In the beginning it did not go so well, but, after speaking with Mr. Doug Moore on the phone, things with beautifully.
Our carpet was only 2.5 years old and my wife and I noticed it was wearing very badly in certain areas. I called Kerman's and they sent out very polite young man out to inspect the carpet. He told me he would give his report to his supervisor and we would be hearing from them about what they planned to do. Originally we were told there was nothing Kerman's could do for us and that it was a manufactures issue. I was not satisfied with that and called back and spoke with Doug. Doug came and looked at our carpet and agreed with us that it most currently was wearing and should not be doing so after only 2.5 years. He said he would talk to the owners and see what they could do. After a couple of days Doug called us and told us that Kerman's was going to replace the carpet at no charge. A crew came out along with Doug on April 18th and replaced the carpet in a very professional and timely matter. The carpet looks wonderful and my wife and I are very happy.
I would recommend Kerman's Flooring for anyone who is looking to have their flooring replaced. They do a great jog and are very courteous and professional.
My hat is off to Doug Moore and the owners of Kerman's Flooring! Thank You!
One of the carpets was a stair runner and the measurement or cut of the carpet is just slightly off such that it does not entirely cover the whole area that the previous runner did. We had to paint over nail holes so they are not visible.
At one point, the installers showed with no carpet to install! They thought they were there to pick up the old dye lot, but in fact, the carpet was sitting at the warehouse. After an hour or two, they did come back with the carpet. On the last day of install, the installers were at our house until almost midnight! We asked what could be done for all of the inconveniences that we were put through (i.e. price adjustment). Our salesperson was responsive and most likely did as much as he could have done, but we felt like the company in general blamed the whole ordeal on the mill. We did not feel as though Kermans valued customer service or us as repeat customers. Kermans was not willing to make any further adjustments that would cut into their profit margins. The entire job was supposed to take less than a week. We dealt with issue after issue for over a month, having to rearrange work schedules, tiptoe around nails on tack strips/carpet padding, maneuver around stacked furniture, etc. Companies that value customer service are sometimes willing to sacrifice profits to right a wrong, but in this scenario, Kermans was not willing to do so.
"Through a series of issues which did involve improper construction of the customer's carpet at the Carpet Manufacturer's Mill as well as difficulties with coordinating the installation in response to waiting on the Mill's replacement carpet, we sincerely apologize for the inconveniences to the customer. In review with our Salesperson as noted in the customer comments, he did everything he could do throughout the job to overcome the issues. Kermans has been in business since 1921 and has built its reputation on customer service. Knowing we aren't flawless and problems are going to occur from time to time, it's the efforts we make and what we strive to do when mistakes happen that make the difference. In this case, the Salesperson worked extremely close with the customer in addressing each situation including favorable pricing considerations given at the outset of the sales as well as after the sale. Thank you, Kermans Flooring"
"[Member Name Removed], Thank you for taking the time to help us with items where we fell short on providing you with an area of service that we take pride in offering to our customers. The fact that you were pleased with our quality, responsiveness, and punctuality but fell short on the added extras which complete an outstanding performance is extremely troubling to me and will be addressed. As an owner, I’ve always maintained that mistakes can happen, but it’s how we respond to those mistakes that defines us. We have always been a company who uses sub-contractors for our installations which can from time to time present its own set of challenges. Unless there was confusion where our Field Technicians who are our employees were asked to be involved, I will get to the bottom of why you were given information to the contrary. In the meantime, the details you described which were missed will be addressed with my managers in an effort to assure that proper corrections are made. It’s caring people like yourself who take the time to offer a critique that helps us keep focused on every detail required to create successful installations. I am taking appropriate action. Thank you again for your help, Dave"
"It was a pleasure taking care of your flooring needs and we will continue to exceed your expectations. Your patronage and feedback are a vital part of our growth. And for that, we are most grateful. We look forward to serving your flooring needs for many years to come. Best regards, Shirley Kermans Flooring"
My wife and I went to their store and were impressed with the large selections and well-organized displays. Greg Pope, Sales Consultant helped us in the store on two different visits, gave samples to take home. When we identified the product we wanted, he gave us a rough estimate of the cost, and arranged to come to our home to take measurements. This lead to a detailed written estimate with various options that we had discussed..
We contacted him with our decisions, and he prepared a detailed contract, sent it via email for our convenience and scheduled the installation for about two weeks later.
