The vet was great. We had to take my dog in as an emergency because his leg had been torn open from a dog fight, and they were great explaining what was happening and helping us feel at ease. My dog has bad anxiety and they were good working with him. They also quoted us $600-$800 (because our dog wouldn't let them inspect the wound) and it ended up just being $420, so I felt that was fair since they had quoted us much more. They were great that night, I would recommend them to anyone, and I would use them again (but I hope I won't have to!)! Thanks for your great service!

I like them a lot. They were really helpful in diagnosing our little girl with her disease. They were fabulous. The thing that made us go there was that they were the only ones that had the test needed to diagnose her condition. The staff was considerate and they understood how important she was to us. They would be our normal vet if we lived closer.

We went in after midnight and the staff was more than happy to assist us. When the vet bill came back, we talked about different billing options and they have sent us multiple follow up letters! It was great!

Indy Vet is an emergency and specialty practice (by referral only). Dr. Gillespie is a wonderful vet. Our nearly 20-year-old cat got an extra year of life that she might not have had thanks to this vet. Even when she was out of town, 'Dr. G" would call the hospital to see how our cat was and confer on her treatment. I can't say enough good about her. She cared just as much about us, the pet owners, as we coped with the declining health of our pet of two decades. Our cat was a Siamese and could be very intimating and very vocal, but Dr. Gillespie knew not to show any hesitation and would casually pick her up. As a result, Niki was just as calm and Dr. G was able to treat her with no problem. At the end, we were not able to get to the animal hospital in time, but Niki did not die alone. She was surrounded by many staff members as she slipped away. Since her passing, Dr. G has called us several times to make sure we were coping OK. We are, thanks to her care and the thoughtful staff at Indy Vet.

I have been so pleased with the attention and care that Lilly and I both have received. Lilly is in a large tank filled with chlorinated water. She walks on a treadmill in the tank which is a great therapy for her type of surgery/injuries. Lilly appears to really enjoy the experience. So much so, that the therapist has to hold her tail from wagging so vigorously that she splashes water all over them. I have to say that I have an awful lot of fun also! It is good to be doing something for Lilly that allows her to be a puppy. We are not done with our sessions. We have scheduled 8. I had to write a review now because I can't imagine our experience in the next couple of weeks, will be anything but great.

Anxious to go outside in the middle of the night, our Yorkie, fell down the stairs half way through and hit his head on the wall. After getting back up and shaking it off we were able to go outside. As he started going to the bathroom he stopped mid-way and started heaving; which lead to puking 2 times. Then he started walking to the door and then took a turn for the worse. It was like his limbs completely gave out. They all started going in different directions, as his head was tilted to the side and he was not able to stable himself. After I attempted to check to see if his eyes were showing any signs... he lost complete control of his body and started barrel rolling/alligator rolling through the front of our yard.

In a state of panic in the middle of the night - my husband and I were able to call Indy Vet Emergency & Specialty Hospital and we spoke to Megan who was one of the vet techs. We let her know our Yorkies' condition and she very calmly let us know, that they will be able to take care of our Yorkie, there office location and told us the examination fee up front ($89.00). Twenty minutes later we were greeted at the door by Megan, who was able to take our dog quickly back to an examination room. She had us fill out some paperwork and then lead us into our own waiting room.

The waiting rooms were relaxing. They had a TV that we were able to watch to calm our nerves while they were testing our dog. Shortly after arriving, Dr. Goldman came into the room and let us know that our dogs reflexes, pupils, heart rate, temp and respiratory rate was normal. With that being a good sign, she was then able to ask us everything that had happened. She listened very well and was able to give us a list of things that she thought it could have been. She recommended that the symptoms sounded like he had a seizure due to hitting his head. Dr. Goldman made a recommendation that they cold keep him there for 24 hours and they would be able to monitor him to see if any of the symptoms came back. We opted out of leaving him there without us since he is like our child. We asked her if there was any other alternative. She said that they could run some blood work (cost about $207) and those tests would be finished in about 30 minutes. We decided to go with the blood work test.

