If I could give some A PLUSES I would do so. VERY reasonable charge for the paint job and extremely reasonable for repair work. Gary B. , the owner of Painting Unlimited stated that his repair work would run about 1/3 of what a handyman would run. After seeing the great job he did, I would agree with that assessment. His paint crew was great with particular kudos to JOHN, Sr. for his attention to detail and meticulous work. Gary uses Sherman Williams SuperPaint and having painted our front door myself, I'd give his choice of paint an A+ also. Our home truly looks gorgeous. Thank you, Gary and crew for an outstanding job

We are looking to list our home and therefore were looking for a provider with a low cost and quick turn around. Gary noted that he would be able to fit us in. It was a rainy week and we did not hear from him until Friday Morning. We are lucky as we were home therefore we could get him the materials. Therefore his crew had completed this work on our all in one day. During the job we found that we needed white paint around the front door, I had this on hand and they easily applied this for us. Upon the walk around at the end of the job, my husband noted a missed spot and they painted it.

We do plan to do more chaulking as we are getting ready to replace the gutters.  They did chalk were there were gaps in the wood, we are finishing by doing the edges with the siding.

We will use them again, when we can do the prep work.

Gary and his crew are outstanding. I used them for interior painting of my personal residence for the first time approx. 7 yrs. ago. Since then they've been back for other jobs. I've referred them to multiple friends who have used them and continue to use them, and are very happy with the results. Most recently we had our neighborhood clubhouse painted (interior) along, with many other items, such as drywall patching, chair-rail molding removed, wallpaper boarder removed, etc. We went thru a significant color change thru-out. The professionalism, friendliness, and outstanding job they do can be counted upon everytime. Several members of our HOA board are contemplating painting in their personal residences and will be contacting Painting Unlimited for the service. I don't get other quotes anymore; I know the pricing will be fair and the performance above expectations. Very appreciative.

This is the third time we have used Gary and Painting Unlimited. Each time, he surpasses the level of quality and service we received the previous. Gary, Marnie and their crew are incredibly courteous, prompt, thorough and quick. Pricing is extremely reasonable and fair. On top of this, the quality of their work is unmatched. Gary is truly a perfectionist and is not satisfied until you, the customer, is satisfied! I receive numerous complements on the quality of the painting from guests and others who see it. Like I said, I have used them three times and am getting ready to use them again for another project. I highly recommend Painting Unlimited to any and all!!

Gary and his team did an excellent job. The house looks great to this day. He had a crew of 3-5 workers and they completed the job in 2.5 days. I plan on using Gary again this winter for another complete home repaint.

Gary's crew was fantastic but he was extremely rude. Be prepared to be shouted at for factors that are not within your control such as the rainy weather, especially if you are female or of an ethnic minority. He was extremely menacing to me at one point and I am quite prepared to be threatened once this report is sent, so I am posting this for the record in case a police report needs to be filed!

From the estimate to the finished project, Gary Bovey and his crew were professional, couteous, and very attentive to detail. Furniture and floors were protected. Gary is extremely responsive. The results are beautiful and I would recommend them to anyone. They had previously done an excellent job on the exterior so I was confident this project would also go well.

Painting was just OK; surface prep was average. Painting work was good and crew was punctual and completed the job on time. The firm used steel nails instead of galvanized nails on the wood repair and now the rust from the nails' oxidation is showing through the paint. Gary Bovey was advised of this oversight and did not repair the work. The report was submitted late for two reasons: 1. I was not a member of Angie's list at the time of the work; and 2. The poor workmanship has become more apparent as time passed. And to be very clear, supervision was sorely lacking. I saw Mr. Bovey to sign the contract and to get paid over the week the work was in progress.
Response from PAINTING UNLIMITED LLC
"On behalf of Painting Unlimited, I wish to post a short response to his report about the work we did for him and wish to correct certain errors in that report. First, I was dumbfounded when he wrote that we completed or finished the work on June 3, 2009 or just 4 days ago. That simply is not correct. We did the work over three (3) years ago which included some exterior wood replacement and exterior painting of his large house near the lake. Our bid was the lowest he obtained and he commented that he liked the price. Second, we always use galvanized steel nails doing exterior wood replacement on any home or structure, and we used galvanized on his house more than three (3) years ago. While galvanized steel is supposed to be rust resistant, it is not rust-proof over a period of time. It is the zinc coating on galvanized steel which helps to resist rust. When the zinc coating on galvanized either gets damaged or wears off, it will corrode or rust/oxidize when exposed to the air (oxygen). That is basic chemistry. One can drive around Indiana and see plenty of rusty galvanized barn and shed roofs. I don’t know of any reputable contractor who will guarantee that galvanized will never rust or corrode. As an added precaution to help resist oxidation when performing exterior wood replacement and/or repair, we use a punch set to set all the nails and then caulk or fill the holes above the nail head. We did that on his house. Our company has a dedicated on-site manager who goes around to various jobs and makes sure things are being done right."

