Appointments are scheduled in a timely manner. Work is completed as agreed upon. Clean up is perfect.
Special thank you to Rob Beatley for being such a great resource for us.
were damaged due to the construction. I really like the finished product. It exceeded my expectations. I would definitely recommend this company for landscaping needs.
Scheduling, billing, etc was easy and affordable. Estimate was good.
Work was great, clean up was great -- it was like they were never there. I just came home from work to a completed job and beautiful landscaping.
Rob was very kind to answer questions after the job was completed as I had questions about the fertilizer used, etc.
Highly recommend!
Another huge problem with this project is that we did not get what we bargained for. Due to the lack of space we were told that we would need to install a french door so the workers could get in and out of our garage. Well, the workers said the french door was not needed which was fine but I am still not 100% certain that this was not part of the estimate for which we did not get a discount on price. Due to the extreme length of time that it took to finish the work, we were not able to use our garage for over three months. Toward the end of the project, one of our cars was broken into since we could not park in our garage. When this was communicated to the owners, all they said was "sorry about that". Well, I was sorry that a six week job took almost four months. We also has another incident that caused a lot of stress involving our dog but to be honest, that was an honest (albeit preventable) mistake so I cannot hold that against them. I did not handle that situation well which is another reason I cannot hold this incident as a reason for why I would not recommend Green Acres
Another issue involved the lighting for our patio project. After work had been started, we were told by the owners that they didn't factor lighting into the project. To say the least, this seemed like a blatant oversight. What patio doesn't have some sort of lighting? When this was brought up to us we said..."well, okay but how to do you propose fixing the problem"? The response we got was that if you want lighting it is going to cost you an additional $6500. At this point in the project I was ready to get rid of Green Acres and hire someone else. I know my wife would have and she was likely right. Since the project was already under significant construction we said that we would come to a resolution on the lighting. The resolution was, we installed fewer lights than what was recommended. Again, how can a licensed landscape architect forget to install lighting?
We also had a pizza oven installed. After the project was over, I tried to start a fire in the pizza oven and was successful but the oven didn't get to the temperature that my research indicated it should to cook pizza. My research indicated that it should get to 700-800 degrees and mine only got to about 500 degrees. I passed this on to the owner who said "they don't always heat up when it is cold outside". Are you kidding me? First of all, it was unseasonably warm (almost sixty degrees in November) and secondly I was not given any indication by the owners that I couldn't use the pizza oven in cold temperatures. I am not 100% certain any of this is true but to be fair to the owners, I have yet to investigate this other than consult with friend who basically have said they can use their pizza oven year round.
Finally, the cost of this project was far greater than we expected. We said that we did not want to spend more than $40,000 but the project ended up costing us over $60,000. That is on us as we decided to proceed with the project due to our faith that the project would be completed timely and with lighting.
At the end of the day, our honest opinion is that the owners could have remedied much of the problems we had by just saying "THIS IS GOING TO TAKE LONGER THAN WE THOUGHT" and not "WE ONLY NEED A COUPLE OF MORE DAYS." The issue with the lighting not being factored in was also handled very poorly. The sad thing is about all of this is that the work was TOP NOTCH (the foreman on our job, Tim was a great guy and a true professional) but I would be hesitant to use them for a major project in the future. I might due to the extreme high quality of workmanship but I would do a better job of setting expectation on cost and timeliness from the get-go.
"On the Selby Residence landscape job, he is right, we did go over the estimated time frame for job completion. However, it did not change his cost; we stayed with our price as quoted. The biggest single factor was that we underestimated the time it would take to build such a unique patio within the restraints of the fenced-in area, with the only access being a walk-through doorway. The entire project was very unique in that we had to get many features coordinated into the small courtyard that they had; and yet we made it all flow together and function as the client wanted; which took more time than we expected. Weather was also another factor slowing the work down. We are thrilled with the finished patio, and I believe the Selby's are as well. We did provide a detailed proposal with pricing, showing what was included in the design; so we are not sure why he felt lighting, other than the lighting under the water/fire feature, was included. However, we did install lighting as they wanted, at our cost and the labor to install it. The quality of what was promised and what was delivered is excellent. As for the dog getting out, we are truly sorry. We were greatly relieved when he was found. Most of my employees are animal lovers, including myself. Two of my guys spent several hours that Saturday night and the next Sunday morning driving all over the area looking for the dog, not knowing he had already come home. The end result of this is that they have a lovely patio, and the owner said he did appreciate the quality of our workmanship and the functionality of the new area. The project is on our website to see. In the owner's opinion, and ours, it is a beautiful space they can enjoy and use for years."
We made zero follow up calls, there was no trash or debris left on the property - you would never have known they were there.
Rob Beatley from Green Acres even allowed me to set up a web can to take a time lapsed video of the project.
