Deck Works demolished the small wood deck at the back of our house and installed a much larger, composite deck. We provided a draft design of what we wanted and Deck Works not only completely nailed it but finished the project well in advance of when we originally thought it would even be possible! Communication from the lead contact (Jason) was frequent from start to finish and Jason made sure we were completely satisfied. The construction crew did an outstanding job throughout, including keeping debris at the construction site minimal throughout, which was important to us given we have several young and very curious children. Would wholeheartedly recommend Deck Works for any deck project!

Our finished deck is simply beautiful we couldn't be happier with the work they did. Our point of contact was Jason and he was very professional and honest. Our old deck the wood was layed down in angles and Jason advised to lay them all in one direction as it will look nice and clean. Plus he said it save money on materials and labor. He was right it looked very clean and sharp. We had some changes that we thought of during the middle of the project but they handled it without any issues or setbacks. Jose and his crew worked meticulously throughout the project. Their finished work speaks volumes. When we swap out our lattice in the future, they already have my business. Last year, Deckworks installed an entire second floor walkout deck. All Trex board, fortress handrail and a RainEscape drainage system. All was fantastic. This year they reconstructed 550 sq foot main deck to trex and fortress rail system. Next year they will be doing a deck stairs to the lake. Andy, Jason and Josè are not only great to work with but their end product is superb. They do things right, do not cut corners, and go out of their way to make sure everything is up to the customers expectation. Done such a great job, I’m hiring them again next year. A++++

They did a fantastic job!

West Design & Build specializes in decks. We had a 25 year old 2nd floor balcony in need of replacement (rotting wood, mildew). Our job was small enough that Jason was able to work us in between larger jobs. His crew dismantled the “demi-lune” shaped balcony and, with some improvisation, was able to build the replacement from scratch, using the old wood shapes as a pattern. Finally, they were able to reattach the wrought iron railing, and provide drainage areas (8 hours, $1300).We also had a 2nd floor deck that needed its support posts replaced (4 hours, $675). All trash was cleaned up and taken away for disposal within 8 hrs of completion of the project. For any deck project, we highly recommend this company, with its extremely knowledgeable crew of deck builders/replacers.

Jason and Andy took my requirements and delivered an awesome deck. The build crew was not subcontractors and did great work. They were courteous and respectful in both the build and dealing with issues that arise building a structure. Will be referring my friends.

With so many companies in the Indianapolis area to choose from, hiring the right company for a home project can be quite stressful. However, after our initial consultation with Andy and Jason the search was over. They were incredibly efficient, professional, knowledgeable and most importantly trustworthy. I never dreamed that our basement could look so modern and beautiful! From start to finish, the process was flawless! Their team did a great job I stalling the trex decking and cedar screened in porch. They meet my vision for the project without much back and forth. Went well. Jason was extremely responsive to all of my questions and requests. Jose and his crew were a great bunch of guys who produced a fine product. The clean up was great. I could not find even any nails in the lawn where the torn down materials had been deposited until pick-up. One problem was that the original estimate did not include fascia along the stairs. I thought that it had. I would recommend that any future Angie's List users clarify this. At any rate, this turned out to be a minor problem which was amicably resolved. We used TimberTech decking. It will take several years before I am able to provide any information about the long term beauty and durability of the product.

The fence looks superb. They accommodated every request promptly. They started the work within a few days of our accepting their estimate, completed it timely.

My deck was replaced and the work is outstanding. Three years later and this company, and owner, stand behind their product and make it right for the customer. Outstanding character and integrity.

Went fantastic. Andy could get his crew to us about a month and a half earlier than other businesses we'd contacted, and another friend had recommended Deck Works to us. Their estimate was similar to other contractors, but hard to imagine we'd love our deck any more than we do. Jose', the crew foreman, was great, as he took every change in our requests as the deck took shape in stride with a smile, and his guys were great waving to our boys throughout the days they were working, as our 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 boys were mesmerized by their activity. We seriously couldn't be more thrilled with our new deck and highly recommend Andy and his guys for anyone.