Gary Bovey runs the operation with a dedicated onsite manager and excellent painting crew. The estimate was generated as a result of a thorough walk through. Multiple options were presented for painting materials, small scale repair of window framing and replacement of damaged wood. As anyone knows, prep-work is key to any good painting job and a crew of about 3-4 spent most of an entire saturday getting the surfaces prepared and cracks filled. Same day 2 of 3 colors were matched to our satisfaction. The more difficult red took a bit more work but Gary did not hesitate to keep working w/us until we were satisfied with the color. Two more full work days to complete the job with a crew of about 6. All were extremely pleasent to be around and respectful of our home and surrounding landscaping and decking. No concerns at all with clean up afterwards. Bottom line, the job is top shelf and I have no concerns it will last. Nor do I have any concerns that Gary would come back out should any problems arise over the next 6-12 months. But I do not expect that will be necessary.

Gary and his crew did an excellent job. Since this was my first time ever hiring out a large job and my house which has wood siding severely needed it I wanted to be very careful. The crew showed up promptly at 8am on the day Gary told me they would. The entire job took only 2 1/2 days. They even made my gutters shine to match the tremendous work they did on my house. Its been a week since the work has been done and I have already had half a dozen complements from friends and neighbors. If you are looking to get some painting done this summer do yourself a favor and at the very least have Gary give you an estimate you will not be disappointed!

As a realtor, my clients depend upon me for recommendations of qualified companies to use. Painting Unlimited is one company that I have consistently recommended and personally used myself for over 4 years. We needed to have the entire home painted. Starting with the exterior first as interior remodeling was underway. Gary provided a reasonable quote and made recommendations for color choices. the team showed up as scheduled and completed the exterior job on time. The interior was done in phases and again, everything went according to plan, even after I changed my mind and repainted several rooms different colors. Gary Bovey's team is professional, courteous, prompt, and clean. Gary is not satisfied with the job until the customer is satisfied. He personally came back to my home after the job was completed some time back to verify that the work was to my satisfaction.

My house is 60 years old and has wood siding and trim. I told all contractors that I wanted to use the highest grade of paint available and ensure that all necessary preparation work was done so I would not have to repaint the house any time soon. The entire experience from the execution of the job, follow-up, and customer service was horrific. The contractor broke my pool filter when they were painting the house. I was inside at the time, when the owner s wife came in and told me that water was shooting out of the pool filter. I went outside and saw that the pressure gage on the filter had been broken. The contractors were working in the area at the time with ladders. I asked them if they had accidentally bumped into the filter with the ladder. They denied having done so. I called a pool contractor to repair the filter who indicated that someone must have been banged into the valve to cause the type of break that occurred.Apart from the damage to the filter, the paint job itself was sloppy and unprofessional. The contractor missed several areas of the house. I contacted the contractor who begrudgingly came out to paint the areas that I noticed. I asked them at the time to please double check everything to make sure nothing else was missed. Within a month or so the first follow-up visit, I noticed several other areas that had not been painted. I called the contractor again and told him, that I needed them to come out and paint these areas. The contractor was irritated at having to come out again. I explained that had they paid attention to the job the first time, they would not need to come out again. I also mentioned that there were several areas where the paint was already peeling and cracked. They told me that the house was old, and that happens with old house. They told me they would touch up the areas that they could, but would not guarantee that the paint would not crack and peel again. After one year of them painting the exterior of the house, paint from the trim is peeling off everywhere. I contacted another painter who indicated that house was not prepared properly, and that was the reason that the paint was peeling. The painted I contacted was shocked to learn that I had hired a professional painter to do the work. While the estimate from Painting Unlimited was the lowest, I now will be spending much more then even the highest estimate I had at the time, with the money it will cost to repaint the house and the cost of repairing the broken pool filter. Lessons learned: 1) Avoid Painting Unlimited at all costs. 2) A low estimate from a poor contractor will cost you more in the end. Follow up: Originally the service provider denied doing this work, until I provided Angie's List a copy of this invoice. The service provider advised me that I needed to replace only 1 board, which I did before they painted. The work was acceptable right after they finished. The paint failed after 1.5 years which is the reason for the delay with this report.

