I spoke with the company on August 25th and they said they would do the job on August 28th. They arrived late on the 28th and informed the tenant they would be back on September 2 to install the water heater. They did not show up on September 2nd and
when contacted said they had not even ordered the new unit. After considerable discussion with HMS, they stated they would charge the standard $100 deductible PLUS $75 to haul away the old tank and additional cost for any connection issues (these additional charges are never typical). They then agreed to install the water heater mid-next week. Unbelievable! I have refused service and contacted a reputable company to do the work tomorrow for the same overall expense. HMS will reimburse. I would never recommend this company even to an enemy.
My experience with this company was a NIGHTMARE!!!!! I've hired several contractors in my years of home ownership, they have all done a fair to excellent job. None so bad to write a complaint about. But I can't warn consumers enough about how horrible this one is.
I took off work the day I made the appointment to get the estimate. Jerry didn't show up until 5:00pm, I could've worked that day. Then it took 2-weeks to get a return call to schedule the work.
Then when they started they were there 12-hours the first day and 13-hours the next day and the job still was not completed. The worker would do some work then have to call his supervisor, Jerry, to come and inspect and tell him what to do next. So the work was stopped for 4-5 hours several times while waiting on the supervisor to show up. At one point, Jerry was supposed to bring the wood with him to replace the floor, but he didn't. The work was stopped again when Jerry left for 3-hours to go buy the wood, while the worker slept in his car waiting on him. The hardware store is only 10-minutes away.
They broke the knob off the hot water shut-off valve going to the sink. They broke the rubber boot seal underneath the toilet causing it to leak everything into the basement !!!! Jerry wanted me to make a claim on my home warranty before he would fix what he broke. It was a $50.00 part, I called another plumber to fix it.
They broke the sink drain pipe and ring. I had a new Moen faucet in a sealed box that had those parts in it. Jerry took the sink and my new Moen faucet home that night, said he was going to install the faucet and everything on the sink that they broke and bring it back in the morning ready to be installed. He brought the sink back, the faucet was not installed as promised. The faucet box seal was broken. When I hired another plumber to reinstall my sink. He said there were 3-parts missing out of the box, one being an expensive $20.00 part. He had a cheaper version in his truck he used to install it.
They put all their trash to include the ceramic tile they tore up in my residential trash can. They did not haul it away. As most people know, our city trash haulers are not supposed to take construction materials.
At one point the worker was using the wrong saw blade to cut through the rotted wood flooring. The house was then filled with smoke and the wood began to catch fire.
They also tore off the bottom row of wall tile, breaking most of it. Then attempted to re-glue all the broken pieces back up. So I am going to have to hire someone else to finish the trim around the edges; take off the broken pieces of tile they glued back up and by something new to put up there.
We had agreed with the worker for him to show up at 11:00 am on the 3rd day because I had to shower and leave for a funeral. My roommate then went to shower before they showed up. But, for the first time, Jerry showed up at 9:00 am. I told him to return at 11:00as agreed. His worker showed up at 11:30, not dressed to work, only to let us know that Jerry was not going to finish the job. The worker offered to come back later and finish the job on his own, for more money of course.
My roommate finally called at 2:00 pm and demanded he return my sink and faucet. He brought it back and threw it in the middle of the yard.
I found out later, Jerry is not a supervisor for a company. Jerry is the owner and his girlfriend is the secretary and he pays his workers cash under the table. There is no adherence to safety or labor laws.
I paid Jerry an initial $75.00 home warranty deductible only for him to tell me it wasn't covered. Then I paid him half, $300.00 up front. Now that he did not finish the job and I have paid another plumber he is still asking for the other $300.00.
same day to reschedule but it was passed 5:00 so I left a voice mail. The lady called me the next day and rescheduled another appointment for next Monday between 8:00 am and noon. Monday morning she called me at nine and told me that the technician is thirty minutes from my house. Fifteen minutes later she calls me back telling me that they want to charge me 2 service fees for the other appointment and when I told her that I called to reschedule and left a voice mail she said that there is no voice mail and she want to charge me $130 instead of a $100 the service fee. I refused and rejected their service for being dishonest.
On the day of our appointment, we received NO phone call to let us know Jerry would be late. He arrived around 4:15, looked at our water softener for about 5 minutes, and said he needed to order a part and would have to come back. We gave him a check for $100 service call, which was also our deductible.
After 3 days of not hearing anything, I called the office back on Thursday asking if the part had come in and if we could reschedule our appointment. The man who answered had no idea about a part and went ahead and scheduled another appointment for Monday between 10-12. After NO phone call and NO one showing up, I called at 12:40. No one answered the office phone (nor does anyone ever answer it!). I called Jerry's cell phone. He stated they had an emergency water break and had to call and cancel all appointments. He then stated they would call us tomorrow to reschedule an appointment. Because I knew no one ever answers the office phone, I requested a number from him. The number he proceeded to give me was a fax number. However, I went ahead and left a voicemail on their office phone number I found on the internet.
A lady from the office finally called back and made an appointment for Friday between 11-1. I asked her for an approximate cost of the part they needed to replace, in which she asked, "Um are they fixing your toilet?" I explained that no, they were fixing our water softener. She then told me she wasn't sure the exact cost, but an estimate would be around $600. Really? We weren't buying a new water softener, but this was besides the point.
The day of our appointment on Friday, I called at 8am and left a message (since no one ever answers) to confirm our appointment between 11-1. Of course, at 1:15 still NO one showed up! I called the office, and no one answered, so I called Jerry's cell phone. He stated, "Um, let me find out where they are and call you back." Then he hung up on me. He called back about 20 minutes later and said his tech was caught up with another job, and he could come out but it would be about 45minutes. We said fine. He showed up and "fixed" our water softener.
However, it doesn't end. A week later, our water softener is leaking again and now it had leaked into the next room. Our guest bedroom floor is now soaked. I call our home warranty people back. I requested a new business; however, the representative told us they need to have the same business come back.. They called it an emergency claim and said if the business doesn't call back to schedule an appointment within 2 hours, that we could use a different company. Of course, no response after 2 hours, so we are now waiting for a new company to fix our water softener.