Shortly after drawling his blood, a very nice and friendly vet tech brought our Yorkie into our waiting room so that he could wait with us. He acted like nothing had happened less than an hour ago and he was back to his normal self. Then Dr. Goldman came back in and let us know that the blood work came back great and she said everything looked just fine. She mentioned no medication, but mentioned that we should keep a close eye on him. She definitely let us know that due to him hitting his head, his symptoms lead to a seizure. I am so glad to know that during this traumatic instance, everyone at Indy Vet really took care of not only our Yorkie, but also my husband and I.

Charlie has seen 2 of the Doctors @ this facility. They were quite personable, along with other staff members. The Doctors were thorough, & very kind about explaining things to me. It's obvious they really care about their patients. I have not felt rushed in any of the 3 appts, & any questions I had were answered clearly.

They also gave me a print-out of what was done, along with instructions about medication, what to look for if there would be any changes, & when the next appt. is to be.

Prices seem alittle high, but probably comparable to other places. I just think vets in general, have gotten out of hand with prices. But @ least they offer payment options. And like most doctors, they tend to run late!

They got her back on her feet but she was never the same and had to remain on high doses of prednisone to prevent and quot;mouth dropand quot;. I am comfortable in knowing that they did everything possible which was all I asked. Yes, emergency care is very expensive and it was a hardship for me. But we can't put a price on our beloved furry friends. Unfortunately sometimes the money just isn't there so please don't feel guilty if you find yourself in that situation. You can only do your best for your friend and sometimes there are just limits. Your love for your pet is the most important gift you can give to them.

The clinic also runs a blood donation division and my Shepherd/Rottie donated to that on a regular basis. It was good to know I could give back in some way and perhaps save another dogs life. I highly recommend participating in this important program. I wouldn't say my Vet's bedside manner was the most charming but again, that wasn't why I was there. I wanted the best care I could provide. The staff have always been wonderful espeically the gals running the Blood Donation program. In an emergency, IVEC is the only place I woiuld go.

I visited once, a year prior for my dog that had an abscessed tooth. They told me she was going to need extensive surgery that would be incredibly expensive. I told them that was ridiculous and took my dog else where, where she was given antibiotics and healed with no incisions.
About a year later, I came home to find my dog having seizures and vomiting blood and I knew I had to rush her to the closest vet possible, which was unfortunately this particular clinic. Keep in mind, my dog was very elderly and I was well aware her time had come. They were quick to take her from me and rushed her to a room on one side of the clinic and took me to a different room on the other side. Needless to say, I was hysterical and upset.
A doctor came to my room and explained it was best to put her to sleep, which I figured was going to be my only option. I had her euthanized and asked for her to be cremated. Before I left, they handed me a bill for over $600.00. The price was outrageous! Not only had I just lost my best friend, but now I'm getting slammed with a bill that included "Vet Inspection/Check-up". What was there to check up and charge me $300 alone?
The cremation itself was the cheapest part of that bill because they ship your pet elsewhere for that service. Had I been able to take my dog to my normal vet, the same visit would have cost me maybe $50. I would never recommend this vet to anyone. Unfortunately, they are the only vet open after hours and they make you pay for it. They are heartless robots, no sympathy or emotion that take advantage of people in despair with ailing pets.

Was told my dog had a bladder stone that was too large to pass. I had my own vet perform surgery and when he opened her bladder, there was NO stone there even though I was assured multiple times from IVEC that there was one. I sent a letter to the owner of IVEC and never received a response. I was not asking for anything, I just wanted to let them know what happened and I asked for the courtesy of a response. The vet who told me my dog had a bladder stone was not certified to read ultrasounds or x-rays but insisted that the stone was there and was too large to pass.
Luckily my dog is fine now, thanks to my own vet. But because of IVEC's misdiagnosis or incompetence, I put her through an unnecessary surgery which was quite extensive.

