Had a 27" RCA TV that stopped turning on. Lane TV was listed on the RCA support site, so I called them. I took the TV to them, and they charged $30 to look at it, even if I chose not to have them repair it. If they do the repair work, the $30 comes off of the final bill. They called me within a day with a repair and time estimate. They called me when it was done (a little earlier than estimated). I gather that the $30 fee I paid varies depending on your TV. They can also come to you if necessary. Overall did a good job. Nothing incredibly impressive, but no problems either. About 2/3 of the cost was labor.

I disliked them and felt like they were dishonest. I called them, I'm having problems with my TV and I wanted to get it diagnosed. They said I could bring it in or they could come out for a service call. When they got here, I turned the TV on to describe it, they said they had to take the TV into the shop to diagnose it. It would cost $180 plus parts to take it into the shop to get it diagnosed. I felt like they were dishonest- I had to pay him to come out and he did nothing. I had already described the problem to the person over the phone. I paid the service call charge, and it shows that they are incompetent. Other TV repair companies have come out and diagnosed it at my home. This seems like a gimmick to me- after they took the $75 for coming out, they want another $180 plus money for parts. The price for the service call was broken down in two parts- $55 for coming out and $20 for the diagnosis. I didn't pay the $20 for the diagnosis, and paid them the $55 to get of out my house.
Response from LANE TV & APPLIANCES
"THE MEMBER CALLED US ON AUGUST 3, 2006. THE MEMBER SAID THAT HER TV SET WAS POPPING. WE TOLD HER SHE COULD BRING THE TV IN IF SHE WOULD LIKE TO. THE ESTIMATE CHARGE WOULD BE $30.00. IF SHE HAD THE TV REPAIRED THE ESTIMATE CHARGE WOULD BE APPLIED TO THE REPAIR BILL. IF WE COME TO THE HOME THE SERVICE CALL WOULD BE $55.00 FOR THE TRIP AND A MINIMUM CHARGE OF $20.00 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS IF SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE TV REPAIRED. THE MEMBER WANTED THE TECHNICIAN TO COME TO HER HOUSE. THE MEMBER'S TV WAS AN RCA 35" TV ABOUT 8 TO 10 YEARS OLD. THE MEMBER TURNED THE TV ON FOR THE TECHNICIAN, AT THIS TIME THE MEMBER WANTED THE TECHNICIAN TO TELL HER WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE TV AND WHAT THE COST WOULD BE FOR THE REPAIR, BEFORE HE HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT IT. THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE BACK OFF AND SEE IF HE COULD TELL MORE. THE TECHNICIAN DID TELL THE MEMBER THAT IF THE TV HAD TO GO IN TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR THE CHARGE WOULD BE $179.00 PLUS PARTS. THIS WOULD INCLUDE THE SERVICE CALL, THE PICK UP AND DELIVERY AND THE SHOP LABOR. THE MEMBER WOULD NOT LET THE TECHNICIAN TAKE THE BACK OFF TO SEE IF HE COULD GIVE HER A BETTER DIAGNOSIS OR REPAIR THE TV IN THE HOME. SO HE CHARGED HER THE SERVICE CALL FOR THE TRIP."
