They showed up when he said they would. After two months the last half of the pour spalted or chipped heavily. I sent pictures, texts and emails and got no response. Chips get worse every year. Also a heavy crack parallel to the house, indicative of inadequate base prep and compaction.

The craftsmanship and finished product is an A. I question the follow through and the professionalism, I'd have to give that a D. It was a good price, we did have to do some haggling. My wife didn't get what she wanted on the front porch and she was furious about it. I understood why. He could have followed through on the quote that he gave us, the drawing that was signed off, and agreed upon. If he had adhered to that and done that, he would have had an A.

Jim Holmann was contacted to remove and replace our driveway, he submitted a quote of $7400.00 to remove existing concrete and replace it with 4 inches through out the entire Drive. he was to add fill as needed and cover with 6 mil plastic, then make 2 pours of fiber reinforced concrete then add swirl pattern and  seal the entire drive.

he arrived on Tues. morning (5-17-2016) late and instructed workers to remove drive with no yard damage, excavator stated that
he could haul 19 tons of material per load or approx, 600 to 800 square feet of drive per load (our drive 1200 sq ft). upon arrival excavators was over 2/3 full t, therefore had to make 3 trips to dump his load on a levee that they were building..  Hofmann didn't show on Wed. and returned on Thurs to form and do the first pour, Jim Hofmann would leave the job site every 30 to 45 minutes and return approx 30 to 45 minutes later, as the day progressed he left more. on Friday 5-20 Jim's crew arrive approx 9 am to do and 2nd pour and now 3rd pour, Jim Hofmann still disappeared several times that day and at times was yelling at his workers until he finally left around 1:30 and never returned. as the day lingered and clean up was done, i noticed low spots and a 11/2 rise between the 2nd and 3rd pour, I called Jim about it and he became very arrogant and said he was leaving town, that afternoon as dog ran over the drive and one of his workers came out and attempted to remove them, at that time I pointed out my concerns and their was some agreement. On sat 5-21 two workers retuned to removed the remaining forms and I pointed out several issues with agreement and other various comments, I took Photos of the issues as evidence, Hofmann returned late afternoon on Sunday and refused  to look or address my concerns and became very Hostile with me and I retaliated, things got worse and he left, but returned shortly hanging out of his Truck verbally abusing me. on Monday 5-23 he threaten me with a lien if I didn't pay, I asked him if he was going to fix and complete the Job.. NO Answer!!!!!
Hofmann's quote clearly stated that All up charges At my Cost, he ended up charging me $450.00 extra for a third dump and sealer .. Hofmann refuses to except responsibility for and actions and refuses to acknowledge his contract/ quote.

all photo's and PDF files are available per request.

I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND  HOFMANN CONCRETE TO ANYONE!!!!
my mistake was not to research more and his background on Angie's list.

my final Rating is a F Minus in all areas !!!!

The day of the repair was early winter cold with showers.  Didn't expect work to continue.  But the experts were on duty.  They formed and poured the mix, covered it with plastic and returned the next day (Colts Sunday) to finish.  Kevin and his brother fixed the section needing repair but made the entire walk look as if it were a new pour.  Excellent workmanship and professionalism.

I am not sure if we had a communication error, but there were a few things that did not go as I imagined they would. I first had Jim out to look at what needed to be done. He was very enthusiastic and eager to do the job. He did tell me he was booked out a couple of months. He said he would get to me as soon as he possibly could. He called a few weeks later and could do it on a day I could not be there. I arranged to come later that afternoon. Our original conversation was that the grade to the house needed to be increased by bringing in some topsoil. Jim said it would take at least one tri-axil and possibly part of another one. He asked me where he should put any remaining soil. I pointed out an area that would be a good place for any left over topsoil. When I got to the house that afternoon as they were finishing up I was surprised to see nearly my entire yard in dirt. I did tell Jim in our initial meeting the area where he could put the extra dirt, I needed to fill in with topsoil, but I did not think it would have gone that way. The patios Jim and his guys poured are absolutely beautiful. I feel like he did a wonderful job on both of the patios. One is stamped and stained the other is an exposed aggregate. I feel like they are a high quality product with a bit of artistic ability put into it. I was a bit disappointed however in that when we first met we talked about putting in some curves and possibly personalizing it with a stepping stone that I intended to make. Since the job was pushed up by several weeks I didn't have time to prepare the stepping stone and the finished patio does not have the curves we talked about in it. I can live with the outcome of the patios. They truly are beautiful just the way they are.

Everything went perfect.  Hoffman showed up on time and completed the work within a very reasonable time frame.  I know it was a very busy time of year for them and I believe they worked very hard to accomodate my wishes.  The patio and pad look great!  I would hire them again without hesitation.

Excellent! Here’s why – I initially picked three contractors from Angie’s List and requested estimates. One didn’t show. The second one came out, looked at what was required and gave me an estimate. The third (Jim) came out, looked at what was required then, before giving me an estimate, described the steps involved in the job and explained how he was going to accomplish each task. Not knowing much about concrete I was impressed and appreciated the time he took to explain it all. Feeling more confident I engaged Jim for the job. His estimate was a little higher but worth it. His crew was very particular about the job and it looks great! Kudos!

The patio cracked and Hofmann Concrete didn't fix it. They don't stand by their work. We had to have somebody else come to fix it.
Response from Hofmann Concrete
"Hofmann Concrete offers a full one-year warranty on all concrete work. We laid this pool deck 6 years ago. This member called me stating there was a crack in the pool deck. While we are not liable after the one year warranty, we offered to patch the crack for the member at no additional charge. The member wanted us to replace the entire deck, which we can not do. While we take our customers satisfaction very seriously, we can not replace a job that is 6 years old. But we offered to fix the crack, the member decided to go with another company. We are sorry we could not help this customer and hope he got his problem solved. We thank the customer for the opportunity, and vow to help in every situation."