"IT IS VERY DISCONCERTING THAT HE WAITED ALMOST TWO (2) FULL YEARS TO EXPRESS ANY DISSATISFACTION WITH THE EXTERIOR PAINTING WORK PAINTING UNLIMITED WAS HIRED TO DO FOR HIM. WHEN I GAVE HIM AN EXTERIOR ESTIMATE BACK IN THE SUMMER OF 2007, I ADVISED HIM THAT HIS SIDING, VARIOUS AREAS OF SOFFIT, AND MANY TRIM BOARDS ON HIS 70 YEAR OLD HOME WERE DRY ROTTED AND DECAYED AND IN DIRE NEED OF REPLACEMENT. HE TOLD ME THAT HE WANTED TO SAVE MONEY AND SALVAGE THE EXISTING SIDING AND WOOD TRIM. I ADVISED HIM THAT HE WOULD EVENTUALLY HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ROTTED SIDING AND WOOD TRIM NO MATTER HOW GOOD THE PREP WORK AND PAINT JOB WAS UNLESS HE REPLACED THE ROTTED SIDING AND WOOD TRIM BEFORE PAINTING HIS HOME. AGAINST GOOD ADVICE, HE HIRED OUR COMPANY TO PREP AND PAINT HIS EXTERIOR (WITHOUT REPLACING ANY OF THE ROTTED SIDING AND WOOD TRIM). HE WAS COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH OUR WORK ( PREP WORK AND EXTERIOR PAINTING) ONCE FULLY COMPLETED IN THE SUMMER OF 2007. HE THANKED US, RAVED HOW WONDERFUL EVERYTHING LOOKED, AND HE PAID US IN FULL. THE VERY NEXT SUMMER OF 2008, HE CALLED PAINTING UNLIMITED TO COME BACK OUT TO HIS HOUSE AND GIVE HIM AN ESTIMATE TO POWER WASH AND STAIN HIS ENTIRE FENCE IN HIS BACK YARD. HE HAD NO COMPLAINTS AT THAT POINT REGARDING HIS EXTERIOR PAINT JOB. IN FACT, HE PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE CALLED OUR COMPANY TO COME BACK OUT TO GIVE ANOTHER ESTIMATE AND DO ADDITIONAL WORK IF HE WAS UNSATISFIED WITH OUR INITIAL WORK! IN FACT, TO THIS DAY, HE HAS NEVER CALLED PAINTING UNLIMITED AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE EXTERIOR PAINT JOB OR ANY OF OUR WORK AT HIS HOME. AS FOR THE ALLEGED DAMAGE TO HIS POOL FILTER, THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT IT AND IT IS TWO (2) YEARS LATER. AGAIN, IT IS VERY DISCONCERTING TO READ WHAT HE WROTE ALMOST TWO (2) FULL YEARS AFTER-THE-FACT. PAINTING UNLIMITED DOES TAKE PRIDE IN ITS WORK AND WILL ALWAYS STAND BEHIND IT AS ATTESTED TO BY HUNDREDS OF SATISFIED CUSTOMERS OVER THE YEARS. THE COMPANY’S NUMEROUS AWARDS ALSO ATTEST TO THAT FACT."

They matched to paint for the garage to the color of the siding on the house. The overhead door on the garage needed special attention because of vandals. It now looks like new. I will hire them next year to wash the house again for maintenance. They cleaned up very well behind themselves. That is important to me.

They did major kitchen, living room, and trimming in a lot of the rooms. They did such a good job. The paint quality that we selected was not that good and I wish we had realized that at first. Their prices were affordable so we felt with the quality and the price were fair. At the end of the job, they wanted us to pay more for an extra gallon of paint that we didn't feel necessary.

"On behalf of Painting Unlimited I would like to thank [member name removed] for her review. We use Sherwin Williams, Porter, Benjamin Moore, Restoration Hardware, and Pottery Barn paint. We discuss with the customer their painting needs & also their preference as to the name brand paint which they desire. Also, we make sure that there is sufficient paint leftover for future touch ups. Trim paint in particular is one that an extra gallon should be purchased for future touch ups as trim paint is almost always a custom match to the existing trim color in the home. I would be happy to discuss [member name removed] concern about the extra gallon of paint. We want our customers to be completely satisfied. Thank you."