When I came home after being gone for around 2 hours, my nine year old male German Shorthair Pointer could not stand up and looked disoriented. He had lost control of his bladder. A neighbor recomended this facility and helped me get him in the car. They came out with a stretcher and took him right in. After a couple of hours they came to say he was getting better but they didn't have a diagnosis and wanted to keep him overnight since he was dehydrated and still not able to stand. A neurologist would see him in the morning and give a more definitive diagnosis. By morning he was almost back to normal and the working diagnosis was a mass in his brain. We opted not to spend the $2000 for more testing since surgery would not be an option for someone in his condition, neither would chemo. He spent the day there and continued to improve.
I was pleased with the experience. Yes, it was expensive but it was after regular vet hours. The only improvement that could be made would be to have the doctor talk with the owners more promptly, both at admission and during the time he was there.

Because this is the closest emergency clinic, I've been there several times over the years- always with mixed results.

The front desk is the best of their staff. They are patient and answer many questions.

I've been there at 4 am with a dog who had seizures. They kept him for 12 hours. As I went to visit the next afternoon I heard the vet, through the door, say she wouldn't let him go home that I was only to visit. I knew right then he would be going home with me.

I've been there as my dog was bleeding from the nose. After more than an hour in the waiting room, I went to the front where they said and quot; What, the doctor hasn't seen you?and quot; This was after I saw the doctor go into the room of another client who had arrived 20 minutes after me. They did pull another vet from the back to come see us.

On the other hand, they have filled prescriptions when my regular vet isn't open or is too far to drive. They do hold a wonderful party in July. They have a extensive diagnostic equipment.

I wouldn't use them to replace a regular vet as they are more expensive, but in a pinch you can get service.

It didn t go well. The girl at the front desk was nice and very sympathetic. She gave us a room and told us that someone would be right in. About 40 minutes later someone came in listened to his heartbeat and took his temperature. This person never identified herself so we don't know if she was a vet, tech or something else. About 20 minutes after she had left another woman came in, again she did not identify herself. She challenged me on whether or not my dog could see based on the fact that my dog was able to navigate around some fixed objects that were in the exam room. She did not take into account that we had been in that little room for over an hour by this point or try adding a different "obstacle" for him to avoid. She then announced that she would have to run a long list of tests. We asked if all of them were necessary and she said that if we cared about our dog they were. If not we could leave and our dog might die. We agreed to let her run the tests. Once the results came back she came to the conclusion that our dog was having vision difficulties because of cataracts. After paying almost $1500 and spending close to four hours at IVEC, we realized that our dog wasn't going to be helped here and left. As soon as our regular vet opened we took him in. Our vet disagreed with the diagnosis and referred us to a university vet clinic. There they ran a couple of tests and determined that our dog had very high blood pressure and as a result the retinas had detached. We then took him to an ophthalmologist who agreed with the university vet clinic's diagnosis and treatment plan. It cost us less to see two specialists and our regular vet combined, as it did for the one four hour visit to this facility. In the end we wasted a LOT of time and money using this facility.

About 2 years ago, our very loving boxer got out of the yard and was shot. We rushed her to the IVEC. We were told she was hit in the arm and it shattered her humorous just below the shoulder joint and the leg would have to come off. Since we have pet insurance, we consented and they did the surgery. They were so attentive not just to Zoe, our dog, but to us too. Once it was all done, they saw her weekly and nursed her to recovery. She has made a full recovery. The doc did such a good job, people often ask if she was born with only 3 legs. Barely any scar. Now we take all of our dogs there. It's a bit further than we like, but we get great care.

My canine didn't respond well during the last donation and was "booted out" of the donation program. However, the staff was very apologetic and invited us back if anything changed with his behavior. The blood donation program is a wonderful service to the community.

