Allan checked out operation, gave report, called his office for work cost, took TV to shop, TV was repaired in two days (two days to two week estimate). Allan re-installed, checked it out. It works great. $380 seemed expensive to me, but everything seems expensive to me. Much less than a new TV. (BTW Diagnostic visit: $75, Down payment $150, both included in $380 total).

I paid for someone to come out and diagnose why my television was not working. While the guy did arrive on time. i know he did not have enough equipment to tell me what the actual problem was, not only that but his English was so broken he was impossible to understand. So all and all i paid for someone to come to my house for half an hour, not tell me what was wrong, but that it would cost 290.00 to fix. I then asked him if he knew any companies in the area that puchased broken tvs and he then offered me 30.00 for it to which i obviously turned down for a 2010 46in tv. He also seemed irritated that i turned his offer down and he left one of the screws he removed from the back of the tv lose inside the tv. A note to all repairmen my things are not yours wether its working or not if you dont fix it, at least leave it how you found it. What a rip off.
Response from A Affordable TV Sales and Service
"The repair man did a proper diagnose of the TV and explained to the costumer how much it would cost for the repair. There are many components to a TV and to have all the parts necessary to repair a TV with a clue that is not turning is very difficult to do. The repair man explain this to customer that parts where needed to be ordered and the total cost would be $290.00. So a diagnose was given, A quote for parts and was also labor was given. So the the technician did what he was supposed to do. We are sorry that the costumer did not like the price or the technicians accent. But he did do what he was paid to do."

My tv would not turn on but it did have power. The power light would only flicker when the remote was pointed at the tv. The tech arrived on time and was pleasant. My biggest problem was that the fix was so simple that the person on the phone should have had me do it before sending a tech and charging me for a full price service call.
All I had to do was unplug the TV and then plug it back in. That will apparently reboot the TV like a computer reboots. The tech told me they get a lot of these calls. I will not use a company that I feel takes advantage of such a simple fix. My plumber and electrician always walk me through basic fixes before coming out for a service call. This keeps me from wasting my money and their time on basic stuff. It also keeps me calling them for the real problems because I feel I can trust them not to take advantage. Affordable TV Sales might want to rethink their business model.

It was discouraging but not completely unexpected. I learned afterward that this particular model 28Sony Bravia 52" had a history of such problems. Perhaps for better customer relations they could have told me that over the phone?

I purchased a nice but used tv from this company a few years ago and I have used them several times for repairs. I have not had a problem specifically, however I feel like no matter what I call them out for it's always $300. It just seems a bit expensive. This last time I mentioned an Angie's List discount and I have a feeling I did not receive it. The technician said he would just waive the labor charge but once again it was $300! That always makes me feel like I am not receiving a deal but instead the company is just building it back into the bill somehow. Otherwise, I am happy with the repairs and the turn around time for appointments. They also sell really nice tv's for cheap!

This is the first time I've ever had a flat panel television repaired so I have nothing to compare it to. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Had to order parts which cost $200 and they didn't come in for a couple of weeks. TV works fine now so I will give them an A for repairing it and being friendly and keeping me informed about the status of my repair.
For $370.00 I could have just bought a new set but this particular unit has the best picture I've seen on a 42" regardless of cost so I was willing to have it repaired.

I called and repairman came out the same day. After a short time he came to tell me that it was the power supply and he could either repair the device for about 400$ or replace it for almost 500$. I decided to go with a replacement in this case. He took the TV back to the shop with him and had it back to me in 3 days. He gave a 60 day warranty on the repair. The repairman was even nice enough to return to my home after I had forgotten he was coming out that afternoon. By the time I remembered and raced home, he had gone and left a note with his cell phone number. He was very understanding and did not seem upset that I had missed him and turned around to bring it back to my house.
