About 5 years ago this company installed carpet in a bedroom. Great price, service and experience.  So when it came to time to carpet the second bedroom I went to them again.

The store suggested a remnant which I appreciated. This saved me over $150.  He said it would have to be pieced and I was fine with that.

Apparently, he didn't mention that part to the sub-contracted installer.  It was a Wednesday.  The installer was late (he called with car trouble) so it didn't start off well and when he found out it had to be pieced it went downhill even further.  He literally left with the job unfinished.

I then had to make multiple calls to the store over several days.  At first they were 'too busy' to finish and wanted to wait until the next week- this while I literally have a room full of furniture scattered about my house.  Finally I convinced the store to come and finish the job before their weekend get-away.

I like the carpet and the installation ended up being good, I was just disappointed that I had to make such an effort to finish the jobs.  I had paid in full upon ordering the carpet- a lesson learned for me as they had no incentive to finish.

My wife and I were referred to this company by our realtor. I called to set up a time to have an estimate done, scheduled the time to meet, and realized that the person I had been speaking with to set this up never gave me his name or got a phone number from me. The estimate was prepared and I contacted the manager, Pat, to set up a time to have the work done. Pat was supposed to get back to me to let me know that he could have the carpet in stock and what day they were going to schedule us for (we were going to be out of town). I finally had to call to follow up with him to find out that they would in fact be able to do it while we were away (not that he told me what day it was going to be) and also what we needed to do to prepare the house for them. He simply said remove smaller breakable items that would be in the way and they had sliders to move any furniture. We have our house on the market and would have gladly packed up most of everything if it were needed. When we returned to our home a couple of days later, we found our house in complete disarray - carpet fibers everywhere, furniture randomly placed back in the rooms, and our belongings scattered throughout the kitchen and bathroom instead of back where they got them from prior to the installation of new carpet. Mind you, I expected some disarray and some level of cleaning would need to be done, but not to this extent. In further examination, we discovered that our floor in the kitchen had been damaged (cut by a knife, as if they were cutting the carpet across my kitchen floor) and the loft upstairs had a golf ball size hole ripped in the carpet where they had attempted to stretch the carpet. In addition, in moving a media cabinet that we had recently purchased, they ripped the top off. Oh, and they forgot to re-stretch the carpet in our walk-in closet. They left no note, made no indication of the damages they had done and apparently hoped we would never find them. First thing Monday morning I contacted the company to seek restitution. I spoke with Dan, the owner, and we set up a time the following Monday to go over the damages. We agreed to have him come out the following Wednesday to correct the issues. The cut was repaired/disguised (as we had agreed) and the hole upstairs was patched, they still forgot to re-stretch the closet. I had to call again on Thursday to let him know that he forgot the closet, he agreed that he knew he was forgetting to do something but couldn't remember what (although all of the belongings from the closet were in the middle of the room he had to patch a hole in). He returned to the house to fix the closet and left us an invoice for the work. I reviewed the invoice and was honestly shocked, as they intended to bill us for the full amount. No remedy for having to come back out three times, damaging our belongings, nothing. I called to ask about the invoice and I basically received silence and no offer of anything more.
Response from Flooring By Stretch-Rite
"The replacement of the carpet was professionally completed. the repairs were complete within 3 days of the call. I have been in business since 1989 and I treat customers the way I would like to be treated. Service was provided, repairs were made quick and to their satisfaction. COMPLAINT: The customer was told to move small items (moved nothing), they were to be out of town. To return he claims "we found our house in complete disarray." Also they state our belongings were scattered through the kitchen and bathroom Please take some responsibility. In regards to the piece of furniture damaged, I inspected if with the customer. A shelving unit I could not find anything wrong with. He pointed out a place in the back. he said he fixed it but wanted me to be aware of it, don't worry about it. Conclusion: I am shocked by the complaint. Sincerely Dan Hornaday."

