Jon was very helpful. He answered all of my questions, and was very informative. He understood my 'inexperienced' language and directed me to the best fit bike. He also explained the benefits of different levels of bikes and when and why you would want to buy something different. I wanted more of a leisure bike. Something to get around on comfortably and effectively. I don't ride in races or long distances. The bike he recommended was a great fit, and he showed me how to adjust the seat and what height it should be at. He also helped me with accessories as I wanted a basket on the back. He could have just sold me the most expensive bike since I had no clue what I was doing, but he didn't. He really took the time to help me and listen to what I wanted. I was so impressed and I haven't stopped talking about my bike since I bought it. It was easily one of the better shopping experiences I have had.

I recently decided to start bicycling again and wanted to decide whether to purchase a new bicycle or use my existing, approximately 10-15 year old bike. I had previously done a bit of research on the internet and visited two other bicycle shops and a large sporting goods store. I wasn't sure whether I would visit Bicycle Outfitters because it isn't located near my home, but am glad I stopped in one day when I was in the area.
I was fortunate to be attended by the owner, who is I believe the third generation in his family to own and operate this store. He was very knowledgable about the different types of bikes and the features and benefits of different models with various types of components and price points. I tried a few bicycles in the store and then test-rode the one I liked best in the lot outside the store. (The alternatives I had been considering were various types of hybrid or comfort bicycles primarily for exercise/fitness and pleasure purposes.)
I decided to buy a Fuji women's step-through type hybrid bicycle. I believe the price was quite a bit better than that I had seen for comparable bicycles in the other two bicycle shops. This was in part because it included the kick-stand and a bell, but even after considering the cost of these two small items, I believe the price was better considering the quality of the shifters, and other features and I feel that the attention and quality of advice was very good. I also understand that I will have the opportunity for a recheck of the bicycle as it breaks in and that there will be an ongoing warranty of the bicycle for its lifetime, offered by the store. All of these make it worthwhile for me to purchase from a local company even though it is a bit out of the way.

They told me what they thought was wrong with the bike when I dropped it off (free wheel or free hub) and that it would probably be more expensive to rebuild what we had than to replace the wheel. They ordered a new wheel, performed a tune-up and installed the wheel when it arrived.
