Everything went very well. There were several major problems that came up and they were extremely cautious, helpful, and creative. It's an awesome crew! They are very respectful, and cleaned up after themselves. They were on time. There was one time that they did not show up- but they contacted us and did everything they could to get there. (This was a time during major ice storms) Overall, they are a little slow at getting the work done, but did an amazing job.
Description of Work: Did a major addition to our home.

Everything went pretty smooth from the beginning we had 3 different estimates and we went with John. All of the estimates were in the same ball park. John was easy to talk to and very friendly. I told John what I wanted for the fireplace and picked out the tile I changed my mind after some of the tile was on and he was willing to work with me to make sure It was what I wanted. I was really hesitant on the mantel but after they put it up I really like it. He always told me when he was coming and kept me informed of what they were going to do next. Also picked up and tried to keep the mess pretty contained. He is going to fix a railing on our outside porch and I would definitely use him again and recommend him to a friend. Good experience!
Description of Work: We had a leak in the roof and it went through our living room ceiling. John and his crew found out where the leak was and fixed it on the outside and then patched the ceiling. We also had them update the fireplace and hang the TV above it. Looks like a totally different room.

We didn’t use them because we changed our plans of getting a house. They seemed prompt and responsive. They were good to talk to as well.

My wife and I purchased an old 1950's bungalow, which had water damage, and needed major restoration. We planned on doing all of the demolition work of the plaster walls and ceilings, and then designing and finishing one area at a time. I had used JDV Construction previously a few years ago for a rental property roof replacement, and was impressed with John Vondersaar's (Owner) knowledge, energy, and professionalism. I called John back for this project, initially to patch the roof where I had removed an old chimney. I brought him back a few weeks later to get a price for installing a ridge roof vent in the upstairs attic master bedroom area. After looking at our space and design plans, and noting that we would be losing some headspace due to having to frame out a ceiling space for the ventilation, John recommended we talk to his insulation contractor about a newer insulation technology of spraying closed cell foam insulation in the rafter cavities. The insulation contractor was very nice and easy to work with. We ended up doing this, and could tell immediately how much cooler the upstairs felt, even without the walls or ceiling being finished. John then came back to finish the framing needed, and gave us some great ideas for adding some more closet space. John then set up an appointment for us and his drywall subcontractor to quote finishing the job. John made a point of being there as well. The drywall subcontractor John used was also very professional, and started and finished the job the following week. John came by as the drywall was being completed to check on things, and then made appointment once the job was finished, to meet with us and the drywall subcontractor to walk through everything, to make sure we were satisfied. The job looked great, and I was on to finish the painting and floorcovering. During the painting process, I called John to ask for some tips to painting the new drywall, and he was very happy to pass on what techniques his painters use. I was going to to the trim work myself, but decided I had neither the time or skill to get it done anytime soon. I called John back, and he gave me a name of a local trim carpenter, and this guy came out, and was as friendly and professional as the other guys John had working for him. I came away from the experience knowing that quality and reputation was very important to John, and it was reflected not only on himself, but the subcontractors he uses. I plan on having JDV back out this spring to install windows in the first floor area, and do more framing and drywall. JDV is very busy, so if you want something done tomorrow, they may not be for you, but they are worth the wait to know the job will be done right.

JOHN CALLED WHEN HE SAID, SHOWED UP WHEN HE SAID, WAS PATIENT AND THOROUGH IN EXPLAINING WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE, AND WAS ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. HIS CREW WAS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL, POLITE, AND PUNCTUAL. THEY CLEANED UP ANY MESSES THAT HAD TO BE MADE IN ORDER TO DO THE JOB. JOHN REALLY TAKES HIS WORK SERIOUSLY AND TAKES PRIDE IN DOING A GOOD JOB. I CANNOT GIVE JDV A HIGH ENOUGH RECOMMENDATION. JOHN ALSO HAS A BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU CERTIFICATE. HE IS TRULY TOP CLASS AND I CAN ONLY HOPE WHEN I NEED MY ROOF REPLACED IN ANOTHER 30 YEARS THAT JOHN IS STILL IN THE BUSINESS, BECAUSE I WOULD NEVER TRUST ANYONE ELSE TO BE AS CONSCIENTIOUS, THOROUGH AND REASONABLY PRICED. THE CREW WORKED THEIR TAILS OFF THROUGH THE COLD WEATHER AND OTHER ADVERSITIES. I PAID HALF WHEN THE JOB WAS HALF COMPLETED AND THE OTHER HALF UPON COMPLETION. HONEST, TRUSTWORTHY, WONDERFUL COMPANY! I FOUND HIM THROUGH A FAMILY MEMBER, YOU FOUND HIM THROUGH ANGIE'S LIST VIA ME!
Description of Work: I HAVE A QUEEN ANNE VICTORIAN WITH A TURRET IN THE HERRON-MORTON HISTORIC DISTRICT, AND MOST ROOFERS WOULD NOT TOUCH MY ROOF. THEY SAID IT WAS TOO TALL, OR TOO STEEP A PITCH, OR TOO MUCH WORK, ETC. THE COUPLE OF QUOTES I GOT WERE $10K MORE THAN WHAT JDV CHARGED. I CALLED ALL OF THE TOP RATED ANGIE'S LIST COMPANIES, AND EVEN THE BEST OF THEM TURNED ME DOWN OR WOULD NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS, OR SHOW UP FOR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT TIMES. NONE OF THEM WERE RELIABLE. JDV HAD TO STRIP OFF 3 LAYERS OF SHINGLES OFF A VERY STEEP AND COMPLICATED ROOF, INCLUDING TURRET. HE REPLACED ALL THE FELT AND ICE SHEETING, SHINGLES, AND GUTTERS OVER THE ENTIRE HOUSE (3500 SQ FT +) AND DETACHED GARAGE. HE DID AN AMAZING AND OUTSTANDING JOB!