My dog started limping after he jumped off our back porch. I took him to our regular vet and he said that he thought that Kujo had stretched his ACL and recommended limiting his activity and to come back in two weeks he wasn t doing better. At the time my dogs were blood donors at IVEC and the following week they had their blood donation appointment. At that appointment the IVEC vet determined that he had a broken toe and a torn ACL. I trusted that she knew what she was talking about and did not take him back to his regular vet. I just scheduled him for surgery. After the surgery Dr. Speiser called and told me that he had amputated my dogs toe (which was the only way to handle the broken toe) and that my regular vet had misdiagnosed Kujo and that his ACL was fine. However in order to get a good view of the ACL he had to cut the other ligament (to this day that doesn t make sense), so it would take a few weeks for that to heal. When I brought Kujo in for his follow-up appointment a week or so later he was toe touching with the injured leg. When they brought him back to me, he was no longer using the leg. When I asked about it the tech stated that it was sore since they had changed the bandage and he would be fine in a couple of days. A few days later we had an appointment with Dr. Speiser who stated that the ligament had torn again and we would need to re-do the surgery. If I allowed IVEC to keep him until the leg had healed, he said that he would do the 2nd surgery for free. About a week and half later someone from IVEC called and told me that he had torn his ligament again and that Dr. Speiser would call on Monday to discuss it. He did call Monday morning and said that they were going to do a different procedure that day. An emergency came in and the surgery was rescheduled. I assumed for Tuesday and when I called to check on him I was told that he was on the schedule but Tuesday evening I was told it had been postponed again. On Wednesday I was told the same thing. On Wednesday evening I called to see when they were going to take care of Kujo and was told he was not on the schedule for Thursday. Later that night I called back and told them that I was picking Kujo up Thursday morning and taking him to Purdue. I received a call early Thursday morning apologizing for the confusion and that he was being prepped for surgery as we spoke and assuming everything went well I would be able to bring him home within a couple of days. I let them do the third surgery and everything went well. He did come home a few days later. Again, as with the previous two surgeries, the ligament tore. He had surgery yet again and again it tore. For the fifth and final surgery it was decided that problem was that the ACL wasn t able to hold the knee since it was so stretched (which we learned from the first surgery) and that a K-E brace would work best. It was a little after the fifth surgery that Kujo started experiencing a little discomfort.

I called the office after realizing that my dog had eaten two Advil that were sitting on my table. I was disappointed that they took more than 20 mintes to call me back to let me know if I needed to bring her in. I called back as I started heading there since I hadn't heard back. Once there, the service was very good. Dr. Stanley was very kind and quickly examined my dog. He provided medications and gave me an honest prognosis. He discussed the immediate and future treatments that my dog would likely need.

You can get in 24 hours a day. The veterinarians there always explain things well. I don't know that they are the cheapest, but they are better to work with. I had gone to another place and did not like them as well, as they had refused to take a check and I did not like their attitude about that.

The doctors and staff seemed very professional, thorough, and caring. Pancreatitis can be a life-threatening acute disease in dogs and they pulled our dog through it with seemingly good care. According to the information I've gathered about pancreatitis after the fact, they apparently followed the treatment protocol as generally prescribed. My only complaint is that a couple of the tests they prescribed seemed a bit redundant, even though they were reasonably sure that my dog had pancreatits from the very first exam. They are a 24-hour pet hospital and are VERY expensive compared to a regular vet and possibly even compared to other 24-hour hospitals. Since our ordeal, I've checked out a couple other 24-hour pet hospitals (for the future) that rate high on Angie's List and seem to be more reasonably priced. Although all 24-hour places tend to be higher priced. Overall, I was generally pleased with the outcome.

I was a little worried about having to wait so long to see a vet but my dog was no longer in obvious distress by the time we got there, so it was OK. Even after we got to the examining room there were several long waits. They were very thorough. I appreciated their professionalism. My dog got top notch care and is doing fine.

Symptoms for our Labrador Retriever were anxiousness and trembling. We took her to this facility at 10 p.m. on a Saturday evening, based on the recommendation of our regular veterinarian. We were seen at the facility within minutes of our arrival. The attending Vet was thorough, gentle, and knowledgeable. We stayed about 2 hours, ultimately leaving our dog overnight. The diagnosis after Xrays was arthritis. The next day we met with a rehabilitative Vet who helped understand the disease in great detail. He was very thorough and informative. He showed us Xrays comparing a healthy dogs hips to our dogs arthritic hips. He gave us a list of activities and exercises to strengthen the muscles. He offered to explore more exercises and therapies as needed, including possibly water, sonic, etc. The facility is moving in March 2007 to a brand new building 0.2 miles down the road. The capacity and services offered will greatly increase after their move. The office staff was caring and friendly.
