I called Easy Air heating and air conditioning, Inc at 317.842.3600 and they fixed both problems for $234 total. Instead of paying $1000 with Service plus, I paid only $234 with Easy Air. It has worked great ever since.
They have earned my trust! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company and will be using them when I have to replace my old unit!!
There were a couple other minor troubleshooting/tune up items on the A/C unit itself. I got a call 1st thing today and Jim Gwin's son performed the services. He installed a new safety switch near the A/C unit, plus the tune-up items. This is the 3rd time I have used Easy Air for heat/cooling issues. I can't say enough good things about their service.
UPDATE 6/13/14.
Yesterday afternoon late I noticed A/C just didn't seem to be working correctly. Called and left Jim a voice mail at 8AM today. Called back and said he would be here in 45 minutes. He checked out the unit and found that the circuit breaker had been turned off. I mentioned that I had an electrician here yesterday that had the panel off doing some work for the inspection list for my house sale.
Jim Gwin said that either the electrician turned the switch off, or more likely, it tripped when the panel was removed or put back on. NO CHARGE!!! I just can't say enough about how great Jim and his son Matt are.
Then I remembered that I had used Easy Air Heating in the past and I searched for them on Angies List and found their number and called them. They came out the same day (after juggling their schedule around). Matt Gwin arrived and hour or so later and fixed the unit for $168.73 and said he didn't know what the other company was talking about unless they were just trying to sell me on getting a new unit.
So, if you are ever looking for a good and honest company, call these guys. They will fix your unit if they can. If you really need a new one, then you can trust them that you do. They are family run and they are not out to take advantage of you! I can testify to that!
Dear
Sir:
You
were requested to service the AC unit at the above address under a
warranty service call as it was a brand new unit installed by your
company. Originally, your company said they would not repair the
unit until paid by a third party who ordered the installation. After
a lengthy and disagreeing discussion with Jim Gwin, the owner, he
said he would repair it and would have someone out on 7/16/12. On
7/14/12, your technician Matt Gwin called and asked to go to the
house to do the repair. I told Matt I was not there, but that he
could go if he didn't need me there.
Matt
arrived and called me at some point. I was unable to take or return
that call until lunch time on 7/14/12. Matt told me the unit had
been vandalized. I told him I was not available to meet and review
the vandalism due to the fact I was at an event with my son all day.
He told me he had already made most of the repairs anyway, and there
was no need for me to come to the house.
I
received your attached bill for $833.66. Your company was called out
to service the unit as it was under warranty. These repairs and the
cost were never approved. While I was not able to inspect the
vandalism that Matt attested to, I do recognize that a warranty would
not cover work due to deliberate tampering.
I
have a contractor who I use for my HVAC service regularly at my
rentals and at my home when needed. He is licensed, and is at my house doing other renovations. I would have never approved the
repair by your company outside of warranty work, especially in the
amount of $833.66. Your company was called strictly because the unit
was under warranty. I had my contractor evaluate your receipt and
the unit and asked him to prepare an estimate on what he would have
charged me for the same repair based on your invoice and his
inspection. He is who I would have hired for such a repair. His
estimate is attached and is for $585.
I
am willing to put an end to this disagreement and pay your company
$585 for the repair. I list the following reasons:
The
initial disagreement with Jim over him servicing the unit that was
under warranty was not agreed to until I told him I would report
this to Angie's List and the BBB.
The
date of the repair was changed with little notice.
The
repairman said I was not needed at the house.
I
never had the opportunity to inspect and confirm that there was
indeed vandalism done to the unit, thereby making this a
non-warranty service call.
I
never, nor would I have ever, approved a repair by your company
outside of the warranty.
I
never, nor would I have ever, approved the repair in the amount of
$833.66.
I
have a licensed HVAC vendor who I use regularly who is more
competitive in pricing.
The
same vendor is already at the house doing repairs over the next 3-4
weeks, and would thereby be available quickly for that repair.
If
you agree to this settlement in an attempt to put this matter to
rest, please send me a revised bill for $585, and I will pay it
promptly. By your sending that bill, and my payment, that matter
will be considered paid in full by both parties.
Please
make all correspondence in writing as I want a record of this
transaction.
While
I understand you may not think this is fair, I ask you to consider my
position and put yourself in my shoes. I am not refusing to pay, but
rather offering a fair settlement for your company, and costing me
100% what it would have had I had the opportunity to inspect the
damage, approve the repair, and the amount.
