Designer - Landscape, Lawn Care - Maintain and Mow a Lawn, Sod Installation,

About us

Gardens of Growth is a successful landscape architecture design/build firm based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The firm was founded in 2003 by husband and wife team Adam Garvey and Casey May, who met while studying landscape architecture at Ball State University. We remain committed to acting as both designer and contractor for our projects. While most design/build firms are dominated by contractors, Gardens of Growth is unique in that we are designers first. We approach the design/build process as ‘Master Builders’, where the process of landscape architecture is a holistic approach, with careful attention paid to each phase of the design and construction process. This holistic approach to design and construction provides greater financial and aesthetic control. Beautiful spaces are created when each and every component of the landscape is carefully designed and executed.

Horrible! Employees took naps in the yard, and play boxed instead of working. They ran out of materials, and did not come close to completing in a timely fashion. We actually terminated them from the job.

The only person in the entire company I would a good review on would be there horticulturist who does the planting of the flowers. She is very knowledgeable and the only person who has done a good job. Her name is Marie and she is fabulous. She did the last planting of the flowers and she did a wonderful job. My biggest complaint with the company would be the owner. His name is Brian. His helpfulness and willing to work through a problem and or willing to deal with a customer is an F. He would not come to our house, he would not answer email or phone calls. Their time line and when they said they were going to get things done would change 6 different times in an 8  months period. Their pricing is astronomical. I had to hire a contractor to fix what they did. What they did was not even up to code or correct. I have had to had electrician out and contractor. It had been a headache after headache.   I would not recommend them to anyone.

They are not too expensive and they do come every week when the lawn needs mowing. They have been very helpful. Sometimes we have to have things cleaned up in the yard and they do that too.

Brian T. was very responsive and came over to discuss the work. It was done in a  timely manner. It was very nice and professional and they cleaned up well. When there was a small problem, Brian came back promptly and fixed it. I am always happy with their work.

Amanda, the architect, is a pleasure: personable, professional, creative. She had new ideas to offer, but was very willing to tone them down to meet my budget. She didn't try to oversell me. Once the project was approved, the office was slow to contact me with an installation date. Granted, it was a rainy time, but I would have liked a call to give me an idea of timing. There is no such thing as too much communication!
Once scheduled, Chris and his time arrived promptly and worked all day--past 7:00--to be sure all was done to our satisfaction. There was some confusion on plants--a few too many and a few the wrong color--but Chris made sure the project was done as specified in the original plan. He is a delight! He obviously loves what he does and is dedicated to making sure his clients are happy. He watered everything after it was planted, then blew off the deck, patio--even the garage! I would hire Chris, specifically, in a heartbeat!

I contacted Gardens of Growth this spring for landscaping and maintenance.  The designer came to my home so that I could show her the yard work needed and so that she would understand the scope of the projects I wished to accomplish.  I would like to design the back courtyard of my home so that is is more inviting.  I had previously employed an Angies List provider for the hardscaping.  I have a blue spruce which will soon overgrow the space, and a sumac which is growing northward toward the sun and blocking a pathway.  I will eventually need these removed and replaced.  I have many planters, from 14" to 36" which need annuals or perennials, as well as a window box planter under my kitchen window.  I had hoped to get a design plan, short or long term.  On the way into my home, I showed the designer a shrub in the front yard which I would like to replace, and the pathway from the back yard to the street which is groundcover without pavers.  The designer said she would get back to me in a couple weeks.
After a month, I had not heard back, so I followed up myself.  The designer was working "hard to get caught up."  The designer e-mailed me plans a week later.  The plans were for a planter for the front porch, a pathway for the side of my home, and replacing the shrub in the front yard.  The replacement for the shrub was a hydrangea, although I have a hydrangea in the center of my front yard and opposite side of the home.  I didn't think it would provide much variety.  But after waiting 6 weeks on a plan, I decided to go with the expert.  I mailed in a deposit for $1000 with the hope this would accelerate the timetable. I made no plans for taking a summer vacation to ensure I would be home when the work was completed.  My only "deadline" was that my parents would be visiting this summer, and I hoped to have something nice done by then.  I followed up to inquire about the timetable for the work.  There was none, but I was informed it would be a few weeks.  I replied that I would take care of the yard maintenance myself if it could not be done before my parents visited. Long story short, my parents are here, I have no pathway, no planter and no hydrangea.  I did the yard maintenance myself. I asked for my deposit back.  My deposit was refunded, minus the cost of the planter.  That is fine, except that I still don't have the planter!  Allegedly the planter was received by Gardens of Growth on Tuesday, and should have been delivered this week.  It is now Friday, I'm out $750, and I don't have the planter I could have ordered myself and had shipped in April.  I could have also used one of the empty planters from my backyard that Gardens of Growth did not fill. There are no plans for the back courtyard, which would have been lovely to use during the wonderful weather we are having.
When I attempt to contact Gardens of Growth office by phone, I'm transferred to the designer's voice mail.  No attempt to help me, no courtesy or responsiveness.

See above.  I had lawn treatment service in 2011 and 2012, which went fine and was done well.  I had extra work done in 2012 and asked for an estimate of additional work in 2013, which I canceled due to poor customer service as described above

A small team came onto the crime scene we called a yard. We had let the yard go for 2 years as we focused on home renovation projects. The yard was a jungle and they jumped in and reclaimed the from and back yards - 10 beds, a tree, two bushes, and planted new sod in an area too damaged to save.  Love the team - they gave me tips on maintaining the green scape for free.