They took the hardware off our deck doors, they did not replace it. When I questioned them about it, they said that the hardware was already gone, which it was not. My husband came home and was upset to find the hardware on our deck doors had not been replaced properly. They gave us a quote and guaranteed it would cover the deck without any problem. And when I questioned them about the coverage on one area, they said it didn't cover well enough, and that they had to use more paint than they thought they had to for the regular estimate. And if we wanted the correct coverage, we could pay $300 extra more because they had underbid the order. And those are the facts.
Response from PAINTING UNLIMITED LLC
"ON BEHALF OF PAINTING UNLIMITED, LLC, I WISH TO RESPOND TO THE COMPLAINT OF THIS MEMBER ABOUT THE DECK STAINING WORK WE DID FOR HER AND HER HUSBAND SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AT THEIR RESIDENCE. FIRST, WE NEVER REMOVED ANY HARDWARE FROM THEIR DECK DOOR AND CONSIDER THAT COMPLAINT COMPLETELY UNFOUNDED AND WITHOUT ANY FACTUAL FOUNDATION. THE ESTIMATE WAS WRITTEN ON BEHALF OF PAINTING UNLIMITED TO STAIN ONE NEW DECK AND AN OLDER DECK. THE MEMBERS APPROVED THE WRITTEN ESTIMATE WHICH CALLED FOR TWO (2) COATS OF STAIN TO BE APPLIED TO THEIR DECKS. IT WAS SHERWIN WILLIAMS DECKSCAPE STAIN AND THE MEMBER PICKED OUT THE COLOR OF THE STAIN. AFTER WE STARTED THE WORK STAINING HER DECKING, SHE CHANGED HER MIND AND SAID "OH I DON'T LIKE THAT COLOR. I WANT A DIFFERENT COLOR." IN ORDER TO PLEASE HER, WE WASTED TIME AND MONEY HAVING TO START THE DECK STAINING WORK ALL OVER AGAIN WITH A DIFFERENT COLOR. IN FACT, IN CERTAIN AREAS WE PUT ON 3 COATS OF STAIN TO ASSURE AMPLE COVERAGE INSTEAD OF ONLY 2 COATS WHICH THE WRITTEN ESTIMATE CALLED FOR. WE DID NOT CHARGE ANYTHING ADDITIONAL FOR APPLYING THREE (3) COATS OF STAIN WHICH COST APPROXIMATELY $30 PER GALLON, NOR DID WE CHARGE FOR THE ADDITIONAL TIME AND EXPENSE INCURRED DUE TO THE MEMBER'S AFTER THE WORK STARTED COLOR CHANGE. ALL IN ALL, WE USED ABOUT 17 GALLONS OF STAIN WHICH WENT SIGNIFICANTLY ABOVE THE WRITTEN ESTIMATE BUT WE DID NOT CHARGE THEM ANYTHING ADDITIONAL. AT THE END OF THE DECK STAINING WORK, THE MEMBER INSPECTED THE WORK AND ACTED QUITE HAPPY WITH IT. THEY PAID PROMPTLY AND NEVER VOICED ANY DISSATISFACTION WITH ANYTHING. PAINTING UNLIMITED, LLC"

After not wanting to take a chance picking an unknown from the phone book joined Angie's List. Choose Painting Unlimited due to high marks and that they were close. I figured less travel time would allow them to get on the job quicker. Came the next day but made the estimate without me being there. When I called with a question they answered promptly. Estimate seemed reasonable and actually less then what I figured. Kind of surprised they were able to paint it in 2 days considering it was their busy time. Took 1 day to paint. Completely cleaned up. Only complaint I have is that they didn't ask me if I wanted the trim painted to match the cutters (which they did) or the dark contrast that it presently was. I was kind of surprised they would paint it different than it presently was. It did make the house look better. The lighter color would likely not fade as quickly. Seems like they are taking the chance that their change would be OK.

Gary came out the day after I called him to provide an estimate. He broke it down so I could pick and choose which rooms, ceilings, closets, etc. to have painted and still stay in my budget. Once I approved the estimate, he sent one of his guys out to start prep work the next day! They wrapped my new cabinets in plastic sheeting, so I didn't have to worry about any paint getting on them. The quality of work was very good. Gary's employees were pleasant and respectful of my home.

I arranged an appointment for an estimate with Gary, the owner. Mark came out at the scheduled time, looked around, took some notes, and then emailed an estimate to me the next day. We weren't sure how much we could afford to paint so he broke down the estimate by room so we could choose which we wanted them to paint. He said it would take 3 days to finish. They won the bid hands down and began within 2 weeks. Mark and Jeffrey showed up right on time. They were very professional, helpful, and obviously cared about their work. They finished by 4 PM the third day and the place looked great. They agreed to come back and paint the baseboards after the flooring company installed the hardwood floors. And they charged exactly what Mark had estimated. They said it was a fairly easy job because the house was empty; we only used one wall color, and because we were ripping out the flooring afterwards so they didn't have to be as neat, but I'd definitely recommend them.

Their crew was good to work with and very respectful in the home. They were also very helpful and quick to answer questions or concerns. This was a job that had to be completed quickly before a move in and Gary was great in arranging his schedule to accommodate. We also did several add-ons on the exterior of the home which they completed while they were on the job. They also came back quickly to address some final touch ups.