The installers arrived on time and were efficient and professional. They moved the appliances that we had agreed upon. They did a great job! Left the vinyl that had been trimmed, but not used--so we would have some for repairs or other purposes. They were finished with the day, reattaching the appliances, etc.
It was the sales associate at the store. This female was not very good about follow up or keeping in touch. Both my friend and I were going to order more carpeting and she never called us back to follow up. Basically seemed uninterested. We decided to go to Blakley's and glad we did. Great service there.
We will not be going to Kermans's in the future. I think they staff needs a training on customer service.
Dear Mr. Amsler;
I want to address with you a multitude of issues with the
people that were at my home and the installation that occurred.
The supervisor that
came on Monday did not inspect the floors to assure that is was ready or needed
extra work for the upcoming installation.
In fact he started to leave after standing in the kitchen for a couple of
minutes and asking me what rooms were to be done. I pointed to the library,
living room and where we were. He was grabbing the door handle and leaving and
I said did you need to see upstairs. He indicated he didn't know that it was to
be done as well. Upstairs is where he spent his time socializing and talking
about his previous dogs and all of his neighbors dogs and their various names.
In fact I finally had to tell him I had things to do.
On that Tuesday the installers showed up 2 hours later that
was agreed upon.
The supervisor came shortly afterward and delayed them for
quite some time. I was in my office and seen 2 of them out front leaning on
their car. I started listening to the conversation inside with the supervisor
and found that it was just gossip. I stepped out of my office and indicated
that I had taken off work for the flooring to be installed and it was costing
me money while they were socializing. The supervisor ask me if I felt that I
needed to be there and I said yes, it was quite rude of him to ask.
The men requested to bring product in through the garage, I
told them it was full. I suggested they use the back door and front door. They
said they needed to go through the garage so I moved my car across street to
the neighbors house. I found them later loitering and socializing in my garage,
they had no business in an area they weren't working in. They were viewing what
I had in the garage, at that point it became trespassing.
I am not happy with the pattern in which they laid the
flooring. It is in a close stair step pattern with places just 2 1/2 inches
apart.
Multiple places the flooring has come up. I did notice that
the installers were stripping the paper off the floor planks several boxes at a
time. Many times it would set there all day as well as into the next day
collecting dust and dog hair from my dog that would come home that evening as
they left.
The register hole is cut small, not allowing for the cover to
be put in place.
The installers wasted my time and money needlessly due to
taking off work as that strangers would be in my house, in that they took
multiple excessive brakes and socializing. I talked to friends that are police
officers, they indicated that their behavior is consistent with drug addicts.
They ask me if I wanted a possible arrest or my floor finished. I opted for the
floor to get finished and that is when your company man came on Friday.
I had pointed out to this same man from Kerman's which came
on that Friday that the laminate transition strip from the entry to the library
had been placed to far forward and the tile was chip as a result of the
installers scraping the old glue off of the tile. He said it was already
chipped. I wasn't interested in arguing with him. I had placed and removed
the old strip, it was not chipped. The chips and old glue line are visible, it
looks bad.
This same man was cleaning up a dirt and flower mess where it
was knocked over as a result of the installers. My personal contractors had
come over to look at a hump covered up by the installer and indicted that
something was going on with my large potted flowers outside so I investigated.
The man said oh it's fine and I said no it's broke, he said no it isn't and I
pointed out a large break in the pot.
The stair nose strip has circular scratches where the
transition strip is from the nails driven in. This same man, the installer and
I were looking at it and nothing was said in hopes that I just didn't care or
notice. I had pointed out that the wrong type/shape of transition strip had
been laid and was not run under the door jam where the hall and an upstairs
bath is.
I'll get to the point, my experience with this man was that
he was to smooth things over and get out. I
saw a lack of honesty and integrity in this man that was representing
Kerman's in an effort to cover up and ignore the truth.
There are gaps in the flooring, I see black adhesive
stripping below. I had pointed this out to Brad Moore and he indicated that the
flooring would expand and fill in the gaps. I did indicate that dirt and water
would get in there and cause problems with the adhesive.
