This company installed my fence in 2016. All went well. But in 2019 I needed a gate repaired. Couldn't get them to return calls. Now in 2020 I need another repair (they're just 1 of 2 companies who carry the brand fence they installed) and again, after 3 phone calls and 2 online form requests, I can't get them to respond. They advertise repairs but clearly don't live up to their promise. Don't use them. They'll sell you a fence then disappear.

The fence was fine, but the out-sourced installation crew had to reschedule several times, then when they did show up, they installed the entire back fence line directly through the back line of my irrigation system. Not only did they not bother telling me (and they had to know because when I had it repaired, there were shards of PVC in the dirt), they effectively ruined the back line because the concrete they used to fix the posts went into the sections of the PVC line that weren't cut. When I left repeated messages for them about the damage and to talk to someone about why they didn't (at a minimum) inform me of the damage, I received no callbacks.

Everything was done quickly and professionally. Great communication both in scheduling and in the install process. They made sure the location of the fence was exactly where we wanted it, and did a great job with the install. Fence looks terrific, and was at a price just as good or better than any of the other estimates we received.

We had a rocky start, but in the end I was a satisfied customer. Communication was not the best and initial quality of the job left me unsatisfied; However, in the end the company resolved the problem and gave me a discount. In the end, I felt much better about my experience.

Terribly. K&M was apparently overbooked in the spring on 2016 and hired out a sub crew from another company (according to the crew). The crew rescheduled (pushed back) my install on at least 3 occasions. Once it was in, the fence looked and operates just fine. However, during install, the crew actually installed the back fence line directly on top of my back irrigation system line. It pierced the PVC pipe in 8 different spots and was directly above the sprinkler heads right down the line. No one mentioned a word to me. Once my sprinkler system was opened and my entire back row was inoperable, I had a tech come out to inspect. As I said above, the back line was pierced and concrete poured into the adjoining pieces of PVC in 8 spots. I had to have the tech no 2-3' workarounds in each spot. As the tech pointed out, between the PVC debris and the sprinkler heads right under the fence line, there was no way the install crew didn't know what they had done. When the tech was repairing my back line, my neighbor came up and gave me a bill for the repair of his system. Down the property line on that side of the house, the install crew had pierced his lines in 3 spots (again, they didn't mention to me). I left 3 voice-mails with K&M over a couple months and have still never heard a peep back from them. The only reason that this review isn't an F is that my fence is fine and the sprinklers are all repaired. I understand that each company includes in their contract they aren't responsible for sprinkler systems, but to install the fence line directly over a sprinkler line across an entire lot, not to mention it (despite having to know about it) and then failing to call me back after 3 messages (I finally gave up) just isn't an acceptable way to do business. I would recommend to anyone finding someone else to work with for any fencing needs.
Response from K and M Fence
"This is why we ask customers to have private lines like sprinklers marked. We have no idea where the pipes running to the sprinkler heads are at until we hit them and then its too late. Although they should have told you about hitting them. And I'm not sure why if we were digging on your property the neighbors would have been hit. And yes we have 1 or sub contractors but they only work for our company. Only difference between them and our other crews is they provide their own trucks and tools so they make more money."

They are a group of firemen that do work together on their off days. I was very happy with them. In regards to scheduling, they can only come on their off days, but they were really accommodating still. They cleaned up well and were very polite. I plan on using them again in the future. Don't hesitate to call them!

Response from K and M Fence
"[Member Name Removed] thank you for the awesome review. I'm just a little confused though. Because only 1 of us is currently a firefighter and that's Brandon. Jim, our salesman is retired. So as far as scheduling goes we are open Monday through Friday 7 to 5 and we schedule estimates everyday."

