"Thanks for the review [Member Name Removed]! We enjoyed working for the both of you as well! So glad you like how the kitchen turned out! If you ever need anything else let us know!"
Phil Rabb stated the rupture could not be repaired and the entire counter top would have to be replaced. Apparently Rose Rabb was unaware of this when she responded to my poor review on Angie's List by offering to repair at "a responsible cost" to me. Since it can't be repaired, the cost would be to replace, which is completely unacceptable. I am EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED with the company's refusal to take responsibility and advise potential customers not to do business with Rabb & Howe.
"We apologize for any inconvenience. Upon going out to take a look to correct the problem, Phil Rabb, owner and operator was certain that the issue had to be water damage. It happen as quick a wet rag sitting on the seam for even less than a day, a coffee pot in the vicinity etc.... Obviously moisture is a seams worse nightmare. The customer is correct that even after close to two years that seam should hold up just fine. We were more than happy to come back out and fix the counter top at a responsible cost to her as we would incur most monetary responsibility and service work time. If [Removed name] would ever like to take us up on that offer it still stands and we'd be glad to rectify the situation if at all possible. Thanks So Much- Rose Rabb Secretary"
We called them to tell them that we wanted to go for it, and when talking to Rose on the phone she was polite, and friendly. They told us the apporiximate time it would take before they could install. They called after the two weeks they said it would take to make the countertop, and set the installation appointment.
Bryan came to install. He showed up on time, was friendly. With one other person, they removed our old counters, and installed the new one's. They cleaned as the went, and even though I told them our floors were being replaced next week, still took care to place mats down so they wouldn't stratch them.
Overall this experience with Rabb and Howe far exceeded my expectations. I would recommend them to anyone looking for countertops or cabinets.
I certainly recommend this family owned business.
Enter Rabb and Howe.
After I had enough of the big name stores I went on Angies List and looked up top rated countertop experts in the Indianapolis area. Rabb & Howe was one of the highest rated companies so I decided to give them a call. I booked an appointment for them to come out to the house and give us a quote. A few days later they came by, brought a TON of samples over for us to keep for awhile if needed and did some initial measurements. I could tell from the minute I met Bryan that I made the right decision. He was very knowledgeable on countertops / remodeling and was very nice. On the first meeting he gave me an estimate of what it would cost and that once I was able to put half down we could begin the process of ordering the materials and getting more detailed measurements. The quote that he gave me was CHEAPER then all the stores I had went to previously.
Knowing that it was a great deal, I paid the downpayment. They immediately ordered the material and they came out a couple days later to do detailed measurements for the countertops. Once the measurements were completed it took about a week for them to come out and install the countertops. The whole installation process took acouple of hours and was painless.
The whole process took a little over 2 weeks.
We LOVE our new countertops. It is amazing how much of a difference just changing the countertops of a kitchen can make. I would definitely recommend Rabb & Howe to anybody in the Indianapolis area looking for countertops.
Rabb and Howe consulted with us about creating a custom countertop structure to incorporate a dishwasher, a microwave/convection oven, and a specially-sized tall countertop-depth refrigerator into a back-pantry space. Our house and kitchen are original back to their construction in 1957 (right down to the boomerang formica on the kitchen countertops), and we wanted to get the utility of three 'modern' appliances without sacrificing anything original (e.g. cabinets) in the kitchen. (Over 55 years, the house had never had a dishwasher!) So we focused on an under-utilized back pantry space adjacent to the kitchen, designed the electrical/structural changes necessary, and presented our ideas to Rabb and Howe to create a supportive laminated structure for the appliances. Bryan Rabb came to the house and examined the space in conjunction with our design/plans, taking measurements for the cabinet/countertop structure so that everything would work in the small space (about 54" square) for three full-sized appliances--and even adding considerable shelving space above them. Phil Rabb (Bryan's dad) also made a trip to our home to measure and consult. For the laminate surface, Rabb and Howe actually had--in-stock--Formica's re-issue of turquoise "Skylark" boomerang laminate, which perfectly coordinated with the original 1957 "Coral Skylark" Formica surfaces in the kitchen--and which was discontinued over a year ago, only able to be had at great cost from a few other companies. (A happy coincidence: Rabb and Howe's prior mid-century custom work for David Lowery, an amazing Indianapolis mid-century conservateur [from whom we actually purchased our home], led to their small over-stock of this laminate surface, to our benefit.)
After sending off our designs on February 22, 2012, I received a text from Bryan two weeks later that the work was already done! Bryan and his cohort Tim came to the house with the custom pieces--which were like beautifully finished puzzle pieces--and had it installed within a couple hours. It was pretty much magic. Appliances showed up weeks later, and fit perfectly.
I can't imagine a more excellent conceptualization/execution of our idea. The simplicity of the structure, the practically invisible mounting, and the perfect "period" surfacing on the tops are all amazing. But the expertise from Bryan, Phil, and Tim is truly remarkable (Tim even spotted and re-glued two weak spots in our original countertops adjacent to the pantry.) We are thrilled with the outcome, and how it so precisely complements an intact period kitchen without detracting from it one bit. All we can say is: "Rabb and WOW!"
