So impressed with this company. They quoted a price to replace my cap. When they got up there they found the old cap had just blown off so they reinstalled it and charged me less. Good, honest business

We paid $168 for the inspection of four fireplaces in a home we tried to purchase. The inspector was courteous and showed up on time. His ballpark estimates for the work the day he was there totaled $40K. Weeks of calling and I could never get a written estimate to share with the sellers. It was very frustrating. We had to call another company who came right away and sent an estimate before leaving the property (and didn't charge us anything for the estimate or inspection). Their total estimate was half the cost of this company. We'd used Ely Stokes for our fireplace in our own home and had a good experience, but based on our latest interaction, I'd never use them or recommend them. I'm guessing we also overpaid.

Great communication and easy to deal with. Contact right away to schedule a date for the service. They arrived exactly on time. Our technician, Zach, was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. He took extra care in making sure everything was clean and safe. The work performed was perfect, and our fireplace is well cleaned and ready for use. We would certainly hire them again to perform the same quality work and recommend them to others.

Excellent. John called saying he was on his way and arrived as scheduled. He wore shoe covers in the house and spread a large cloth in front of the fire place. He inspected and cleaned both the fire box and chimney and cleaned the gas logs. John made sure no soot or mess got on the floor. I was impressed with his cleanliness. Very professional and it was obvious that he is an expert at his job.

The inspection went fine, but a problem was found and that's where the trouble began. I asked for an estimate to perform the repairs and got a daily runaround and no estimate. Finally i began calling twice a day so eli stokes sent me an estimate that basically stated new wood burning fireplace, $20k. No details at all. I called another well regarded company and got a new fireplace, chimney, chimney cap and vent cap for $8k. The eli stokes service techs are great, the office stinks.

Stephanie in the showroom helped us pick out exactly what we wanted. She was knowledgeable about the types of logs (vented, pilots, remotes, styles) and was able to special order a new type of log. Logs were installed a week later by John who arrived on time, put down tarps and was very neat, meticulously arranged the the sand, embers, and logs, and answered my numerous questions about the pilot light and damper. We are very happy with the gas logs and the service we received. The logs were priced similar to other log vendors' but their install price was lower than others.

Called for cleaning and young man showed up, and because it didn't need much cleaning, did the job in less than one hour. However, he could not give me a quote on the exterior chimney work. He said he would ask the owner to get back with me. But apparently the owner never bothered. Even after I called him later to ask about his schedule. (The receptionist said they had misplaced my file.) And so it goes. So, as a total no-show, Ely Stokes gets a big fat "F" from this customer.

The chimney sweep showed up an hour after the given hour-long window of time and did not apologize or acknowledge his lateness at all. There was no call to let me know he was running behind either. When I called the office after waiting for an extra half hour, the woman just told me that he was running behind and that's how it is with services like these. I foolishly asked him about my discounted price before he showed me the total. He had written up a lower amount, and my question made him catch it, so he charged me the higher amount. There was absolutely no effort to compensate me for their multiple errors. They clearly do not care about treating their customers fairly or valuing their time.

The representative was on-time and very professional. He explained what he was doing and what I could do to help maintain my fireplace throughout the year. He also was very careful to make sure my carpet didn't get dirty from cleaning the fireplace. I'll definitely use them again.

This is a follow-up to my previous (premature?) positive review I quit wanting to deal with my wood burning fireplace and decided I wanted gas logs and went to Eli Stokes’ store. I left them top reviews as they scheduled the work, and their people and sub-contractor seemed pleasant and efficient. Then the device quit working in less than 2 weeks, they tried to fix it 5 weeks later, it failed again, and they changed their story about what was wrong. I paid $2,543.75 for logs where, if I wish to use them, I must crawl on the floor, dismantle the logs, wipe down around the pilot, relight and reassemble every few days. I asked them what’s wrong but they will not even respond to my e-mails now they have cashed my checks.

Chimney work was poor quality. Joints on brick work were larger than the joints on the house making it look very rough to the eye and not fit in. Worse was the concrete cap. It was flat to undulating and will hold, not shed water. The installers did not vibrate the concrete and there are air pocket poch marks all around the side of the cap. When I called them about the problem, I was told our quote did not specify the cap would be sloped to shed water. This is common practice in the industry. They did quote they would do the work per the Brick Institute of America standard. I ran down this standard and it calls for a slope. provided this to them, but no comment. Their office offered to cover the poor job with a stainless cap if I paid them $200. Their office will not communicate in writing with me, but wants to do everything over the phone so there are no records. I wrote them a nice note asking them to correct the problem at their expense when the weather breaks by removing the wrong part and re-pouring the correct cap. So far they have not written me back and seem unwilling to correct their mistake.