I SPECIFICALLY told the installer which toilet they were to
use. I was in my office below my bedroom where they were finishing up on
Friday. I heard a large crash noise but due to a business call I was attending
to I could not leave to investigate. The men finished and left. I went
upstairs and saw where they had trespassed into my private bath and dressing
rooms area. I had a 7ft. Armored statue, large tree, doors, wall safe, hardy
backer boards for upcoming tile job and other items blocking the entrance. They
had gone into that area and left the toilet seat up, knocked over the statue
damaging it by denting, bending and scratching paint. As a result the
counter-top was chipped, corners of the hardy backer boards were broken off, a
limb knocked off the tree and knocked off items on the jacuzzi. I will not
divulge the various items that they may
have touched and gone through. I am DEEPLY OFFENDED and stressed that
they trespassed into a private area where they were not allowed. They
are disrespectful of peoples instruction, time and property. After sending this letter, Mr. Amsler, one of the owners came to the house and said he believe the gaps were a manufacturing problem and was going to send out a representative from Armstrong. The rep came out and tried to blame it on the house temperature saying it was to cold and cause the flooring to shrink and yet he countered what he said and admitted that the product does not expand or contract after I pointed out that the flooring was that way since the 84 degree day that it was installed however my house temp. was 74. I had several contractors look at it and they say it is clearly a bad install job. I have 2 floors that need replaced and the damage paid for replacement. Kerman's was unwilling to replace, own up to the damages caused with compesation and threated to put a lein on my property. I paid two thirds of the bill up front and they are wanting the last third. Its going to cost alot more than the original job now to remove the flooring of bad installation and replace correctly, remove the tile they damaged and replace and the other damages.
"Review response: [member name removed] Dear [member name removed] As you are aware, we responded to your concerns several months ago. Regretfully, you declined our attempts to bring resolution. In two written correspondence we indicated the following: "The inspection by the distributor Rep who was authorized by Armstrong to represent their product concluded that there was neither a manufacturer's defect nor performance of the product that equated to improper installation" In the same correspondence, attempting to continue to work with you in spite of the manufacturer's findings we wrote the following: If you feel as though the findings of the person representing the manufacturer are in error and would like to have this floor re-examined by another inspector approved and authorized by the manufacturer, we will support your decision" We also wrote: "We secured Sherwin Williams to color match and stain wood transitions to replace the existing transitions in question and arranged to have our scheduling department set up a time for installation and should there be a spot where the vinyl may have released, we will address it" In addition, we wrote: "In response to the request to have Kermans compensate you for certain issues pointed out which involved damaged material, repair and loss of personal time during the process of installation, we offered a monetary deduction from your remaining balance" We regret your experience and apologize and continue to express our desire to work toward bringing resolution to your concerns."
Quality: Kermans to date has been to my home five times to REPAIR their initial wood install which was done with seemingly countless errors such as: too much spacing near the wall for shoe moulding to cover the gap, CHIPS in the wood where staples were used, screws in the MIDDLE of a board in the middle of my hallway covered by wax that didn't match the wood color, nails sticking up preventing shoe moulding from being flush with the floor, boards that were not level with other boards and edges of boards that were visible and discolored compared to the color of the floor. FIVE TIMES they have been here and they are STILL NOT FINISHED. I am considering suing them for such poor performance. When they called to collect the remaining balance, they told me they would put a lien on my house if I did not pay. A LIEN ON MY HOUSE for this type of work. This is the most insulting, absurd and audacious move they could have made after disrespecting my family and home as they have. Lori Nash is my sales agent and I do not recommend.
When carpet was installed, the subcontractors scratched the new wood floor, and left carpet shreds all over my driveway which of course blew into my grass and looked awful in the lawn. Additionally these installers left shreds of carpet all over the doorways where the carpet met the wood. THANKS!
Responsiveness and Punctuality: Simply said, waited weeks to hear from their and quot;schedulingand quot; department after numerous calls which of course go to voicemail. The repair team was always late, and even canceled on several occasions. So here I am going on almost five months since inception, and the work is still not done. In fact, I received a call this morning that said they were canceling my appointment this morning at 10:30a to install the shoe moulding. CANCELING THE APPOINTMENT FIVE MONTHS OUT. This is absolutely the worst service responsiveness anyone could expect. They obviously have no sense of urgency in resolving my situation.
Professionalism: Aside from the incredibly poor responsiveness and punctuality, I had their installers here smelling awful and literally throwing out derogatory comments and curse words of the worst kind while working. They left my doors open despite pets, and on one particular repair day, the repair guy Mark left without even mentioning it to me and also left a window open in the middle of winter and pulled the batteries out of two smoke detectors in the children's rooms of the house WITHOUT TELLING ME.
This experience was, and continues to be, awful. I will not be spending a dollar more with Kermans, ever. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND.