We received an excellent master plan from Gardens of Growth.  We have used them previously and loved their work (design and execute), so we used them again.  Our house currently has very little landscaping, and not surprisingly, our master plan was a bit overwhelming.  They explained the logic behind the various design elements as well as many considerations that my wife and I had not thought of.
They also suggested a priority of work to be complete based on what would add the most value to our house and what we would get the most use out of first.
We did pay for the master plan, but they offer us reimbursement discounts should we choose them to do the work.
We asked for flexibility so that we could do parts of the plan ourselves and rely on them (or other contractors) to do other parts.  They were very helpful in giving us suggestions here too.
I would highly recommend this company.

They did a good job cleaning up all the flower beds, except for one area, which has an overgrown evergreen with weeds beneath.  They recommended cutting down the evergreen but it was not in my budget this year.  It's difficult to clean out weeds underneath, but they did the best they could.  Their monthly maintenance service is good.  They weed, spray weeds, cut browned or dead foiliage, and water my potted plants.

I contacted Gardens of Growth about installing pavers and a fire pit.  Amanda met with me, listened to my wants / needs and provided a Master Plan (drawing and quote) for my entire yard that could be completed in Phases.  I contracted to install pavers and a fire pit which also included new plants to large planters as well as plants to soften the existing fence line .
Gardens of Growth provided me with a beautiful extension to my outdoor living area.  They kept me informed of when they would arrive, the work that would be completed, and answered any questions I had.  Each day they cleaned the work area and kept me informed of the next day's schedule.
They have been great to work with during this project.  I would call on them again and recommend them highly.

Casey produced a beautiful, professional garden plan which included all I needed to make decisions on the project, including plant materials.  I am a master gardener and plant-a-holic, so I chose and planted those materials myself, since there were no large bushes or trees needed, which they would have done.  Adam and helpers laid out the rock path with weed cloth underneath and metal edging, small granite boulders, and decorative accent rocks, and added compost for the gardens.  It is very artistic and I was completely satisfied when they were done.  It cost more money than I had hoped, but the design has lasted  very well.  It was a number of years ago, maybe 5-8, and I am still very happy with the way the garden has evolved.

Peter is an excellent communicator. He responded to every phone call promptly and always let me know if the project was running behind or ahead of schedule. There were two incidents of utility wires being cut, despite the clear markings left by the locator. This was disappointing and unprofessional, but the crew members immediately called the utility for repair and even found a way to temporarily splice the wires until they could be be permanently repaired. When one of these outages affected my neighbor's service, Peter went to his home to offer his apologies and assure him of its immediate repair.

We had a big snow last winter and some guys came to my door and asked if I wanted them to plow. I couldn’t get the person I normally use to plow, and so they came with all this yard equipment. They said they were landscape architects, and that’s how I got to know about them. They gave us a price and came back another time and gave us a couple of designs and we ended up liking working with them. We are really happy with what they did for us. The work looks very pretty. The work went very smoothly. The biggest problem that we had was because of the rain. They went at a fairly fast pace to try to get it down in the few dry days that we had. They contracted out the cement pouring job. When they put the sealer down, there was a big rain storm and the sealer got washed off. We had to stay off of it again so that they could re-wash and re-seal it. It ended up happening 3 times. They worked really hard to get it all in there in as timely a manner as possible. The only other thing was that they then needed to come back and do a bunch of cleanup, fill-in and fix up along the edges. They had to dig up a little bit more than the width of the driveway to get the new driveway in, and then had to fill that back in with dirt and plants. When a couple of the plants didn’t make it, they came back and took a look. They were very good at coming back and fixing whatever hadn’t quite made it. We had lots of ivy along the sides and they were transplanting bits and pieces of the ivy that we already had, but most of that didn’t make it. When that happened, they just came back with new ivy and redid it. Generally, they were very easy to work with. They wouldn’t complain and wouldn’t argue with you about anything. They would just come in and do a good job. I would rate them highly and use them in the future. They were very reasonable for all the work that they did. They gave us a better price than a number of providers that we had contacted. One of the other things that they did was that they would give me an email at the end of each week to let me know what to expect the following week and what we could plan on getting. If the guy who was running the thing didn’t have time to get to his email, he always gave me a voicemail that just summarized where they were on everything and what would go on next. We are probably going to have them do additional landscaping next summer. It is not fun having your whole yard and driveway torn up. However, it was far better than I had ever expected it to be, and it was pretty painless under the circumstances.

I had never seen anything like the fire/ water feature before. It was a husband and wife who owned the business. They were young people and it was a fairly small business. She designed it and showed us the picture book of the work that they had done. We liked their work and would use them again.

We have considered a walkway with steps to our front door, Adam brought us a plan that very nicely did just that but we were reluctant to cut up our front yard and need for such a walkway really didn't justify the price. He came back with an excellent plan to create an easier way to get to our front door without dividing our front yard. He brought a variety of materials and was accepting of our ideas and changes. Work was done quickly but carefully; instructions for future care were given during the final walkthru. We are very pleased having accomplished exactly what was desired.