This will be our third time using Mr. Hofmann and just as before he did a beautiful job!!  A little over 3000 sq feet of aggregate concrete that butted up against our home and our pool.  He had to work with several contractors on our job site who were doing other jobs at the same time and he really brought our team together.  He is a perfectionist and I would use him time and time again!  Simply beautiful work!

Mr. Hofmann was very easy to work with, he always arrived promptly, did what he said he was going to do and communicated very well. I think the quality of workmanship is excellent and I am extremely happy with the results. The workers on his crew were very pleasant, polite and respectful. Overall an "A++".

Mr. Hofmann gave my husband a written estimate & said to let him know when we decided if we wanted to have the work done. His estimate was in line to 1 other estimate we had gotten so we decided to go with Hofmann. Mr. Hofmann stated the next time he had another job on the southside we would be on the list. On November 7th Mr Hofmann & his crew arrived & in less than 2 hours had the old cement removed & the new concrete poured and everything cleaned up. The pad looks wonderful & we are VERY pleased w/the work & Mr. Hofmann.

I paid extra for the contractor to put down plywood so that he would not tear up my yard with the bobcat. Contractor showed up and didn't have enough plywood. Instead of obtaining more plywood, he just drove over my lawn making ruts about a foot deep. When I confronted him about this, he replied that there was nothing wrong with the lawn and maintained that if I just watered that part it would come back. Too funny! I had to buy about 24 sacks of topsoil to repair the damage he did to my yard. I would highly recommend to anyone, that you monitor installation if you hire him.

In August 2010, I used Hofmann Concrete, formerly Concrete Gem, and/or Shirley Hofmann Concrete Gem of Indianapolis, In and had a driveway and front walkway removed and new concrete was poured....All looked great in the beginning. However, I noticed how the concrete had the appearance of still being wet and had dark wet-looking patches and still even to this day, April 11th, 2011 they are still in the concrete... In November 2010, before any unusually bad winter storms or the "ice storm" of 2011, I noticed in one section of the driveway there were some chips of concrete coming off , with the appearance that the top layer was peeling off.... I took this as some typical concrete damage that can occur, along with the possibility of cracks, which cant always be avoided with newly poured concrete.... To this day, there are only a few cracks in the joints and this is customary... Then the ice storm hits and I call Jim Hofmann and tell him that there are over 150 chips/peeling occuring all over the driveway. I do not use any salt on my driveway and I do not park any vehicles in the driveway. Jim Hofman suggests that the ice storm may have been the culprit and/or the concrete company, IMI, may be at fault... One sidenote... 2 other driveways on my same street had concrete driveway jobs completed in late 2010 and neither one of them have any "ice storm" damage or any other damage... This was forwarded to Jim Hofmann. At this point, JIm Hofmann states he will contact a representative from IMI Concrete company. Mr. Hofmann did get ahold of a Rep at IMI and the Rep did come to my home and look at the driveway. I was not at home when the IMI Rep inspected my concrete. Mr. Hofmann then suggested I call the IMI Rep and attempt to get further information... While suggesting I call the IMI Rep, Mr. Hofmann appeared to deflecting any kind of blame for the concrete damage and he used strong language suggesting that IMI maybe using new additives in their concrete mix and/or IMI has been "experimenting" with their mixtures and this maybe why my concrete is defective. It appeared at this time, Mr. Hofmann was not standing behind his product, and/or his workmanship. And to recommend I call IMI to attempt to resolve this compalint seemed unprofessional. Even the IMI Rep was suggesting I should be dealing with the contractor.. The IMI Rep was very informative and gave me his thoughts of the concrete damage. He thought that maybe the finishing of the top layer by the contractor may have been the issue and that is why the top layer is peeling. The IMI rep did say the chips and peeling was excessive and out of the ordinary..Mr. Hofmann stated in February that he was supposed to be receiving a report, from the IMI Rep, about his inspection of my driveway. As of April 11, 2011, I have not been notified of the results of the report and/or seen a copy of the report.. I last talked to Mr. Hofmann on the phone on March 28,2011 and after 2 weeks I have had no response back from him.. He stated on that day that he would attempt to contact the IMI rep back and schedule a meeting with all 3 of us and try to come to somekind of resolution. At this time, I have a made a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Indy and contacted Angie's List. I hope I can report back to the BBB and Angie's List that the concrete work wiith Hofmann Concrete has been resolved in a postive way.

We feel they did excellent work and were very conscientious. I gave price a "B" only because we didn't get any other estimates. They were recommended to us by another company that we have faith in, but we felt the price seemed fair. We would definitely use Mr. Hofmann again.

We called three contractors and after meeting with two of them, decided on Mr. Hoffman. Even though his was not the lowest estimate, we're happy we did. He was very professional, easy to work with, and gave us a beautiful finished product - it's obvious that he takes great pride in his work. We did spend a little more than the original estimate, but think we got much more for our money than we anticipated - especially given there were unforeseen problems with the old porch which Mr. Hoffman addressed without asking. We went with a colored, stamped finish and he expanded the walk area as well as the porch, and made both the porch and steps curved, making the entrance much more attractive and usable. We've already gotten lots of compliments - even our teenage son loves it, and that's saying a lot.
