When I called to inquire about my order, it turned out to be after hours, so I had to leave a message. They are not open on weekends. I assumed they would return my call on Monday, July 22. This, by the way, would have been exactly 14 days after placing my order, which was supposed to have taken 5 days at the most to complete. I was completely astounded when they did not return my call. I called again on Tuesday and was able to speak to someone who seemed to be having trouble finding my order. I had to wait for someone else to call me back to let me know what was going on, and even then I'm not sure exactly what the mix-up was. I think my order was lost or had never been placed, but it was never fully explained. I was only told that my order had now been moved to the and quot;top of the list.and quot; When we were finally notified that the glass was ready, my husband went to pick it up on Friday, July 26. (We had elected to pick up rather than have it delivered, since it would have cost us an additional $90 for the six-mile distance.) He was expecting upon arrival to receive some kind of apology and reparation for the fact that we had received such bad service and were quite unhappy with our experience. However, this did not happen. There was no adequate apology, just a person holding her hand out for the rest of our payment.
The next day, Saturday, my husband placed the large piece of glass on top of the desk so that I could unwrap it, and it was then that we discovered the glass was not the right size. Of course we had to wait until Monday to call, since they're not open on weekends, and during the call my husband had to remind them that they were the ones who had taken the measurements. Again, the person with whom he spoke did not seem to care that yet another thing had gone wrong. A couple days later the technician came back to our house and saw that he had mismeasured. I will say that he apologized, and he did go back and have a new piece manufactured for us. They delivered this and took away the first piece without charge.
The quality of the work is fine, and the original price was fine. However, I was unhappy that my order was lost, that my phone call was not returned (I think this one bothers me most of all!), that it took us more than two weeks to receive our order, that the work was not done right the first time, and that no offer of recompense was made in an effort to appease an unhappy customer. If only one of these first four things had happened, I would not have been bothered. But when a customer has to go through so much, and the employees and/or management don't seem to care, it seems to me that the business does not value customer satisfaction. For this reason I cannot recommend Carmel Glass and Mirror to others.
