleased.

Excellent. This was a rather unique job, in that this business is in Lebanon, IN and I live in New Palestine, opposite ends of the world basically. So we did everything by email or snail mail, I sent photos to Shane of the existing screens along with measurements I took. He sent back a frame sample and an estimate to build ten screens. Two weeks later he delivered the screens he had built sight unseen and they fit perfectly, the color is a perfect match, everything about this job was perfect. I have worked with contractors etc., on site who couldn't get things done this well, yet Shane did all this without ever coming to our home until the screens were done. Pretty good I thought. I would certainly use this company for any other window/screen projects I might have in the future.