Working with Deck Works was smooth from start to finish.  I called for an estimate in early spring.  Andy responded the next day to set an appointment.  We set an appointment for the following week.  Andy arrived on time for the appointment and had some great ideas for our new deck.  He was obviously interested in helping us solve some problems we had with our old deck and not just trying to get in and out of the appointment as quickly as possible.  He prepared an estimate shortly thereafter which was very competitive.  Based on the estimate, we hired Deck Works.  Andy called three days in advance of the work beginning.  The crew arrived on time and began their work.
Let me tell you, I have hired many contractors for various jobs at three different homes and I found the Deck Works crew to be among the most professional, cordial craftsman I have ever experienced.  As a person who is hard to please, I am happy to report how pleased I was with Andy's crew.  They dealt with my concerns and plan revisions incredibly well.  Their attention to detail was quite frankly - surprising.  After three days of work, Deck Works completed a new beautiful cedar deck that we are enjoying.  I, obviously, would hire the Deck Works crew to complete any construction task I have in the future - and I will.

This is the 3rd time that I have used Deck Works.  Responsive, professional, and they do a great job.  We had a pergola put up in our old home and they did the same at our new home as well as some decorative planters last year.  This completes the project for us and we're very pleased with how it turned out.  I would highly recommend them.

I was originally going to replace the deck floor myself - but when I pulled up the decking I discovered that the foundation boards needed replacing as well.  Mr. West came out and discussed options.  His proposal in late July was better than others, and the cost of increasing from treated wood to composite flooring and rail still came in cheaper than another proposal we were seriously considering.  I had some proposal specifics that I e-mailed to Mr West and he readily included them into the final statement of work that I signed.
Mr West had originally informed me that it was likely that the work wouldn't be done until shortly after Labor Day.  The only complaints that I had were of the communication nature.
When trying to get a status update on when work would start, Mr. West did not consistently respond to my e-mail requests, and I found that calling him worked better.  And there were definitely disconnects in trying to get a handle on when the work would begin.  Late in August I talked to Mr West - he thought he had told me when it would start, but he hadn't yet.  He subsequently sent me an e-mail stating it would be the week of Sept 8th.  Right after Labor Day I called to find out what day he would start.  He thought he had told me it would start on Sept 8th.
Another problem occurred during the 1st day.  Fortunately I was home to observed that the way the workers were laying out the deck foundation would preclude there being a recessed step, as detailed in the plans I had signed off on.  The lead worker, Jose, showed me his drawing that called for a step that was outside the border of the deck, not recessed into the deck.  However, when I showed him the plan I had signed off on he readily modified the foundation layout to accommodate the recessed step we were expecting.
The workers appeared to be highly skilled at what they were doing, and my wife and I are very pleased with the end result.  The work was mostly completed on Sept 8 & 9.  One worker, Sam, came back on Sep 11 (it rained most of the day on Sep 10) and finished the fence work.  All the workers were very polite, willingly answered my questions, and let me take lots of pictures so that I had a record of how it was installed.
The only other problem was a disconnect at final billing.  Sam had told me to expect a final invoice in the mail.  When I got the final invoice via e-mail from Mr. West he had forgotten to include the Angie's List member discount, that he had agreed to back in August.  However, Mr West did acknowledge that the discount should have been included in the final invoice, and accepted payment accordingly.
It is for these above communication issues that I downgraded to "B" for the categories of "Responsiveness" and "Professionalism".  The responsiveness and professionalism of the workers themselves, and the work that they did was definitely "A".
Overall, my wife and I are very pleased, and we would definitely be willing to use Deck Works again.

From initial contact to the end of the job, Andy and his staff performed very professional and exhibited great skill in deck building and problem solving. His is a man of his word and delivers everything agreed on.

Deck Works came to my home and took my ideas and fine tuned them into a beautiful deck. Andy listened to what we wanted and sent us a drawing within a few days that captured exactly what we wanted! The project started on time and moved quickly until we hit a snag with our HOA that stopped work. Andy was proactive in resolving this problem that was my fault and got the guys back quickly to finish the job. Oh, the crew was fantastic as well. We would not hesitate to use Deck Works in the future.

I spoke with several Angie's list companies and Deck Works owner Andy stood out as a really honest good guy. This was reinforced when a gentleman's handshake was good enough to secure his services. Andy and his crew showed up on the day and time agreed and gave me a time line for the work to be completed in. The crew were super friendly and very polite. They were fantastic with my dog and the children loved them. The project was completed on time with the clean up afterwards being outstanding. Apart from the great remodel you wouldn't know I had contractors in the yard. The final price had no hidden surprises in just as promised. What we shook hands on was what I paid; something which I'm my experience is a rarity these days. Neighbors are already asking for Deck Works details. Overall DECK WORKS and Owner Andy are an exceptional company who deliver what they promise to a very high standard. His crew do amazing work. I can't wait to get Deck Works back for my next project.
