Hedlund's Ace Hardwares

I dropped the mower off to have the blades sharpened because the cut the summer before was really dull so I wanted to get the mower serviced before this summer's busy season. They had the mower for about a week and called me when it was ready to pick up and helped me load it into the truck. The mower now cuts the grass great! I was able to finish the yard in half the time it took before because I didn't have to go over any uneven spots. I only wish I would have had it serviced last summer - think of all the time I could have saved mowing! The store is pretty cramped and can get hectic with just a few people in line, so be patient.

The man at the cash register gave me exact directions to the dowel rod display ("Go to the back of the store, turn left and go to the second room. The dowels will be right in front of you.") On the way there and back, I was amazed by the quantity and variety of home repair materials available and on display in such a compact space. When I returned with a dowel, he stepped away from the register for a moment, and returned with the exact wood glue I needed. Lots of hardware stores have quantity and variety but lack the excellent knowledge of products and their exact location in the store. Best of all, when shopping at this store, I can be in and out and on my way and save all that walking I'd have to do in the big box stores. I'd rather do my walking outside!

After searching Lowes, Menards and Home Depot for a old-fashioned pipe fitting for my home in Broadripple and being looked at blankly by every sales person I met, I tried Hedlunds. Not only did they immediately know what I wanted, but showed me the proper way to install it. They have a messy store but really know their business!!

First of all, getting a key made is not a big job. I have tried since moving to the Broad Ripple area to frequent independent businesses. This was my last trip to Hedlund's. I had been there in the past and paid a little more money than I would have by shopping at Lowe's 2 blocks up the street. I had received average service, at best, every time I have visited. This time, I dealt with the owner (I believe) and was treated like I was more of a bother than a customer. He was rude and somewhat condescending. I understand that making a duplicate key isn't a financial boon. However, it is a service Hedlund's offers. If it is a bother, then they shouldn't do it. I will not go back. I will go to the aforementioned Lowe's or Do It Best a mile North on Keystone for all of my future needs.

I LOVE GOING THERE. THEY FIND THE EXACT SUPPLIES I NEED AND THEN TEACH ME HOW TO DO MOST OF THE SIMPLER PROJECTS I TRY TO APPROACH. THEY'RE AVAILABLE FOR PHONE CONSULT AND I KNOW WHO I'M TALKING TO. HEDLUND'S IS GREAT TO WORK WITH ON ANY HOME PROJECT! I LOVE THE PLACE. I RECOMMEND THEM FOR ALL HARDWARE NEEDS!

I HAVE HAD OCCASIONS TO LOOK FOR UNUSUAL PLUMBING AND OTHER HARDWARE AND HAVE FOUND PERSONNEL TO BE HELPFUL IN LOOKING FOR WHAT I NEED OR SUGGESTING ALTERNATIVES. THEY HAVE A LOT OF STUFF THERE AND IT'S MUCH EASIER TO NAVIGATE THAN ANOTHER HARDWARE STORE, THOUGH, AS YOU MIGHT EXPECT, PRICIER.

EMPLOYEES SEEMED KNOWLEDGEABLE, BUT HAPPIER TO HELP MALE CUSTOMERS... STORE IS ALSO VERY CRAMPED... THEN THERE WAS THE BAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE SCREEN REPAIR ( AN OUTSIDE JOB) AND NO APOLOGIES OR RESPONSIBILITY TAKEN FOR A SHODDY JOB.

EVERYTHING A STORE OF THIS KIND SHOULD BE. AN AMAZING INVENTORY FOR A RELATIVELY SMALL STORE, PERSONAL SERVICE, KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE AND FAIR PRICES.

I ALWAYS GO THERE FIRST. PRICES ARE AS GOOD AS ANYWHERE AND THEY ARE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND FRIENDLY.

WE PURCHASED A PUSH MOWER THROUGH THEM. THERE WAS A FLAW IN THE PRODUCT. WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT IT HOME AND FINALLY STARTED IT UP, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND REALIZED THAT THE FOOT GUARD SOMEHOW HAD BEEN BROKEN BY THE BLADE. I TOOK IT BACK TO EXCHANGE IT AND NOTIFY THEM OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS TREATED IN A VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL MANNER. THE OWNER WAS SPEAKING FROM BEHIND THE CLERK WHERE I COULD NOT SEE HIM, AND SAID HE WOULD NOT OFFER AN EXCHANGE. HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE THE MOWER THERE AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A REPLACEMENT PART. I DID NOT WANT TO DO THAT BECAUSE WE NEEDED TO MOW OUR LAWN. THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE LAWN MOWER PERSON TO COME IN THE NEXT DAY TO SEE WHAT HE SAID ABOUT IT. HE WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL ME THE NEXT MORNING AT 9AM, BUT HE DIDN'T. I CALLED THEM TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON WITH IT IN THE AFTERNOON AND THEY SAID IT WAS READY AND THEY HAD COMPLETED THE REPAIR. IT WASN'T A GOOD EXPERIENCE OVERALL.

I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN AND I WOULD ONLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ENEMIES. THERE WAS NOT AN OUNCE OF PROFESSIONALISM SHOWN BY ANYONE WHO WORKED THERE. IN ADDITION TO THEM LEAVING US IN THE DARK REGARDING OUR LAWNMOWER THEY TOOK IT UPON THEMSELVES TO PERFORM UNAUTHORIZED WORK WITHOUT GIVING US A PHONE CALL EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD OUR PHONE NUMBER. THEY WERE RUDE, UNREASONABLE, AND UNAPOLOGETIC. I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU DON'T USE THEM.

THEY WERE VERY INCONVENIENT AND INFLEXIBLE WITH SCHEDULING FOR PICK UP OF MY MOWER. NO ONE EVER APOLOGIZED.
