We were attempting to get glass block installed "during" our master bath renovation by another company. Initially called to request a quote as A-1 is the company suggested by our bathroom renovators. No response from the first voicemail. Tried again...still no response. Finally got a call back on the third try; they were able to come over and give a quote. Quote was emailed, which we responded to with some edits (prior to paying the deposit), but said they should be able to fit us in at any time within a few days of the bath install. They NEVER responded to our request for edits so we didn't pay a deposit; however, when we called back to follow-up before the bathroom install, they said it would now be 5-6 weeks out because we didn't pay the deposit. Customer service and communication need a great deal of work. We were able to find a local competitor who was able to turn our request around in 3 days due the emergency need for our master bath install. Would highly recommend them.

He required a $200 deposit for an install of May 14, he didn’t show the. Rescheduled and didn’t keep that date either. It thought my entire project and I consequently lost the start date with my contractor. Chris Callahan attempted to force me to accept a date which he had someone else cancel on him. When I couldn’t and eventually asked for a refund, he refused to give it to me. We had a conversation at the beginning in which he assured me that if anything changed on our end with regard to the design that my deposit was refundable. Well he is refusing to refund my money and is not answering my calls nor returning them. So I have no glass block installed and he has my $200.

Horrible, no glass block and is now is refusing to refund my deposit. He didn’t keep the install date and has proven to be unreliable. I will have to sue if he doesn’t refund my money.
Response from A-1 Glass Block, Inc.
"I went on April 18, to give the member an estimate. I explained that we were 4 to 5 weeks out for install, saying I would try to do by May 14th. Originally she asked how much for the quote if she supplied the block. I emailed her a quote with a price to use her block that she supplied and a price to use our block that we supplied. She did not accept the order until April 29th, using our block. I explained we were still 4 to 5 weeks behind and will try to do it by the end of May. About the last week of May I asked her, by email, if we could install it on June 14 and she said what happened to the end of May. I emailed her back saying we had a lot of rain in May but I could do it Monday, June 3 She responded she understood and that would be fine. We had the window made and we’re all prepped for installation when she left us a message after hours on Thursday, May 30 saying her contractors were putting her on hold for a while and she wanted to put our window installation on hold. It was too late to get another job for that Monday so we lost a full days work. The middle of July she emailed me stating that she was not going to do the work and wanted a refund. I emailed back saying we had the window made and that you canceled at the last minute causing us to lose a days work and that I would not be refunding the money. After some back-and-forth she said she was going to sue me unless I refund the money. I told her she breached the contract and we would be entitled to keep money for expenses and profit we would have made on the job so I wouldn’t be refunding the deposit. She does not want to accept this and wants to argue. After some back-and-forth about it I did not want to get into that and have just emailed her and not returned her calls. I would still be willing to install the window but we will not refund the money."

They did an awesome job. I’m very happy with my new windows. Will definitely be working with them again on another project. They fixed things they noticed that wasn’t apart of the original project. I truly appreciate there business.

Pretty good process. I contacted A-1, they came out and left a quote for me in the next couple of days. After looking at various reviews the price seemed fair so I sent them the deposit and they were able to come out within a couple of weeks.
Nice people doing quick work that looks sharp. I appreciated that the extra mortar was used here and there on my basement walls rather than just wasted.

. I  Called for an estimate and  Mr. Chris  Callahan came out  August 8, 2015  and  talked with me about  what I  wanted, the windows looked so difficult  to do they were old  basement  windows, the house was built 1965. Mr. Callahan showed  the sample  of  what  he sold and told what would be best. I choose the Decora  block. He came out  9/16/15  and  installed  them with his helper. they done an  awesome job. I found him to be humble and honest. I had called another company before and was surprise at the contract  and what it stated. I am  so pleased  with the work and the warranty. I would hire  again. I am so THANKFUL!!!

Went well.  Job got scheduled earlier than expected.   I would not have known they were there if I did not see the new windows.   Left no mess.  Good communication.  Keep up good work.

