+ 0 moreLarry performed all he was hired to do with the skill of a craftsman. We threw in new stuff at him almost daily, including extra trim work and making a new hearth for the fireplace. He was more than willing to make adjustments. Some of them cost extra, as they should have. The changes added time to his labor. He was happy to work with us on all of our changes and stuck with us to the end. He was also very fair about the increases in cost. I would not describe Larry's charges as cheap, but you get what you pay for, and Larry delivers on quality. I have plans to use Larry again, so will update as necessary. For now, I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Hired to demo part of kitchen cabinets to open up kitchen and dining room/family room, trim out kitchen cabinets, and install hardwood flooring in large room and entryway.

+ 0 moreWe hired Larry to do some alterations on our kitchen wall, so that we could install a new wall mount oven to replace the one that died after about 30 years of service. We couldn't find an oven that was the same size as the one we were replacing, and we couldn't go larger, as there was no room. So, the new oven was slightly smaller than the one that we took out. However, the design of the new oven was such that it required a larger opening than was already there. So, we hired Larry to change the size of the opening to accommodate the new oven. Larry mismeasured the new oven, and cut the opening larger. He realized what he had done, so now he had to add wood to the sides of the opening. He claims he couldn't match the wood grain, so he added wood and stained it the same color. We were not satisfied at all, but we were tired of being without an oven. So, we settled with him by reducing the final payment.
Description of Work: Larry changed the size of an opening in our kitchen wall for a new wall mounted oven to replace won that quit working and couldn't be fixed.

+ 2 moreMy experience with them was good. They knew what they were doing, knew everything about it. They were handymen and do different types of jobs around the house and they understood everything insisted, so they did a good job.
Description of Work: I used Larry Shoffner Independant Construction and did kitchen remodel and installed new cabinets, electrical, handyman-type services. They ended up taking out the cabinets and did the electrical and re-vented my air vents in the kitchen.

Description of Work: He came out to give an estimate for wood siding replacement and painting. He is also going to repair the mortar and replace the frame around a window. We have about 13 casement windows in our house that don't close all the way, so he is going to remove the windows and re-plane them, as well as replace the cranks. He will repair the sliding glass door in our house by replacing the wheels.

I couldn't be more pleased w/ the way this turned out. I've been getting estimates since November w/ very confusing and ridiculously expensive suggestions. If I had called Larry first, I could have saved myself a lot of time and frustration. I hope to have Larrys help in the future for my next home improvement project.

+ -1 moreLarry is the only one out of three carpentry companies I contacted to respond. Basically, I have some rotten wood trims outside my house and need someone to repair. Larry first came out to investigate the extent of the damages. Then, he came out again to walk me through the repairs required. Based on his investigation, I realized the damges were extensive and hence I decided to hire a painting company to repair all the wood trims and repaint the house entirely. If the damages were less extensive, I would have hired Larry.

+ -1 moreI couldn't really ask for better. Larry arrived on the days promised. He did a great job at a price that was fair and completed the job in a reasonable time. . He was friendly, honest and very considerate of my property. This is the 2nd job he has done for me so I had no qualms about paying a deposit before he started the job. I will be hiring him again for other projects in the future. It is a great comfort to know someone to call who will be honest with you, charges a fair price and does good work.
Description of Work: My garage had an overhang eve over the overhead door. I noticed some shingles were off then it was found that the heavy overhang structure had come loose and was ready to fall from the garage. Larry arrived on the day he said he would. He gave me an estimated price range since we wouldn't know the extent of the problem until tearing into it. After he took the shingles and top decking off, he showed me that the problem was worse than I had hoped. He explained that the overhang had been built without flashing and not fastened properly. Rain had gotten behind the wood and rotted the garage wood siding where the overhang had been attached. He brainstormed a few solutions for me to choose from, explaining pros and cons and he answered my questions. The original plan had been to refasten the overhang and put new shingles over it. However, the rotten wood turned it into a bigger project. Due to a tight budget, I chose not to rebuild the overhang for now. I selected the lower cost solution which was to cut out the rotten strip of wood siding and replace it with a proper (header?) board. The board had a metal edging added on it to deflect rain and he caulked it. This solution protects the garage from further weather damage, looks good, and provides the proper foundation board if I rebuild a new overhang onto it in the future.

+ 0 moreI spent about $200 for the chimney repair. As far as I know, the job has been fine and there have been no leaks yet. Larry Shoffner has been out before as well. He didn’t do the painting, but he did the repair work prior to the painting. He is close to where we live. He is very prompt. He also came out and fixed it the same day. I don’t know about the price since I didn’t get any other estimates. He is very responsive. I would definitely use his services in the future too.
Description of Work: Larry Shoffner did chimney repair for us sometime in the spring. We had some roof leaks and he did something. So, it seems like it has stopped now. We had our house painted a few years ago. So, he did some preliminary work on repairing some of the siding before painting about 3 or 4 years ago.

I would have been liked him to be more proactive in looking for boards. I actually had to call him back because there were some more boards. His price was fine.