We had severe water damage to our home and had to have all of the flooring replaced. All began well with picking out the flooring and getting it ordered. When the carpet was installed it was apparent it was not installed correctly. The seams were pulling apart, and in the hallway the carpet was installed in about 3 foot sections with visible seams. The laminate was cut too short in places and there were gaps around the wall. The shoe mold was not replaced in several places including the bathroom after the vinyl was replaced. When I called about this I was assured that this would be remedied and that all they needed to do was seal the seams. They sent someone out to do some minor repair on the laminate and he told me he knew nothing about the carpet and did not have the tools to fix the carpet. I called several times and kept getting put off, while they kept assuring me they would take care of the problem. The final time I called I was told I had to do a hot water extraction before the manufacturer would even send anyone out to look at the carpet. His quote to me was "a hot water extraction can dramatically change the look of the carpet". My response to that was "it will not restitch the bare spots in the carpet". After TWO YEARS of this back and forth I contacted an attorney and hired an independent flooring inspector. After they got the letter from the attorney the owner of the company called me and said "I got the letter from, attorney, and I have to say I'm a little miffed". I proceeded to tell him all that I had been through, who I had spoken with and promises that were made. Finally he came out personally and looked at the carpet and agreed that it was not installed correctly and the carpet was defective. Then he apologized and told me they had a lot of turnover, etc. etc. The carpet is replaced, but I still have issues with the laminate that were not addressed.

Attention to my request for service was very good. Called when the product came in and set a date for installation. Installer arrived as planned and did a good job.

They gave me the Angie's List discount & I thought that their prices were very reasonable. They also have a history of having some of the best installers which to me that means everything. They were just fantastic and I'm a very particular person. If I saw something I wasn't sure about it, they explained it to me in great detail and the owner was personable and came out to check on the work. It's a family owned company and they were always on time and the work took 5 days to complete. I would definitely use them again & I wouldn't use anyone else for this job.

Couldn't have asked for anything better! Dan was very helpful with the estimate. Helping with the selection, explaining exactly what would be done and how. Very nice letting us ''kick around'' quite a few samples for days to help decide. He let us do parts of the work to help us cut costs to meet our budget.(We removed furniture and carpet and installed quarter round to finish) Kevin and Chris, whom did the install, were awesome! They were here promptly both mornings, answered lots of questions along the way, kept the area clean the whole process. Took a total of about 12 hours. Very courteous all the way(even giving tips on the stuff we had left to finish to make it easier for us)Couldn't have asked for a better job!!!! (especially since we had 6 estimates done and I showed him a defect in the laminate on one board that was promptly removed without problems and replaced)Awesome bunch to work with. Looking forward to working with them for carpeting the bedrooms soon.

ALL OF THE WORK HAS PROBLEMS. THEY HAVE MESSED UP MY WHOLE UTILITY ROOM, BATHROOM, AND KITCHEN. I'M GOING TO HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS MORE TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE AND SHODDY WORK THAT THEY HAVE DONE. THEY DID ALL OF THE WORK WRONG, THEY DIDN'T MEASURE RIGHT, AND WHEN THEY MIXED THE GROUT THEY MIXED IT WITH WATER AND IT IS ALREADY CRACKING BECAUSE IT WAS TOO THIN AND IT HAS ONLY BEEN TWO WEEKS. THEY WATERED THE GROUT DOWN SO BAD THAT IT IS BRIGHT WHITE AND IT SHOULD BE A MEDIUM TAN. IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE. THEY WORKED INCONSISTENTLY, ONLY A COUPLE OF HOURS PER DAY AND THEN THEY WOULD LEAVE. I WOULD NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

THESE FOLKS DO GREAT FLOORS, AND ARE GOOD AT SUGGESTING CREATIVE ALTERNATIVES TO FIT WITHIN A BUDGET. THEY AREN''T GOOD ABOUT GETTING BACK WITH YOU--IF YOU DON''T HEAR FROM THEM, YOU HAVE TO CALL BACK AND REMIND THEM. THE INSTALLERS WOULD DO WELL TO RUN A SWEEPER WHEN THEY''RE DONE--IT WOULD MAKE THE FINISHED PRODUCT LOOK BETTER AND THEY DO LEAVE A TRAIL OF CARPET LINT, ETC FROM YOUR FRONT DOOR TO WHERE THEY''RE TAKING IT. NICE FOLKS.