Poorly, left wide spaces (measured wrong) in fence expansion. Didn't clean up, left old board with nails laying in yard. Left yard open after being told I had 3 big dogs, had to come back with temp fence cuz didn't listen. Forgot to order gates so yard still with temp Fencing.
Response from K and M Fence
"Myself and my business partner went out to this job amd immediately noticed the problems that were made with the fence expansion. We had the crew take down a lot of the pickets and install them correctly. Clean up wasn't completed since the job wasn't finished yet. We also replaced 30 pickets per our contract and then this customer expected us to replace a bunch more pickets for free that were not part of the contract. I agree with her that the crew messed up by taking part of the fence down. They could have left the existing fence in place and added the expansion and taken down the existing fence once the expansion was completed. The aluminum gates did get over looked and were not ordered on time. This was due to the fact that we typically don't install aluminum gates on a wood job. The customer then solicited our installer to add the additional pickets that weren't part of the contract as a side job. We feel we made things right when we tore out part of the fence expansion and reinstalled it correctly. But [Member Name Removed] jumped the gun and left this review before work was even completed."

I'm happy with the end result of the fence but their communication was non-existent and overall customer experience was at best, so-so. The fence itself looks great. They had to push back the start by a few days. That wasn't a big deal. The job was supposed to be 2-3 days but turned into a full week. They explained it was because of the slope of the lawn and additional work to get the fence sections to angle correctly. That confused me because they came out and looked at it prior to provide the quote. They cut my, and my neighbor's, at&t lines. It wasn't their fault since the lines weren't marked but it wasn't until I came outside and told them that my cable was down that they said "oh yeah, we hit this line but figured it wasn't live." Why wouldn't they have come to me immediately and told me? It was the end of the project and tying up loose ends that were the main issues I had. After they had supposedly finished I put together a punch list of items that needed to be taken care of. This includes: * post caps and picket caps not glued properly * gates not aligned properly * gate locks installed upside down * gate bracket on outside of fence * fence sections too tight or too loose Had they taken care of all of these items after I contacted them I would have been happy. The problem is there was no communication. I would go to the backyard and notice that 1 or 2 things had been done but not all even though there had been no communication that they were coming, or came, what they did, when they'll be back, etc. I emailed them again asking for info and clarifying what still remained. I had emails sent from the owner that made me think everything was getting taken care of but, again, I would find 1 thing done, but not all, and no communication. The installation was started the first week of July and the final punchlist wasn't completed until some time in September. They offered to take $100 off my total cost for my issues, a 1.7% discount. Like I said, the fence looks good and I hope that it was installed well but the poor customer service makes me not want to do business with them again. Perhaps this is common in the fence installation industry but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Their work was fair. The receptionist who is the wife of the owner is incompetent in her communication. They showed up for fence mending without prior notice. I would use them again.

K and M was wonderful to work with. They quickly scheduled a time to come out and give us a quote. Their prices were competitive and their service was above par. Once we decided to use their services they completed the job in a timely and efficient manner. The final product was excellent and we have recommended them to a number of people since using them. Would absolutely use again.

We contracted them in November. They put up part of the fence and they just finished today. We have not been very happy with them. They could just staff themselves. They just would always cancel saying they did not have enough people to do the work. They just did not have the proper staffing ever. They probably ended up canceling on us at least a dozen of times between November and today.
Response from K and M Fence
"Yes staffing is a large problem in the fence industry. In Indiana this is a business that is extremely busy 6 months out of the year and slow during winter and fall months. It is hard to find quality people that like to stick around for an almost seasonal job. And this particular job changed and gates were added. Since it is aluminum it takes 3 to 4 weeks to order new materials every time there is an add on or change to the jobs. So all of the delays on this job were not K and M Fence's fault. I'm sorry you did not have a pleasant experience. We make up for our communication with our great quality."

