We chose Brad because we have worked with him several times previously. He has always exhibited the exemplary qualities we report in connection with this job. In fact, we trust his character and the quality of his work to such a degree that we did not seek a second estimate on this project. Brad was excellent in all respects. He responded quickly to our initial expression of interest. He prepared a prospectus that gave us several options with respect to specific parts of the project. He was honest about when he could actually begin work. His presence in our home was as unobtrusive as it could be and his work left almost no extra clean up for us along the way or at the end. He kept us fully informed as to developments, questions, and issues. When we wanted to make minor changes along the way, he was adaptable. Best of all, his work is superb. Brad is a perfectionist who likes for everything to be just right. He takes great care. In the end, we got exactly the room we wanted in the confidence that he had given optimum attention to every part of the job. The job included adding additional insulation throughout the third floor, replacing the windows, redoing the walls with fresh drywall, installing additional lighting and electrical outlets, sanding and finishing the original attic flooring, replacing all the trim, and painting. A room which had felt like a dim junk storage locker is now a bright, airy, light study and library.

I was continually asked more money funds for concrete sealer, jack hammer rental). The front step removal/creation was sub-ed out to a "concrete person" and he chose 2 steps versus 3 for the new front steps. This was a mistake; the front steps should have been 3 for consistent sized steps. To remove the old steps, the "concrete person" didn't own a jack hammer to remove the old steps which seems unreasonable for the "concrete person" not to own his own jack hammer.
Response from KOHLMEYER REMODELING
"I'm surprised to read this C grade review. I have photos and documents showing a different perspective on this particular job. Unfortunately, Angie's List doesn't seem to allow me to upload them here. I would be happy to email them to anyone that might be interested. To begin with, the customer asked us to mimic her existing 2 steps on the side of her porch. Only difference was that the new steps were to be 4' wide instead of 3' wide as were the existing existing steps. The number "2" is clearly stated in the estimate. I never saw or heard the word 3 until reading this review. [Member Name Removed] saw the new steps before paying the statement and never mentioned this until now. As a matter of fact, she complimented us texting, "thank you for all your efforts". which I still have a copy of. When her original steps were removed, there was an extremely large boulder that the steps had been poured over. It was impossible to break up without the use of a jackhammer as mentioned. This unforeseen and unanticipated problem was not part of the original scope of work. The subcontractor that was hired does smaller jobs, such as these steps. He does not own a jackhammer as it is rarely needed for this type of work. Had I hired a larger company to do these steps, they might have had a jackhammer on hand but these larger companies tend to charge quite a bit more and I was trying to save her some money on this small project. He did remove the existing steps, but could not break up the underlying boulder In addition, we also repaired a rear porch slab that should actually have been removed and re-poured. When I arrived to do the job, it had deteriorated quite a bit more than when I originally did the estimate. I told her that I would need to buy an additional bag of patching material to fix the porch at this point, but that I wouldn't add to the labor costs. She texted "Sure I'll pay for the extra material". (No complaints until now.) In short, she was only charged for the materials actually used, no addl. labor was charged for the originally estimated amount of work. I have receipts and photos if anyone is interested. I would love to show everyone the before and after photos and all documentation on this job as I was very pleased with the results. Please email me!"

Brad communicated well during the entire process and worked to make sure it was done in professional manner and to my satisfaction. Great guy with a great work ethic. Would hire him again in a minute and will for any future home repairs, maintenance issue.

Brad was great. He responded quickly to our request for an estimate. His estimate proved to be accurate. He scheduled the work to begin quickly, and actually, began the work several days before he had anticipated. All work was satisfactorily completed in a timely manner. Brad is exceptionally respectful of time, space, and cleanliness (leaving the work site cleaned up). He has a great spirit to go long with excellent skill.

Brad did an excellent job.  He tackled a list of things we needed done on our home to get it ready for sale, and was very nice about adding requested tasks along the way.  He listened to what we wanted and made good suggestions. He always cleaned the areas after working.  He was nice enough to take out the squeak from our back door!  We would definitely use him again.

Working with Brad was a pleasure. He gave us an accurate estimate in a very timely fashion. He performed the work when he said he would. He charged us what he estimated. In other words, he was the exact opposite of most of our dealings with contractors and handy-people in the past. We plan to use him as our permanent repair/remodel/carpenter agency.

We got four extimates for our work. There were different ideas of how to repair our problem. However, Kohlmeyer's seemed to make the most sense to us and was reasonably priced. They were able to get to the job quickly and get it done in 2 days. They were polite, ontime, and did quality, neat work. We will use this company again for other work.

Brad was always very responsive, from the bid process throughout all the work and even with follow-up afterward. The tile sub-contractor that he used was not very conscientious, I made them re-do many parts. However, Brad was always willing to make things right. Overall, the tile contractor was the only part that was less than great.

Brad is extremely responsive. I called him about installing some handrailings, because I am of a certain age and there are a lot of concerns with falling. He came out the very day to do the installation. There was one time when he painted my home and I thought that he did such a good job that I tipped him and his crew an extra two hundred dollars. He is a very good and bright man. He has a reasonable price for the work that he does.

There is nothing he hasn't done for me. Painted, installed doors, garage door, did my whole basement over with preventative board to keep water from coming in. He put in cabinetry, plastered a ceiling, installed lights. He's done everything. Price reflects when he fixed leak in my cedar shake roof. He was the 4th person to look at the leak. He used the same cedar shakes after he fixed the leak. I had previously spent $1,000 trying to fix this.
