BMO Harris Bank

I have been with the same bank for 15 years, but no more. An electronic payment I was expecting was delayed by a day so I deposited cash at an ATM to cover my rent check after work, about 7 pm. Neither web banking nor mobile banking showed the check in the system yet. The next day it appeared that the check and both deposits were in process. Good, right? No, because the rent check had already been returned. I didn't find out until they sent me an email at the close of business, although web and mobile banking still showed the check and deposits as being in process. I called customer service and was told that they would send an email in the morning to the appropriate department to try to stop the check from being returned. I asked how that could possibly work if the check was already returned, and why it still looked okay online. I was accused of not understanding how things work and of trying to "play the system" by writing a bad check. I called my branch manager at 8 a.m. the next day, and he confirmed that the check had been returned the previous morning -- again, this was while web and mobile banking showed it in process with deposits totaling more than enough to cover it. I had to go through the humiliation of calling my landlord, paying penalties to him and to the bank, and having that negative item on my record. Both parties did try to sell me on an overdraft protecting plan. I am now looking for a good credit union.

They are always very pleasant. If I have any questions about other banking things other than just cashing a check they are always very courteous and very helpful.