"In response to your critique on April 4th, I have reviewed our performance and have a good understanding of what took place and the mistakes that were made. For what you experienced, I'm embarrassed to say we definitely performed poorly and offer you my sincere apology. In review of the overall installation in order to add clarity but not minimize the experience, I summarize the discovery as follows: The initial difficulty was directed to a particular area in your home where we were installing hardwood and was attributed to one specific hardwood installer from the crew used throughout your home. The lack of careful clean up and the hardwood scratch during the carpet install was the result of carelessness which was responded to and resolved. Service for the hardwood issues did require multiple visits in which there was communication breakdown in coordinating your availability as well as errors made in our scheduling department. The lien was a result of our accounting department policy for past due amounts was specific only to the money owed for the carpet install which was complete and didn't reflect any hardwood issues still being addressed. Even though the largest majority of our customers experience service that affords us the highest of rating on Angie's List, from time to time mistakes happen. Unfortunately, you experienced the exception where more than one breakdown occurred. In spite of these errors, we did persist and take quite seriously our efforts to make corrections to resolve issues. During a communication mistake with scheduling near the end of the job, our Service manager recognized an error in scheduling and rather than re-schedule insisted on correcting the issue right on the spot of which you expressed your appreciation. Although this effort seems minor in the scheme of things, it did demonstrate that our employees care about being responsible and accountable and remain diligent in their effort to satisfy customers. As a result of this experience, we supplied and installed your 1/4 round trim at no charge, took back several cartons of wood you decided not to use at no charge, and took the following actions to help pervent situations like this from re-occurring: Removed the hardwood installer in question, corrected the policies and procedures involving the carpet installer, and instituted changes to our scheduling process."
Which I did. I was back at the store again last Tuesday and told the story to Lori, who said she had looked at the warranty ( I got the feeling that she already knew that something was wrong!) and had even checked the online version, but could only find a and quot;recommendationand quot; to clean the carpet every 2 years ( think she said she found that on page 57 of the online version). She offered to call back to Karastan and also talk to the her bosses.
She called me back today and told me that there really wasn't much Kerman could do for my, because it was my responsibility. Somehow she now she changed her mind and also seems to believe that the cleaning wasn't a recommendation, but a requirement for warranty. She said that I should have looked at the online version when I bought the carpet (which I don't even know if they had that already 5 years ago).
Her boss could offer me a and quot;spectacularand quot; discount of 15 - 20% on a new carpet. I don't know what was so and quot;spectacularand quot; about this offer, but that might be besides the point. I advised her to tell future clients about this required 2 yearly cleaning of their carpets tp avoid similar issues in the future.
I don't know if this was the first time that this happened to a carpet that they sold, but I bought the carpet from them and they are absolutely unwilling to help and keep saying it is my responsibility to take care of this matter.
Also I was very confused that Lori had been e-mailing with Karastan for a couple of weeks and never found out that Karastan is not responsible for the texture of the carpet (they are only responsible if the carpet becomes unattached from its backside), but another company. Shouldn't she have known that? I had surprise after surprise!
When you read the Stainmaster online warranty brochure the 2 yearly cleaning only refers to problems with a stained (wine, etc.) carpet, which is totally different from our problem, which has nothing to do with stains or cleaning, but is a production problem.
I feel that I have not been treated very well by Kerman. They should have pursued this matter with Stainmaster since I am their client.
Regards,
Loek van den Bergh
"In response to your critique of our handling your complaint about carpet we installed 5 years ago, I would like you to understand what took place from our perspective. I can understand your frustration with the process, but because it involved a procedure requiring involvement with the manufacturer we are at their mercy for the timeliness and decision of their response. After our initial inspection seemed to indicate a question about the material, we took the initiative to get the manufacturer involved with requesting them to perform an inspection. Unfortunately, when we turn issues over to a manufacturer we lose control in the response. Our sales representative was persistent with communication but the manufacturer as noted wasn't quick to respond. Then, when their finding involved warranty issues with the fiber manufacturer it further complicated and slowed the process. Upon hearing that the findings of the carpet manufacturer along with the fiber manufacturer had rendered your warranty void, I immediately took the position on your behalf to follow the stipulations of their warranty as if they had honored and not voided it. Their warranty called for a prorated discount which we awarded to you by passing on the terms of their discount as stated in the warranty. We did this for you knowing that we wouldn't receive any reduction in the price charged to us for your replacement carpet. It disappoints me to hear that you feel as though Kermans did not treat you very well, and my offer remains to follow the prorated discount guidelines in the manufacturer's warranty as if they would have honored it."