Sorry everyone if this is a bit lengthy, but i want to add my experience from the start to finish.  I used Angie's List and read hundreds of reviews to better make an informed decision when investing so much $$ into a new fence.  So I hope this helps!
First, I can?t say enough how impressed we are with our new fence!  From the initial estimate, follow up, ordering materials and installation everything went smoothly.
We started getting estimates to replace our old wooden fence last April (2015) and K&M was one of the 3 companies that came our for an estimate.  Out of those 3 companies I was the most comfortable with Adam because I felt like he was straight forward with what the job would entail and wasn't pushy or just trying to sell me something.  After all estimates were in my husband and I decided we needed to wait and save a bit more so we could get exactly what we wanted.  So, in February when we were ready to move forward we contacted K&M again to come back out to re-walk the property and add a few changes to the previous quote.  This time it was Nick who came out and re-drew the plans for our new fence.  For comparison to our new quote, we also called out an additional 2 companies (different ones from the previous April).  Again, Nick made me feel the most comfortable.  In fact, one of the companies called out for the 2nd round of quotes told me they would not even do the job unless I changed the color combination I had picked.  He said they were the fence experts and that I would not be happy with what I had chosen.  Well, guess what?  We LOVE what I chose!!!
Once we made our material deposit (special order requires materials to be paid for up front)  the materials were ordered and we were put on the schedule for March 9th.  I was pleasantly surprised when I came home from dropping my son off at school on the 9th that the team doing our installation was already busy taking down our existing old wood fence. We have a large back yard and the fence they hauled away was 2 large trailer fulls. The tear out took an entire day to complete and they were back the next day with all of the materials for the new fence.  They hustled and worked hard, even though it rained on and off all day and they were literally covered in mud. Bad rain delayed the job for a few days but on the first clear and decent day they were back first thing in the morning to continue the work.  Gates were installed a few days later after the concrete had fully set.
Total new vinyl fence installed was 335 linear feet with a 10 foot double gate and a single 5 foot gate. I am a stay at home mom so I was able to watch them from start to finish.  I tend to have an OCD personality so I was out there quite a bit making sure everything was exactly how I wanted it.   Upon every question I asked they were polite and professional.  They were respectful of my requests regarding fence placement, gate placement and hardware placement. They cleaned up after themselves and took all of the scrap pieces and all trash left over with them.
After the fence was 100% complete I received the final invoice for the project and it was exactly as the contract sated.  I also received the material warranty information i needed to register with the vinyl company.
There was not one single problem and not one single complaint.  Communication was great, they were here on time, they worked hard and now we finally have our beautiful fence!  I would highly recommend K&M and we appreciate all the hard work their team did on our new fence.

Adam came out to provide the quote in mid-August 2014. I had three quotes altogether and K&M was the best quote. By 8/24/14, I accepted the contract and fence was installed within two weeks as promised. Job was completed on time within two days and they did a great job and cleaned up after themselves. After having the fence now for over a year, there is one post that is crooked, but not sure what can be done about that. Otherwise, the fence still looks good. I would recommend spending the extra money to have the guys stain it vs. doing it yourself.

K&M's quote was a little less than 1 other we got. We decided to go with them mostly because the other company promised some follow-up quotes that they failed to provide. Nick arrived a few minutes early when he came to quote the job. He was professional and answered all of our questions. We had some concerns about not disturbing our neighbor's shrubs while the project was being completed, and he made notes -- and they did get passed along to the installers. My only complaint is their poor scheduling -- and unwillingness to even TRY to do better. (We had talked with them about scheduling coordination both when the job was quoted, as well as when we hired them. Our request was not unreasonable -- we simply asked for a heads-up at least the day before of when they would arrive.) The first installation date we were given was

We wanted to fence in our backyard with a 6' high shadow-box wood fence. Rick came out, measured,  and walked us through the options available. In the interim, we had a survey done and desired a slightly longer fence. Rick came back out with another gentleman and re-measured. We signed the contract and the next week, a team came and installed the fence posts. They returned the very next day and put in the rest of the fence (around 170', treated). We (and our dog!) could not be happier with our new fence and our experience with K&M Fence. They were fast, professional, and did just an absolutely suburb job. I highly recommend anyone planning to install a fence to call and ask these folks for a free estimate. Many thanks to Rick and the entire K&M team!

I received 3 estimates and K&M was the lowest, but more importantly, the quality of the work exceeded all expectations.  They were able to give me an estimate very quickly and explained all the possible scenarios.  The communication with me was excellent - they had to change the original day by 2 days because of weather and I always knew what was going on.  Overall A+ experience
