I had a program loaded for 5 years that suddenly developed a problem and quit running for me. Contained over a decade of stored information, and was very important to me. Due to some misunderstandings, the backup we thought had been occurring regualry had NOT been, and this program and the information could not be restored normally. Doug and Andrew tried several preliminary things, but these did not work. Spoke with me about options and were very responsive to my goals... they understood exactly what I was wiling to pay, and wanted them to do. Work was done in a timely fashion. I now have my data back. I realize that some of what they did could have been done by me, but I don't like or understand computers and it was worth it to me to have them do it for me. They were transparent throught. As an aside, they have done much more difficuilt work for my husband's bsuienss, and have always been knowledgeable and professional. I would always, always try them first for any computer problem. Anyone who says they are too expensive: do the work yourself, if you feel it's not worth it. See how that goes for you. We LOVE Bray Tech!
I brought the computer home and within 24 hours I started having the same problems again (before I took it in to be serviced). I took it back to Bray they diagnosed it again and found that the graphics card had failed. Again, they quickly replaced the component, at a cost of $10 for the shipping of the card, and returned the computer.
Within a week the computer stopped working again (same problem). This time I called Bray back to see what they could do for me since the problem had not been resolved. The lady that answered the phone basically told me that since I am no longer under warranty anything they do will cost me money. I told her that the work they did should still be covered by the warranty since I brought it in under warranty and the problem was not fixed. Again she told me that if they worked on it it would most likely cost me money.
At this point I told her that I was going to call Apple to see what they would do. She preceded to tell me how they would be less helpful and mostly likely won't even try and repair the computer b/c it was 4 years old. She was not very helpful and a little rude in talking over me. Not sure if talking to the actual technician directly would've been more productive and helpful or not.
Regardless, I was done dealing with that inadequate service at Bray and called Applecare and told them my story. They promptly scheduled me an appointment at the nearby Apple Store for the same day. I took it to the Apple Store and they diagnosed it while I waited. The technician told me that the graphics card was bad. I told the technician that it had been replaced already by Bray for $10. He took down the entire story to report to Apple and then checked my computer in to be fixed. They returned my computer 2 days later at no cost to me with a new graphics card. The computer is running great (1 week so far) with no problems. The Apple technician informed me if I have the problem again within the next 90 days i will be covered under warranty at no cost to me.
Prompt, darn nice guy who knows his stuff and helped make our life a whole lot easier! We are a small business and like to support locally owned businesses. Bray Technologies is one to support!
They called me within a few days and left a message. I returned the call and, as I suspected, it would cost nearly as much for them to fix/upgrade my laptop as it would be to purchase a new one. My hard drive was shot, they said, and they would have to special order it from the manufacturer since my computer was so old. I declined their offer for repair and I picked up my computer the next day.
It was a very easy process and they were helpful and good at communicating with me. I would certainly use Bray Technologies again in the future.
Second, it was difficult to actually speak with the technicians in their office. You wouldn't think this to be the case at a small business. However, the office manager was the person who I had to communicate with during most of my phone calls and office visits. Although friendly, this person really did not know much about computers. Whenever I had questions, this person would provide responses that were either really vague or lacking in the information I was requesting. Basically, I had to continually press Bray Technologies to tell me what it was they were actually doing to diagnose the problem.
Overall, it’s disappointing that they could not identify the problem, as I spent $100 and a decent amount of time on the phone with them and driving to and from their office. For these reasons, I do not plan to seek out their services in the future. My suggestion to Bray Technologies is to increase the communication between the actual technicians and the customer. Further, the business likely needs more equipment and tools/know-how to assess a broader range of software and hardware variables.
"The unit was dropped off for carry in repair with the following problem description: laptop is crashing, having a blue screen ( client has a document in the folder regarding this issues ) The technician performed Dell's hardware diagnostics and the system's hardware passed the tests. The technician checked for viruses and found the system was virus infected. The tech performed a virus cleanup and installed all updates to windows. The system ran in our lab for two hours with no issues. The client called in complaining of the same issue after the 30 day warranty period had passed. The manager extended the warranty and had the technician diagnose it for free. The technician ran all the diagnostics again but could not get the system to fail while it was in our lab. Summary: We guarantee all our work! We employ certified technician using state of the art equipment and diagnostic tools! We care about our clients and try to make everyone happy! How many companies will honor an expired warranty to take care of their clients! We did! Doug Bray President Bray Technologies Inc."
