The day of the move: The 2 movers showed up early because they were in the area. I thought this was a good sign - wrong! There was an older man and a young man, both related, neither were armed forces or firefighters. The older man kept making the young guy do everything. One person cannot do a job alone. The older man spent his time openly cursing and complaining about his supposed days off, working long hours, how could his bosses do this to him....in front of me and my family. The older man kept calling his work office on his cell phone and not moving my stuff - the young man had to keep things moving. My sister asked the young guy why the older one treated him this way and why was he doing all the work, and the young guy said he was paying his dues.
They finally got the truck loaded in 3 hours - way too long. I had a 2 bedroom partment and everything was packed up! My family and I got to the new address, but the truck didn't show up for over an hour. The movers took an unscheduled and unknown dinner break. We thought they got lost! I kept trying to call them and their office and nobody answred. They show up and they are only taking a few boxed up and down the elevator lift on the back of the truck at a time. It was taking forvere! Again, the old guy was barking orders while the young guy did everything. The young guy kept apologizing to me because I was so angry. I couldnt get thr office on the phone to complain. My family, to include my 63 yr old mom, had to jump in and start moving my boxes or we would have been there until midnight. Then they have the nerve to charge me full price and for that time the older guy did nothing. I left messages on their office phone all weekend. I finally got ahold of a an office assistant who felt bad and said a manager would call me right back. It took another 4 days for the manager to call me back. The ONLY thing they would do was to return $100, nothing more for all of the time and work MY family did doing THEIR job.
I got the chech in the mail for $100 2 weeks later and put it in a drawer because I still had boxes everywhere in my new house. I just cashed that check and it BOUNCED!!! Insufficient funds!!!! What kind of business is this? Not only did it bounce, but I got charged a $15 fee for the bad check.
BE VERY CAREFUL if you decide to use this business. I think they need to be invested for bad practices. I have left messages and am still trying to recover my money.

There were some factors that occurred that day that were by no means your fault and our crew chief that day definitely did not handle them appropriately or professionally. As far as our company, we do not claim to all be firefighters or veterans. Our company is owned by firefighters and veterans and they do still operate in the day-to-day business operations. We also have a fair amount of firefighters and veterans that work for us but we by no means advertise a 100% veteran or service member staff. Again, I apologize for the mix up. As for the check, our checks are cut straight from Chase bank and cannot be written if we do not have the amount in our account as they are immediately taken out of our account. They act more as a money order than a check. Since it is a business check, it is typically only good for 30 days. I'm assuming this was issue you had with the check was the delayed deposit time. We would still be willing to communicate with you to see if there may be a possibility of a resolution. At the very least, we would be glad to provide discounted services in one of our other divisions. We do strive for better experiences for our customers and we apologize we did not follow through for you on this day."

"Mam, we are the first to admit when we are responsible for a mistake. Should that have been the case here, we'd be happy to work our a fair resolution to make you happy; however, in fairness, that is not the case here. I'm the owner and I'm the representative that fielded your phone calls. As you mentioned, we discussed our rate for two movers, which is $100/hr for two movers on labor only moves, as well as mentioning our $50 fuel charge. However, we definitely discussed our two hour minimum. We talked over two different conversations. On the first phone call, we worked through what you needed and after discussing the aforementioned rates, I then informed you of the two hour minimum, at which time, you mentioned needing to check something and would call back. I also fielded your second call, reaffirmed the two hour minimum, at which time you asked for verification of our pricing and conversation. That is when I directed you to our Pricing Page, the tab of which is built into every page on our website attached to the header labeled Pricing. I informed you that the Pricing Page lists our policies on labor only moving and our two hour minimum. Before getting off the phone, I confirmed if you wanted to keep the appointment and you confirmed the appointment. Unfortunately, given that it's listed on our Pricing page and I mentioned it over multiple phone calls, I'm not sure how in this instance we could have been more upfront about this policy."

I just updated my rating on this move from a B to an A. You really learn about people and companies when things go wrong, not necessarily when things go right. The story I originally listed is below, but afterwards, I got a call from Moving Dawgs. They were really working to learn from what happened. I was told they were using my experience as further training for their crews, and they offered me discounted service on a future need. I just hired them to move a bedroom and dining room set that I bought. They gave me a meaningful discount on the move to make things right and the move went off without a hitch.
You have to love people that own their mistakes and strive to improve!

I really struggled with this rating because I wanted to give them an A, but just couldn't:
Positives:
Prompt
Charged what they said
Courteous
Nothing broken
They fit me in on short notice by splitting the move between two days, which I really appreciated
Negatives:
Just one. Even though they came and estimated the job in person, they ran out of room on the truck. Thankfully they took all the really big heavy stuff and it was a short move. Basically they took almost no boxes of our things. I spent a large part of the weekend shuttling back and forth in a pickup truck, loading and unloading over a dozen times to get things moved. It was not a huge problem for me since it was a short move, but what if I was moving 100 miles instead of 2? I would have also liked for them to have said, hey we made a mistake and we will make a second trip or we will finish the job tomorrow or the next day and only charge you the additional labor. Something other than, sorry the truck is full so we are done.
Again, for everything they moved, it was an A rated experience. I also realize that things can stack in a truck differently and they may have miscalculated the room they would need. My issue is they left it as my problem when they left versus proactively figuring out how to help me finish the move.
I think that this sort of thing can be fixed by revisiting their own business processes and how they instruct the crews, but for now, I felt a B was fair.

You are spot on that there was a breakdown in the process and we are covering this situation, as well as what should have been done, with every mover, manager and owner to make sure we are all on the same page moving forward. Unfortunately, this learning opportunity for our company came at your expense and for that we are terribly sorry. You were not wrong to expect the company you hired to take the initiative and find a helpful and warranted solution to the problem that arose during the move. We offer no excuse and only promise to do our part in fixing it moving forward. It's disappointing because it's moments like that which can separate Excellent service from Good Enough service. We always want to fall on the side of excellence and again, apologize that we did not meet that opportunity with A Quality Service. We would love the opportunity to make this up to you, perhaps with a discounted service from one of our other divisions. Long story short, We needed to move all of the contents of my 2 bedroom condo in Avon AND a storage unit near the condo to an old house in broadripple. They were prompt, professional, and they worked their tails off getting all of the furniture inside an old 3 story home built in 1929! Bill and his crew were awesome and worth every penny! Thanks again guys and keep up the great work!!!
