"Thank you for the review. We look forward to cleaning for you again!"
After reading recent reviews on Angie's List, I decided to use Classic Cleaners to have a stadium blanket dry cleaned. This was my first visit to this location (the last time that I had done business with the company was at their College Park address back in the 1990's). The manager insisted on my giving her my email address ("They want me to do this- I get into trouble if I don't ask") and I reluctantly gave it to her after she explained that Classic would let me know by email when my blanket would be ready for pickup. She also said that the dry cleaning would help to eliminate pilling that was on the blanket. According to the receipt, the work was supposed to have been completed by the following Tuesday but there was no email that evening or the next morning (Wednesday). I called on Wednesday and the manager told me that, yes, my blanket was ready to be picked up. She brought out my blanket (folded on hanger and in plastic), hung it on a hook, and asked, "Well, what do you think?" I took the blanket from under the plastic and off the hanger and immediately found several (some over 6 inches) blonde hairs all over the blanket (I am bald so they aren't mine!). I know that these weren't there before I dropped the blanket off at Classic as my mother had repaired some pulls in the blanket a few weeks prior and we didn't find any hairs at that time. Let me explain about the blanket- it is one of a limited edition of slightly more than 300 that were made in 1991 as part of a trim option on Dodge automobiles that year (part of a "Track Pack" that also included items such as an umbrella, can koozies, a bandana, etc.). I bought it for its collector status. According to the manufacturer's label, I could have laundered it safely at home (it is 100% acrylic) but I wanted to insure its condition, hence the dry cleaning. When I pointed out the hairs (and the fact that all of the pills were still on the blanket), the manager started yelling at me ("What did you expect? It's an old blanket!"). I then told her that I was not going to pay for the cleaning due to the hairs that found their way to the blanket while Classic had it and she then yelled, "Why are you guys always doing this?" "What guys? Doing what?" I replied. She said, "Always coming in here and leaving without paying!" By this time, I had had enough and started to walk out. She then screamed, "Don't ever come back here then!"
I got a call a few hours later from April in management at Classic. To her credit, she asked for my side of the story and then, after patiently listening to what I had to say, assured me that I wouldn't be charged for the "cleaning." She also apologized profusely for her employee's conduct and suggested that I take the blanket to the North Michigan Road location for another try. I told her that I would think about it and thanked her for her time.
After I got home from work this evening, I examined the blanket more thoroughly and discovered, to my horror, that Classic managed to lose the manufacturer's washing instructions label (it was snugly sewn on when my mother did the mending a few weeks back). Along with laundering instructions, this label proudly listed "Made in USA" on it (the other items in the Track Pack were mostly imported from China).
Needless to say, I won't be giving Classic Cleaners any more business.
