"The member was a customer who very unfortunately experienced a water problem and was unhappy with how her vinyl flooring reacted to the water problem. Our company involved the Better Business Bureau for arbitration in an attempt to allow the member a full understanding of why there was no claim for replacement. The newly installed vinyl floor needed to be replaced before its life cycle. She has, sort of, explained what occurred to her vinyl flooring. She admits to the fact that there was prior evidence of water in her crawl space. That is a very important piece of information to share, and I am glad she did. If her water problem occurred as she is expressing in her report from her existing subfloor being too wet for the first install then as a result the old vinyl would’ve shown signs of mildew and mold as her new vinyl was. It is fact that areas of the old vinyl was left down due to how hard it was for her to take up. The old vinyl was adhered to the floor as it should be. Since some of the old vinyl was taken up, to create a smooth surface for the new vinyl, a floor leveler was used as she mentioned. The old vinyl was glued well and was holding strongly to the existing dry subfloor. This bit of information she provided proves that the water problem occurred between the new vinyl and the vinyl that she chose to leave down. It was noted in her file, upon visiting her home to replace a metal after the installation, there were towels at the bottom front of her refrigerator door and they were wet with condensation from the seal on her refrigerator door not sealing. She was soaking up water that had been leaking for some time. It is common sense to realize that the water was obviously under the refrigerator as well. The member does not admit to this and here lies the problem. As a company looking at flooring with coloration problems this was an important note to list in her file on our paperwork. Her coloration problems were located at the nearest wall next to her refrigerator. Her sales invoice clearly reflects the existing vinyl was to be left down. The reason she chose to keep her old vinyl floor down was because she was trying to keep her costs down. She had just moved into this home and was strapped for cash. She was informed at the time of purchase that if she experienced water problems the vinyl that she left down would become an issue. She was told in detail how the old vinyl would act as a non porous barrier and would trap water. The member was provided a price for her flooring to be installed the proper way and she was given the price without take up of the old flooring. She made a choice based upon her pocket book. She could've spent that same money the first time with our store, only installing the flooring once. She cut corners and ended up with the problem. The member was a good customer to work with and we are very sorry that her first vinyl flooring didn’t last as long as it should have. She was pleased with the installation with exception of a wrong color metal and we did not hear from her again until her water problem. I am sorry that her opinion and experience was based upon her loss. It is a very important lesson to consumers, please make decisions based upon what is correct rather than what can be afforded. Patience really can be a good thing regarding so many decisions in life."