A-1 Glass Block is the least reliable service provider I've encountered. First they lost the paperwork to estimate the job - accidentally attached it to another job. When I called them to ask what happened - they went looking for it. Then I tried to schedule the work. I was told - it's a small job we will fit you in within the next 2 weeks. I heard nothing from them. I called and said let's just schedule which we did for 11/4 at 9 am. He didn't show up, he didn't call - nothing.

We are extremely happy with the job that A-1 Glass Block did replacing our old basement windows with new glass block windows. The new windows look fantastic and are markedly more energy efficient than the old windows we had in the basement. Additionally, A-1 Glass Block was kind enough to use the same glass block that we have in our bathroom despite the fact that it's from a different manufacturer than the glass block they usually use. They also were very flexible in terms of the pattern of the glass block layout for the windows. Once they came out and gave us the final dimensions of the glass blocks that would be required to make our new windows, we were allowed to draw up our own pattern for placement of the glass blocks. They followed our design perfectly, and we are very impressed with the outcome.
In terms of pricing and service, A-1 was also top-notch. The price they charged for removing and disposal of the old windows and concrete ledges plus installation of the new windows was markedly lower than I anticipated. Since our windows have non-standard dimensions, it would have cost significantly more for us to purchase pre-made glass block windows from Home Depot and install them ourselves. Installation day was also a breeze. I took an extended lunch break and met them at my home. Since they pre-fabricate the windows at their own facility, they were all ready to remove the old windows and install the new ones when I met them at my home. In total, I only missed 1 and 1/2 hours of work. They crew that did the work was extremely polite, punctual, and professional.
Overall, we are very happy with our decision to hire A-1 Glass Block to replace our basement windows, and we would hire them again for future projects.

It went great. The guys arrived a little ahead of the estimated time, which was great. They were polite and immediately got to work. They were very efficient, removing one old window at a time, chiseling out the old mortar on the sill, then brushing it clean before placing the glass block window. They removed all the old, single-paned windows, set the new glass block windows, then started doing the mortar work. One person worked inside, the other outside. Unbeknownst to me until they were finished, they even tinted the outside mortar so it would blend more closely with the mortar between the bricks on my 83-year-old house. The house is buff brick with a rose-colored mortar which you don't notice until you are close to the house. I thought the tinted mortar they used was a soft brown shade, but once the mortar dried completely, it was a soft rose color, which looks nice with the rest of the house. They cleaned up well and left no mess in the flower beds alongside the house. All work was completed in 4 hours, so an hour faster than had been originally estimated. Super job.

The size and shape of my vent was no longer in production, so Chris pursued several avenues to find a replacement or substitute. He was able to find a replacement and I was very thankful.

I saw thier ad in the newspaper sometime in February. I had never heard of this company before, but I had also never heard of any glass block window company before either. Thier ad was for three 24x36 widnows for $599.00. Well I had four windows that needed replaced. So I called and asked how much the fourth would be to include. Chris said, the same...about 200.00 per window. So I had him visit my house and give me an official estimate. He showed up late, so I was a bit skeptical from that point on. He wasn't in any kind of uniform or clothing that represented his company. Nor did his truck have any logo or signature of the company. I have a general rule that if a company doesn't have thier name of the truck or vehicle, they are not a respectible company and not worthy of my business. However, I let him look in my basement and we discussed also having a vent installed in atleast 2 of the windows. He gave me the quote whcih was exactly what he said it would be and we discussed the particulars. He stated they ask for 20% down and the final 80% when the job was done. After some discussion later that evening with my wife, we were not real sure about whether to go forward. Again, I had never heard of this company before and given the circumstances of the events circling the estimate, I wasn't too excited to give them my money. Yet, after about 2 weeks, I decided to give em a try. I sent my 20% down payment and scheduled the serivice date. They showed up around 9:30 am and went to work. The job was finished around 1 pm and looked wonderful. They did a spectacular job and I feel it was an all around good investment. Even though I broke my rule of what I deem professional, they did exactly what we agreed to and that was good enough for me.
