Nelson's Towing

Nelson is the Guatemalan tow-truck driver who saw me waiting on AAA about an hour earlier on a different call, and who looped back to get me. He called AAA, took over my claim, and handled everything from there. He "happened to know a group of El Salvadorans, great guys one and all, with a Car Wash/Tire Repair shop who stayed open til at least 10" - even the night before the 4th, he had called and checked! - and got me loaded up and there within 10 minutes. He even waited there for the shop to finish, in case I decided I wanted to tow the car rather than risk another blowout. He even had a flat-bed long-haul driver from the far west side of Chicago on standby on his cell so my car would "ride in style" if necessary! I asked him about it, since I don't like to ruin anyone's early weekend, but he said not to worry, that AAA left me there for hours, so they deserved to pay a holiday-night bonus to any solo-driver he cared to involve... and he knew several who would not hesitate to take a nice cruise to Illinois. I received an awesome used tire, because Nelson told the guys I was a fellow soccer fan - so awesome that I didn't hesitate to get safely on my way home, without any further incident. My advice to everyone: If you're ever in the greater Chicago area and need any sort of auto-related assistance at all, call Nelson's Towing. Nelson is connected to all of the Latino-owned service shops and towing companies in the entire area, in ways AAA can only guess at. They were unaware that there was a tire shop close-by where I could get immediate service! If I'd known of him before last night, I would have only lost about 45 minutes on my trip, rather than 4 and a half hours! Keep these numbers in your glove-box if you're going anywhere near Chicago... and read the previous night's soccer scores on your smart phone - you'll shock him to no end when you can tell him how the games he missed while working turned out!
